  • i love you <3

  • Sweet little song that taught Me to accept change and move on and forget everybody who forgot Me

  • @MrPlownds26

OMG! Me too. I love this song and it hurts me at the same time.

  • Youtube hai rotto le palle con le pubblicità!!!

  • Ahhhh reminds me when I was young..never knew it was Edie Edie you're fuckable

  • The bass player kind of looks like Floyd from "The Muppet Show"!

  • many memories... Love this music ♥♥♥

  • This song captures feelings many of us get, when our common 'early youth' is gone because freinds in the circle grow older, get jobs, spouses, education or the like and leave for a more mature way of living. But TaraGothGirl and other young listeners - don't despair - life can be very good when you are grown up - soon I'll turn 53 years - my youth is gone forever - I have the memories, and a beautiful spouse, kids, a nice home - and new friends. Don't give up - neither did the song writer :-)

  • @SteenBaarts Dude I hear you and appreciate what you are saying. I'm 38 now and this song came out when I was a teen-ager. Even nowadays it makes me sit and think about things. Timeless classic.

  • I cut myself to this. :( Thank you, American Dad, for introducing me to this song.

  • I heard the J Mascis cover first... It's a lot more sad and desperate... really captures the feeling of the song for me with his minimalistic approach to performing the song... one guy one guitar, and a sad silent forfeit expression... very sincere... I still like the original too though... and I really appreciate it as a great song...

  • I remember seeing them in the 80's at Club Dada in Dallas, Texas. They have some great music! Memories!!!

  • <3

  • Does anybody remember the movie that featured this song back in the 80's? It starred Molly Ringwald and the actor who played Billy from Gremlins. They were a young teenage couple who committed suicide by asphixiation. I remember watching it in my psychology class in h.s.

  • ...music is the closest thing we have to a time machine. whatever it is or whatever it does to you, fact remains that music makes all of us powerful time travelers... it is what you make of it...much love

  • i can hardly remember when i had a circle of friends. (sigh)

  • this song + beers + feeling sorry for yourself= tears and <3 and omg just feeling all squishy

  • Does anyone else hear Randy Rhoads when they hear this song?

  • near comming to a million, slow but steady...; NICE! I like that!!! ;-)

  • I first heard this song on "American Dad" the fsh was crying as it played. LOL !

  • @farodyoung hah me too

  • Ugly Betty FTW haha

  • We are lucky to be alive to enjoy this music! Viva Edie and her musical talents! Our lives are richer for it!!

  • This song is the story of my life.

  • @lovelylittleheartt

    Sadly, me too.

  • i heard it from american dad.... poor fishy = (

  • Edie was the start of grunge I think....

  • fuck life. this song is amazing though. i wish people still made music like this.

  • wow my life before i waseven born

  • God this songs strong.

You have to feel sad sometimes to appreciate the happy times, y'know? =]

  • @kitkatkisery4592

    I agree.

  • Feeling sad and someone told me to listen to this song. This song captures my life. =(.

  • @ziljin I so agree, it capsulates real feeling in life, like when you just want a good life for yourself. And thats where Im at right now, Im sharing this on facebook

  • @romulus30000 Indeed. But I saw despair and loneliness in the lyrics.Where everyone expects so much out of your life, you just want to retreat so you don't get hurt. Maybe I am interpreting it wrong.

  • @ziljin same here :)

  • @9htsky haha sweet.

  • Life sucks

  • Being alone means no one can say good bye....

  • felt this way 23 years ago.. feeling it now too... what the fuck were the days in between about..?

Two beautiful adult sons... if that is the measure of my life then I am proud indeed...

  • @dilfcurrie

    Exactly!

  • funny how music can take you back, suddenly its 22 yrs ago and im having a lonely spliff before going into a job that bored me to tears.

  • @nickynunn you're not alone, so don't feel lonely! ;)

  • Qué voz más dulce.

