Does Penn make this reel in left handed model? If not what 30 lb class or less conventional does Penn make in left handed? I also posted on Marks video.
@yurckk You would just need to take off the side plates and flip the harness lugs up or down. If they are down they will be flush (the Fathom ships this way in the box).
@jelipeavila We will have a left handed model available in September of 2012. We are starting to bring a few left hand modles to some families. The Squall Lever Drag currently has two left handed models.
well.... i'll wait for lefty fathom levelwind to come in september. FYI i'm a right handed person who r comfortable with lefty cranking reel-keep holding a rod (observed that George and many others on the video tend to switch hand during fishing...why?) with my right hand while my left hand do a cranking process...does it make sense to u? :)
I am going to be targeting the bigger fish on the pier and on the shore. Fish such as sharks, big blues, kings, and rays. I fish mostly in North and South Carolina. I use mostly live bait. If you don't think this reel is the best choice what reel do you think would better suit me?
@jonathanRtorre If you are using braided line you will probably want to use a smaller size Squall Star Drag 15 ($149.95) or Fathom 15 or 25N($199.95-$219.95). If you plan to use mono line, you'll most likely need more capacity in a 30 size in the Fathom family.
Thank you, I'm fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, not really targeting any species I mostly fish off a pier. But I'm a beginner at casting conventional reels so I need some thing that would be easy to cast. Thank you
@jonathanRtorre Yes you can cast the reel, but if you are looking for a reel specifically for casting you might want to check out the Fathom Star Drag. It has an open top design and live spindle for a free floating spool. Also, many anglers like the Squall Star Drag series as well with its externally adjustable magnetic brake. If you want to let us know what species you are targeting, where and any technique you tend to use, we would be happy to recommend a model for you.

I am fishing from the pier and surf. Would you recommend the 25 or 40 size?

@willpeters17 Thanks for the question. What fish are you targeting and in what location? It will help us provide a better recommendation.
