  • OMG she looks AMAZING for being 80! I hope a movie gets made about her life....and Halle Berry should play her.

  • OH MY! You are beautiful Lena and today is my Father's Birthday, November 30, 2011 and he would have been 95 years old! All he spoke of while I growing up in New York was you. We listened to you all the time. My Mother was a Singer too, but my Father was still so in Love with you Lena. Leads me to believe you both met somewhere? He was a Fighter Pilot in the Pacific Theatre and John Waynes Stuntman in "The Flying Leathernecks"! Rosie? What a WONDERFUL INTERVIEW!

  • I picture Halle Berry looking like this if she lives to be 80! Timeless beauty right here-

  • @44joints and Beyonce and alicia keys!!!

  • I hope I live to be 80 and be as lively, lovely, and witty as Lena was on this show. Thanks for sharing.

  • Yeah, she is sexy and i'm not talking about rosie O" Donald.

  • @RennyGd ,,,lol!!

  • Oh god she is soooo sexy,

  • BACK IN THOSE DAYS WHITE MEN LOVE BLACK WOMEN THAT LOOK ALMOST DAMM NEAR WHITE

  • @sexytrannienj WTF are you talking about?

  • @lenahorneclub

wtf you dont understand if you were high light skin black in those days yes white men loved high lightsskin black women

i was makn a comment because she can pas for white if you didnt know she was black you understand now ahole

  • @sexytrannienj returning to the scene of the crime, was what they were doing back then...lol j/k

  • Lena Horne looked great for 80 and had a lot of sass and personality for 80. She definitely was a natural beauty, never had any plastic surgery, and looked great for 80. I guess its true what they say black don't crack. She don't look like some of these older stars now all nipped and tucked and it makes them look worse. Lena may not look 20, but she still looks good.

  • she looked really good for someone in her 80's. i mean she looks like she's in her 50's. i dont see one wrinkle on her pretty little face!:)

  • Okay nice one thanks for that her accent sounds like Atlanta

  • She is southern

  • @jnmklo9 No, she's from NYC. She lived in the south for some of her childhood on and off, but she's a New Yorker.

  • why is she talking in a southern accent?? she is not southern

  • Yes. At first I thought was just me. Alicia keys looks like Ms. Lena horne.

  • This is how pop culture should be. A woman who has great acumen as a jazz singer from the Swing Era who sang Fats Waller tunes and other jazz standards talking about show business on the Rosie O'Donnell show. My goodness.

  • i would really love to do a movie on this gorgeous, dignified, and gracious lady

  • Lena Horne the real deal !!!

  • OMG! - THE most beautiful octegenerian I have ever seen!

  • I am amazed at the humility she displayed, and how she beams like a school girl even at her age. Wow. A diva minus the diva 'tude'

  • Just had a look at images on Google and you are right, Alicia would be great to play her. Would never have thought about it, but wouldn't it be good!!

  • Wow, she was always so pretty, even at 80!

  • with age

  • What a classy woman

  • 88Habitrabbit1 - I agree with you. Alicia Keys would be the perfect actress to portray Lena Horne. She's beautiful inside and out; she's a strong black woman who believes in justice and equality; she can sing - She'd be great! I've also thought about Mo'Nique portraying Mahalia Jackson. I think she be great at this as well!

  • RIP....Very few people earn the status of "legend". Nowadays there are no Lena's,Sammy Davis jr's,Sinatra's,Dorothy Dandridges, etc. Black, white or other almost everyone comes off the assembly line. And very few are genuine. In Ms.Horne's day there was no "autotune",just TALENT.

  • L.H. looks young and beautiful on here.

  • Lena was always beautiful and talented. A very classy lady indeed. At 92, she was still beautiful. RIP Lena Horne.

  • What a great woman and such a inspiration.

    Class act all the way.

  • tgun..person is not black. why would u waste your time on young or foreign identities.