  • Awe! I used to hear this song all the time on sirius radio back when the days were innocent and my problems were vacant. :(

Ya'll guys enjoy life, okay? :) Wishing happiness to all.

  • @LaurenOrder16 Funny you say that because this reminds me of being in junior high back in 88 when the album came out and it being a gr8 time for me....very wonder years. I miss those days but treasure those memories like little jewels. I missed out on seeing them live when they came to my town :(

  • thumbs up if knoptop brought you here

  • Shame this type of real real music can't be mainstream in the US and subsequently the UK, ie bands with original sogwriters and musicians. One of my favourite tracks ever.

  • 2:41 what a nice run

  • I hadn't listened to her in a couple of decades after deciding I didn't care for her music, so I thought I'd give her another shot. Unfortunately, her voice still grates on my nerves, like it did 20 years ago. I know this is personal preference, but her sound is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

  • I had this album when i was 16 in the 1988 and it made so much since then when i was only 17. looking back now it still feels the same!!!

  • @abaruger i am pushin 50 now and was around 20 then. just remembered that they were a great band

  • It's amazing how musical tastes change over the course of time. I remember my sister listening to Edie when we where in high school, way back when, and I much I hated her What I am song. I stumbled apon this song, like many others here, during the episode of Cold Case. It came into my life shortly after my best friend died in my arms. The words of this song capture the emotions I felt and still feel over his loss. Thank you Edie., being alone is not the best way to be, but it is now and then.

  • @bittertim amen to that bittertim

  • I just heard this song on cold case last night. Such a beautiful song <3

  • Me too on Cold Case, Remember the Indigo Girls too?

  • I'd forgotten this song and how fantastic it is until I heard it on Cold Case a short while ago. Glad to be reacquainted.

  • My favourite song off the album, shame theres this type of music is no longer in the UK music charts, real singers/songwriters/guitarist/bass players/piannist/drummers/ets shame!!!!

  • This song came out shortly after I was put in juvenile lock up. Really stuck with me because it had such meaning to me at that age.

  • @GreasyPizzaCheese wow. deep

  • she is Beautiful :-) and wonderful voice

  • bella bella bella bella e bella :-)

  • At 00.10 the girl with brown shoes seems like Sarah Jessica Parker LOL

  • @ashgallaaable what irony! SJP's FACE looks like a old, worn-out, brown shoe

  • a circle of friends it could be fantastic!

  • Remember listening to this in Dallas during my first year of college. God, how I under appreciated New Age influence.

  • Pour toi mon Amour, en espérant que tu retrouves vite la mémoire et que tu puisses te souvenir de tous les merveilleux moments que nous avons passés ensemble....Je t'aime très fort.

  • This is so true. When your alone no one can hurt you:)

  • i s so beautiful this song..........

    alby

  • Never heard of "American Dad".

  • so funny. i heard this shit on American dad, lolz.

  • Could I call it a folk song few years before grunge?

  • I was 14 when this came out and she was and is one of my favorite artists. The songs in this genre identified Gen X.

  • If you found this through Ugly Betty, please don't like this. Doing this as a comment was lazy on my behalf. I suck, lol.

  • @pauliesonne Sadly its shows like Ugly Betty that ruined this song for me

  • I heard this song on American Dad......it was brief, but tied into the scene with Klaas perfectly

  • je aime cette chansen

  • @yazento actually its j'aime cette chansen. The je and aime dont mix like you put it, two vowels. It J' (Vowel) or Je(Consenent)

  • La bella canzionne, io la aime con tutto il mio cuore

  • i'll never quit and i'll never give up

  • But, I quit. I give up.

Nothing's good enough for anybody else

    It seems...

  • Best song ever. So truthful yet fun

  • i didn't realize it was a cover.. the only version i've heard was sugarland's.. but i love this one...

  • you dont have to be a fan of Edie to recognize this as a great song.

