Actually it's a mixture of Op. 10 No.5 and Op. 25 No.9. One hand plays one etude, the other hand the other. Godowsky did two of these, surely must be one of the hardest things in the repertoire!
He is truly a master technician. If you hear his album "Introducing Francesco Libetta" you will hear (with much better fidelity than this more video camera was able to capture, just how amazing he is. I have seen him play and it is jaw dropping to see the level of difficult repertoire he is able to play with total ease. He never looks like he is working. I realize that some people don't like this as slam him for it. But he really is an astounding pianist.
I would have to say that it's much sadder that someone of 'supposed' intellect and ability would dare to say they made a correct decision in not becomming a pianist because of the taste of the lower-class. Seperately, this video deserves little watching in the first place, the performance is terrible considering that it's played in such a fashion the the phrases are barely distinguishable--correct notes, an incorrect performance.
dolofonos, your conclusion that I did not become a pianist because of the "taste of the lower-class" is entirely your own. What I am saying is that there are brilliant pianists out there (way better than me and probably you) who are undiscovered and unappreciated and are likely to remain so.
When I look at this video I understand why I made the right decision not to become a pianist. Pianists of Libetta's caliber are amazing. At the same time, only 904 people think the video is interesting enough to watch... A phenomenal experience to watch combined with sad and sobering facts.
Phenomenal Performance of one Very Intricate, Complex and Ultra Difficult piece only a few in the world can really play well, keeping all the inner voices clear, transparent and poetic.

I liked it but maybe a tad slower so the listener can absorb the music more easily. But very skilled no doubt!

dolofonos: way do you judge the performance, if you do not even know what you are talking about?
very bad, delofonos, very bad: keep silent if you do not have enough culture to speak.

Excellent performance of this coked-up Godowsky listening to Chopin. What kind of piano is that he's playing?
