I don't like alot of stuff, but the F40 transcends individual opinion. It is the greatest car ever made and if you don't think this, It's simply because you don't have a wide enough breadth of knowledge.
As soon as the F50 came out, I knew the F40 would be the greatest car of all time.
I believe Ferrari made it impossible for the magazines to get an F50 for testing, because the F40 was initially faster. -Correct me if I am wrong.
The narrator was wrong at :25 . the last car enzo ever worked on was the f40 competizione, or the racing version of the f40 he ended the project a mere 2 months before his death.
@TheDonOfZagreb uh... it is the first complete production car to reach 200, but the first production ready/working concept car to beat 200 was the corjette if I remember correctly. It hit 201, with only 4 gears. the workers imagined what it would have acheived with more than 4 gears.
If those LM or GTE car did have those HP output (750-900) and were that light (at least 400 pounds lighter) then they would beat out nearly every super car of today besides the Last version of the Veryon which has 1200 HP and was trimmed down. That is a testimony to what those engineers of the 80's at Ferrari were capable of. Wish we had their vision in todays world of all electrical nonsense and no soul.

The veyron has two V8's and four turbochargers. These turbos are small and run very low boost. The cars you lot are talking about have all been modified and are not standard. The car weighs soo much but look at the figures it achieves!! I think that's enough to appriciate. Love the f40 though.

Your missing the point. Any manufacturer can make a car like the Veyron, as it takes no skill. Proved by the fact VW have done it. They have no experience of high tuned precision engines, or precision handling - so they 'cheat' and go for the biggest engine they can think of to make it fast, and make the car heavy so it sticks to the road and gets the power down. Its just the lame way of doing it.
i think maybe it`s tuned up close to the chassis maximum supported horsepower and torque..which is somewhere in the 700 hp range..while the street production car comes at 478 for the buyers safety;))what a fantastic car,the best:)
Guys - the best car - it depends of what do you need it for - for going to your job and back or maybe shopping too, or racings, or off-road - all depends - van, or sporthatch or GMC - all depends
This is a great car, and a very raw car. You can compare cars all you want, but this is a car that the driver is driving the car, vs. the computers. That adds to the beauty of the F40.

But, they are completely different cars, veyron is a benchmark in technology and refinement...yet it's quite heavy, not really a racer per say, yes fast and handles quite well just not made for actual racing...F40 on the other hand is a bare bones racer...no carpet no refinement(except that beautiful suspension setup), just seems like a blast to drive.
The point of that engine is to have a huge amount of torque at very low revs, also not to have turbo lag at all, in order to move a 1.9T car without effort at 400Kph...if you want a car with a lot of hp per liter, try a S2000 or a M3 Nowack.....
There are 8L twin turbo V8's making twice that power and torque. And maybe if they designed the car properly and not so damn heavy they wouldnt need 1000bhp.
If they want a big ass engine with alot of torque, they might as well stuck a massive Cummins Diesel engine in. The point of a supercar is to be extreme, a pinacle in engineering. Not the premise that 'ooh we need lots of power - lets just stick in the biggest ass engine we can design' - That is not engineering, that is the EASY way to a solution.
I think you don't understand at all the whole thing....Bugatti know to build supercar, search for EB110, EB112....but for the Veyron, they wanted to build the quickest and luxurious GT car on Earth, able to go to 400kph easily, driven by anybody, and they did it, the whole car has a warranty, not as many others....Ih has no rivals at all in its category, if you can't understand this, you understand nothing about automotive industry.
It has no rivals because no one would ever do such a thing. You're right, it is not a supercar, it is a GT car, but we could quite easily tweak a Bentley up to the same HP and have basically the same thing. A high power GT cruiser.
The Veyron is the equiv of 4 2.0 turbo engines strapped together and makes 1000bhp. If we did the same with the S2000 design, we'd make 940bhp with no Turbos...
See my point, the Veyron engine is a very unsophisticated engine.
And no torque below 5000rpm....have you ever driven a S2000?? We can also take a 1980 Formula1 1.5L Turbo engine and have 1500hp....that's not the point! The Veyron is an absolute GT, at every rev, every speed, and it is more sophisticated than your ideas....
Sophisticated? Last time I looked, having a massive engine that doesnt rev that high is what big block V8's do well.
But they make the same power without turbo's.
So once again, what is so advanced about the Veyron Engine?. As a modern engine, it is inefficient, and its still innefficient compared to 2V per cylinder big block V8's running on carbs.
And what do you mean no torque? If you had 4 strapped together, it would make 660lb/ft with no boost. If you used the equivalent of 4 mildly boosted S2000 engines it would make 1400bhp and over 1100lb/ft.
We can take the Veyron, remove the engine, and put a better more powerful, more torque making engine in. There are daily driver V8's twin turbos' that make over 1700bhp on pump gas, and 1400lb'ft torque.