  • I heard this song on Cold Case, I loved the episode and the song, <3

  • @westmambo lol I just saw the cold case episode two minutes ago and was just researching this song. cool song and one of the best cold case episodes ever as well. There are a alot of great cold case episodes but i love how they use music from the time period of the episode.

  • @westmambo

  • Truly brings back memories. Their music/band was way before their time and truly set a path for the 90's era of Alternative music.

  • what a brillaint song. brings back memories of my early days. chuffin nora, where have all the years gone???

  • RN, work with dying cancer patients, reminds me of how the patients have to maintain themselves for those coming to see them.. “when I’m by myself nobody else can say goodbye”..”everything is temporary anyway”..”the colors slip into the sky”…

  • she was so cute :)

  • Honestly this song reminds me of back when I lived in Michigan and the weather was mellow. Thank you so so so much for uploading. Nothing is good enough for anybody. I give up.

  • ~Wow, please tell me I'm not the only one here who started loving this song back in the old days when it was popular instead of from Cold Case....lol....There goes my illusion of youth for the day.

~This is a great song, but my first love was 'What I Am'. I actually think I love them both equally....they're just very different from eachother.~ :)

  • When Im by myself its the best way to be...........nobody else can say goodbye

  • @earthsnow24

No they just have another taste of music, that's all! Oh how I hate such stupid comments...

  • @23aztek ok, but anyone who has feelings or smokes weed should appreciate all songs

  • @earthsnow24

No. Not all songs are blessed with a good quality. But besides that, it has nothing to do with the liking or dislike. -> Therefor we have those buttons. ;-)

  • this was one of the beter songs of 88 I think

  • Wow, what a good one to play when you feel like throwing in the towel ... at least for a while ... great vocals, melody ... didn't care much for the ending, though.

  • Cold case.... Thanx for airing this wonderful song

  • lovely tune heart warming. used to listen to this in 1988 in Galway and 200 miles out in the atlantic when fishing, something about Edie Brickells music that makes my heart feel worth it all.

  • This was so sad on cold case.

  • I don't know why this won't let me post the link, but search "Pill" from Edie Brickell if you wanna hear something newer from her (if you haven't already done so). I love this song ("Circle"), and "Pill" is pretty tasty, too.

  • llevo años buscando esta canción desde una novela fuera de control en chile.. ni idea de quien era me encanta

  • WHere the heck did they go after all this success??? It was obviously a split from show biz on their part, because they were too good to disapear!!! Come back! Come back!

  • I first heard this song on "Cold Case" a while ago and have enjoyed this song ever since :-)

Thumbs up if "Cold Case" introduced you to "Circle"

  • she is really pretty, but she is rockin some Mom Jeans

  • Perfect song to share on Google+

  • If I recall correctly, Paul Simon took her off the market and basically ended her career. A fucking shame of the highest order. What a sweet sweet talent she was...

  • I heard this song on Cold Case the first time, some years ago... It's terrific

  • american dad brought me here

  • I have been hearing this song since I was a kid and I didn't know who sang it and what the title is. I heard this about two weeks ago in American Dad I think. or was it Family Guy? i was not sure... but great song, reminds me a lot of the times when was still young.

  • I would like to know who wrote this song. If Edie wrote it, she is a genius, a fantastic singer, and an original artist of style and technique.

  • also heard it tonight on cold case in the netherlands... wonderful song

  • you'll notice no one has a laptop in this cafe... good ol days

  • @ScrewAttackChina For sure, people actually had conversations with one another. Our society is so disconnected today.

  • @ScrewAttackChina

No one had a mobile phone back then, let alone a laptop!

This was THE song of my Christmas with the student nurses. We'd roar it drunkenly to eachother, great pals, going out on the pull. We did get the irony. I think.

  • I heard this song... At Youtube while browsing Edie Brickell SOngs x) (What I am)

  • I quit, I give up nothings good enough for anybody else...it seems. True that hmmm?

  • @ktrulz0013 that's where I heard it and fel in love with it;-)