  • I agree Alicia Keys is the image of Lena Horne its spooky What a wonderful lady she was xx

  • lol i was thinking that oo. she had such a heavy southern accent and drawl but grew up and lived in the north its kind of funny, cus im fr NC but sound like i have a New York accent

  • @leplaq She was sent to live in the south when she five until she was a teen.

  • @jga665 oh so she grew up mostly in the south?

  • What a beautiful woman. I'm glad she kept her natural grey...she looked great. RIP. Such an inspiration.

  • Is it just me or would Alicia Keys be "the One " to portray Ms Lena should O.W.N. decide to shoot a film biography. Hint, hint! Their resemblance is uncanny and supernatural. Somebody Please take advantage of this opportunity! E-mail me! I loved to play a part in any project!

  • @88Habitrabbit1 I agree but I just HOPE they use Lena's vocals instead of Keys' vocals.

  • @lenahorneclub what is wrong with keys's voice? other then the fact that she sounds nothing like lena horne when she sings...

  • @88Habitrabbit1 Press from 2008: "Alicia Keyes taking Janet Jackson's place in an Oprah-produced Lena Horne biopic". It seems to have never been made..

  • @88Habitrabbit1 No, It's not just you. When she died, i thought to myself about how would it look if Alicia played Lena Horne should a autobiography be in the works.

  • @88Habitrabbit1 I was going to mention that. The resemblance between Lena and Alicia Keys is very close. Either it's supernatural or they're related somehow. She would be the one.

  • @88Habitrabbit1 Unfortunately, she looks nothing like Lena... she is pretty, but she ain't Lena....

  • @88Habitrabbit1 i think i was looking at some site where they said she was going to portray her. i hope it was true:)

  • How beautiful - any rank, any age....have a good time up above, dear Miss Horne!

  • A very classy lady with a beautiful voice

That she mentioned Ella Fitzgerald is a testament to her own greatness and humility.

  • what a woman!

  • I've always loved her voice and dialect. It's so real.

  • @Codycole80 No, it's fake. Lena would change dialects depending on where she was and who she was with. She's a linguist, she's GOOD!

  • @lenahorneclub - No that the black urban bi-cultural experience. You hear the same in Chicago where Mom's insist on proper English at the dinner table and in the house, you speak slang with your friends and you learn the southern accent when you summer down south.

  • @MsKelleys Everybody does that. Lena was an actress and acted all her life -- she gave the public what they expected. SHE has written about this - read it.

  • @lenahorneclub - True of every black person of that era who had to operate successfully in two cultures. A mainstream public persona and a home persona plus Urban life and country summers - survival meant being who you were supposed to be in a given environment. Sociologists call it being bi-cultural and Lena called it acting -- a rose by any other name ...

  • @MsKelleys I'like ..so very beautiful voice and nice singles for me always the time ,one love Lena parisina guirl one best kiss for Lena from Paris ,<3<

  • i just cried while watching this clip.

  • thank God lena got to live to see a black president!

  • i pray i look as good as her if God allows me to live that long she is beautiful

  • Timeless talent, beauty and character, (integrity, leadership, bravery) -- "true grit"!

She'll shine in the Pantheon of humanity 4ever.

  • What a sweet thing she is here.

This may seem superficial but I don't mean it to be. Why is it that when women get older they start to dress old? What Lena shows us here is that it possible to be both attractively attired and age appropriate without appearing dowdy. In fact, I think her sense of style here...from the simply neat hairdo, to the artsy eyeglasses and Asian inspired jacket.....is worth emulating at any age.

  • Lena Horne was a beautiful woman, a wonderful singer, and a strong woman in the civil rights movement. They said that many times she would be performing somewhere in the early days, and was a star, yet had to use the back entrance. How disgusting. I come from a multi-racial family, & can't even imagine it. May God rest her soul.

  • My heart has missed her on tv for the last few years, but I remember her through to the 80;s, Oh Miss Lena, I'll always remember you and miss you. May you RIP.

  • R.I.P miss horne, thank you for helping change the world xxx

  • I loved her. Such an inspirational, beutiful, pure voice. God bless her.

  • Wow. 79 then Dammmmnnnn. You go Girl. RIP!

  • Look at her at EIGHTY! Gorgeous! She never in fact lost her looks, her voice or her talent. She did near the end decide not to perform or record any more but she was still in demand. She was shiningly smart, admirably feisty and very courageous.

  • I'm in my sixties and feared getting older until I looked at this great woman. If she can do it, so can I.

  • Black or white she was the best !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who cares

  • This is priceless! Thank you to everyone who has ever posted anything regarding this wonderful women. She is in Heaven now and this world will miss her greatly. May she rest in peace til we meet again.

  • R.I.P. Ms. Horne

  • ...And to think, this was 12 years ago!!!

  • TGUNZ562...you don't know what the hell you are talking about! Get some knowledge before you speak on what Ms Horne went through as a Black

    performer during that period!

  • She was so lively upon her 80th birthday and she was grand all the way to the end.

  • What a lovely interview. Rosie knows how to show respect to a great star.

  • Ohhhhhhhhh my goodness, what sweet, humble, darling lady! We will miss you sooooo much Ms. Horne. Rest is peace, darlin'....see you on the otherside.

  • Miss Horne went through hell back in her day!! She purchased a house in California back in the day and they protested to get her out of the community becausse she was BLACK!! AMAZING!! RIP MISS HORNE, we stand on the shoulders of GIANTS!

  • @UrLvr4Lf And the only person to come to her defense was Humphry Bogard who refused to sign the petitiion to get her out of the neighborhood. Bless him! Lena was a classy, beautiful lady. She's paved the way for so many in Hollywood even though she hated it there, at least that's what she said in her biography. God Bless her! She left her stamp on the world!

  • @sdwalm She often said that the only black people around were the cleaning people and they became her friends while on the Hollywood movie lots. Very lonely. And when she vowed that she would leave Hollywood, the great Count Basie urged her to go back. He told her that she had to be the one to stick it out and to take advantage of her opportunity because she WAS the first black actress that didn't have to put on an apron or a handkerchief on her head in order to be in a movie.

  • @UrLvr4Lf I know Lena went through a lot of hell, and she was a lighter-toned black woman, who could pass, and she still went through hell cause she had a drop of black blood in her.

  • RIP~Lena stil going strong...94 yrs young~

    Thanks for the Love~(after 50)!

If you watch the vid of her on the Rosie O'donell show youll know what I am talking about! Lena passed yesterdAY ON mOTHERS DAY~

    94 years young!!!!!

  • @kreed1

    i think she was 92

  • but her birthday isn't June 23, it is June 30th.

  • RiP

  • MY GOODNESS!!! Lena was still drop dead good-looking at 80! WOW!!!

  • What a lady...sorely missed already...

  • She was ageless in so many ways...R. I. P. Lena.

  • 80 years in this clip and not a wrinkle on her! The most beautiful woman in the world. R.I.P. Ms. Lena

  • All these so called divas need to study this video....more talent, poise, beauty, grace and star quality in this 80 year old woman than any of today's "Divas".

  • She was a Goddess. May she rest in peace. We love you Ms. Horne!

  • You were beyond beautiful. You opened doors. You had Grace. You were utterly beautiful. You were beyond words. The world is oh so empty without you. May God please bless and adore your beautiful soul.

  • So humble, it's amazing.

Now a days u get a stinking rapper/singing with one #1 hit and they think they the best thing.

    This lady has 40 albums.

    amazing.

  • So Beautiful, Rest In Peace

  • There would never be another Lena Horne.

  • this is what a singer is. pure grace and a real woman RIP the 1st voice of music

  • Rest in peace. Beautiful spirit on display.

  • R.I.P Lena Horne! You will be surely missed!

  • Thanks For Posting. RIP Lady Lena.

  • she is still beautiful, rest in peace queen of beauty

  • RIP Lena Horne, Has Died @ Age 92 :(.... Ur Legacy Will Forever Live On

  • She was blacklisted from show biz for a long time as a result of the McCarthy Communist witchhunt....makes one wonder if they need one TODAY ..

  • RIP Auntie Horne. We will always remember you.

  • omg did she die? when and how? :O..

  • rest in peace ms Horne

  • RIP Lena Horne

  • Ms. Horne was so lively even at such an old YET wise age...

I miss Rosie's show so much....She said what she wanted, WHEN SHE WANTED!

I now appreciate Rosie's shows more because of this clip...

    RIP Lena..

  • She had "class act" coming out of every pore on her body. God bless!

  • Is it me or Did GOD stop blessing people with beauty, talent, class and grace dacades ago???, cause what we have today is shameful. R.I.P Ms.Horne...Bravo and thank you.

  • @kayolekenya No. God didn't stop the blessing. The industry is in the way.

  • @musikenergy That's one point, but artists today are not as gifted as the pioneers. They lack not only talent; but the presence, style, elegance and humility that made singers like the late great Lena Horne, one of the best talents of all time. To put it simply, they just dont have it. There is no doubt that the music industry is shady, but that has always been the case, definitely even more in the past than today.

  • @kayolekenya The artists do exist. They don't get the attention from the mainstream. Many won't buy tickets on Broadway or the Met, but will support sloppy music. I work with countless talented people all over who have just as much class but won't do trivial music to get attention. Also in her era, people were fans of classical and jazz music, which required you to have talent. Now, they have machines that focus on a nice beat and sell image. Don't like what you see, support the fine arts more.

  • @musikenergy There is no doubt that I only listen to good music (substance, creativity, and sonically great) obviously the music industry machine promotes more garbage than real music, and there is a few good ones today who do not get the shine they deserve; obviously you know some of them, but there is just no comparison. I guess I'm stuck with the old days when it comes to music:)

  • @kayolekenya Nope, Lena Horne ain't never got kicked out of shit. Now, as far as the general population, of course they were discrimenated against. But, Lena Horne? Joe Louis' wife? Yup, she was never kicked out of a club in her life.

  • @TGUNZ562 Who do you think that Lena Horne is?? Joe Louis's wife???

  • @musikenergy Lena Horne and countless others built their careers through an extremely difficult era; they were victimized by exploitative and segregating ways of the entertainment industry. Today, Beyonce does not have to worry about being kicked out of a club because she is black.

  • @TGUNZ562 your a liar and or an idiot or both

  • @TGUNZ562 I wont engage in any sort of intellectual debate with you because obviously its a lost cause, as you are helpless. If you know anything about your own history, you would be aware that segregation meant that black people were not allowed to be in certain public places. As for artists, they could not perform to certain club/bars/arenas, as it was strictly reserved for whites.

  • @TGUNZ562 If you know anything about Lena Horne, you would know that in the 30-40-50s, she performed in prestigious nightclubs and hotels, but at some, she could not stay because of her skin colour. This is what she said in interviews, and those are facts about American history.

  • @TGUNZ562 Things obviously have changed for the better and as I said, today's artists don't have to experience such treatment, thanks to great activists like Lena Horne. So dude, or whatever you are, check yourself before YOU TALK OUT OF YOUR ASS

  • Too bad it couldn't have been Rosie instead of Lena.

  • R.I.P. Ms. Horne!!!!

  • Rest in Peace to Miss Horne. :)

  • Rip, a wonderful lady!!!!!

  • what a beautiful lady...wow. 93 yrs of life!!! Rest in peace Lena!!

  • she died today! *cries*

  • 5-10-10 Rest in peace Lena!

  • she past away

  • Oh, I'm soooo sad!

  • RIP Lovely Lena Horne

  • RIP great interview!

  • RIP Lena, you were so beautiful to the very end. Rest assure that that heaven is color blind.

  • rest in heaven ms lena horne

  • Beautiful R.I.P

  • RIP

  • @melikemusicalot She is still alive!

  • @Lisha0691 sorry to burst ur bubble but she died last night. RIP lena.

  • Looking back at the age of 80, Ms. Horne said: My identity is very clear to me now. I am a black woman. Im free. I no longer have to be a credit. I dont have to be a symbol to anybody; I dont have to be a first to anybody. I dont have to be an imitation of a white woman that Hollywood sort of hoped Id become. Im me, and Im like nobody else. R.I.P GREAT ONE

  • RIP Lena

  • at 80 she still looked beautiful, RIP Lena Horne

  • RIP LENA HORNE

  • Rest in peace, Lena. We were graced with your presence for 92 years, and we will miss you. Sheer legend!

  • RIP. We will miss you.

  • R.I.P. Lena!

  • rest in peace Lena Horne Died on sunday in New York

  • Rest in Peace Lena...Finally ...

  • @HighMaintenance2099 ahahahhahaha

  • This is so off the wall but the more I listen to this beautiful woman the more she starts sounding like...the fruitcake lady - remember her? I can just hear FC Lady all in this video! RIP Lena. How beautiful she was at 80.

  • RIP!!

  • R.I.P. Miss Lena Horne! She was such a lovely lady

  • holy shit. she cant be 80

  • Lena Horne gave me an autographed picture. Her energy is on me and is teaching me how to sing. I am being produced for a show in Santa Barbara, California. Humbly, Tyler Lord Hamilton

  • Rosie's a fat, disgusting pig.

  • Love Love Love Lena!!!

  • The book is good! Reading it I understand it is the Authors point of view! There are highs and lows in it, but I feel Gavin was obviously coming from a place of admiration! Lena is and was human and made choices and mistakes like all of us! It's just easier for us to disect her because she is a beloved "goddess". I LOVE Lena and all she is and was! Look at her, she is still gorgeous and unique! Lena is Supreme !

  • Just read the new biography of Miss Horne by James Gavin, (called -- what else:) -- "Stormy Weather"), and I highly recommend it. Provides much insight into her emotional and intellectual development, as well as her career, of course. It is, however, a sad read from time to time; this lady has suffered a lot. But she has an indomitable spirit, which shines through. God bless her.

  • The book is a hatchet job - don't read it. Gavin lets others define Lena without any filter or interpretation on his part. He's very lazy, just gluing the pieces together. I'm surprised Lena hasn't sued his sorry ass. I wish she would speak out if nothing else.

  • what a great great woman

  • Beautiful, Talented, Gracious Lady

  • Absolutely flawless

  • I almost cried when Rosie said she wished she could give her all the chocolate in the world.

  • @inmyprime Thats is so weird because I swear my eyes welled up too!

Lena seemed to be so genuinely thankful for the love that Rosie was giving her, very touching, What are we going to do without our Lena when she leaves us? I dread thinking about it.

  • She is such a graceful and gentle soft spoken ambivalent individual who has seen a lot and done a lot over the years. She is a classic who has opened so many doors

  • Ms. Horne is the definition of class, beauty, grace, humility, and sophistication. A lot of the so called celebs today could afford to take a few pages from her book.

  • Lena Horne always had it. Unbelievable at 80.

  • I just have known about her so dont blame me butt.. does she still live ??

  • ComoLaFlorr--Yes,she is still alive, but does no longer make public appearances.

  • thank you :)

  • yes she is still alive but unfortunately suffers from Alzheimer's. She is 92 yrs old.

  • thank you for the info:)

  • NO, she does not have Alzheimers! She's 92 and retired. Give her a break! She is not ambulatory (doesn't walk well) and she has trouble with her eyesight like anyone her age. That's it.

  • @lenahorneclub Amen

  • @ delov1, how did you know that she had that?

  • He's making it up!

  • Comment removed

  • Pick up a copy of the book by James Gavin - a bio about Lena that came out in 2009.

  • I will thank you for telling me