The Bugatti Veyron is Dog Ugly! The only reason people rate that car, is because it is so fast. Most of the ancient Bugatti's are far better looking cars than the Veyron will ever be.
If I sold the number plates off my current car, I could by an F40 and would still have change. To purchase the Bug, I might have to sell a few houses off, so may have to wait for current housing market conditions to improve, but even then the bug IS NOT A CAR I WOULD WANT. I would sooner spend that sort of money on a yaught.

As to 1001BHP, You could build your own car with that amount of power that would destroy the Veyron.The fastest road legal here car here in the UK, was built by a guy in his garage & it will do just that. or buy a full blown MG X-Power SV or SV-R etc, for the power, or buy a Caterham RS500 for speed&handling, Either of them would probably kill you though, so you may as well still with your nasty looking Veyron. Now if it looked like a Lamborghini Countach, that would be a whole different matter.
You only have to look at it to work that one out. It also had the best person behind a car company, Mr Enzo Ferrari himself. The car was designed as the ultimate road going car, and he succeded. & its driven by a 2.9 litre engine, an engine far smaller than those in most of the other supercars at the time. If you can't see how good the F40 really is, you never will. But then why would you be looking at F40 videos on here in the first place, now, that does seem odd.
It's a better car because the veyron is a very bad one. They had top speed in mind when they built they veyron. The only problem with that is the only place you can reach its top speed is the VW test track which you would not be allowed in. If you want it for any other performance figures there are cars which are better. Oops! I forgot the SSC ultimate aero has a higher top speed and a few hundred more ponies. So i guess the veyron fail in that category also.
to be fair though the car is only aimed at collectors and the super rich. also it was only built as sort of a advertisement for VW they lose millions of dollars on each car

anyways simple fact of the matter is just because a veyron has a higher top speed does not mean its a better vehicle its about acceleration, cornering, balance, precision, style, sound, good, looks and yes power.

Well then I guess it's a matter of opinion of which is "the best" car. I can say my Honda Civic Si is the best car in the world because I can probably outrun a Veyron navigating tight city streets. Looks are subjective - I can say a Scion xB (which looks like poo) looks better than an Enzo and therefore, it is a better car than the Enzo.
It all depends on how you look at it. I think the Veyron is the best car because it was the most powerful production vehicle last time I checked.
Well the F40 LM has 600bhp per ton and the Veyron has 500 odd per ton. The F40 does 0-60 in the same time as the Veyron, and only has 2wd, manual box and no traction or launch control, yet the Veyron needs all that to match it The F40LM makes 260bhp per litre, with only 2 turbos and 8 cylinders, the Veyron makes only 125bhp per litres, and needs 16 cylinders and 4 turbos...
Anymore reasons why the F40 is superior , there are lots more....

So this F40 prtotype has got some different things then a ordinary "factory-manufactured" F40.

top gear reviewed it and jeremy clarkson said a normal F40 can do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. so i believe what he says. so this tweaked prototype could probably do much much faster
@veilsidefun Stock F40 0-60..3.8 sec (478 hp) depending on driver..best ive seen was 3.6. The Ferrari F40 Lm was 3.2 sec. or less but it had 720 to 750 hp! and it weighed less than the factory one.

Ferrari also built five 288 GTO Evoluzione models with more aggressive and aerodynamic body styling and increased power. The engine in the Evoluzione originally put out as much as 650 hp; however, this was dialed down to 450 hp after Group B was banned as a whole in 1986.
All I stated was the is the prototype F40..and the following.
The Ferrari GTO was built to compete in the new Group B Race series and a minimum of 200 cars were required for homologation. However as only Ferrari and Porsche, with their 959, entered, the series was soon abandoned leaving just the Group B Rally championship. The Porsche 959 (as the Porsche 961) only raced three times in Group B, but the 288 GTO never raced and all 272 cars built remained purely road cars.
Check your Ferrari history dude. The GTO Evoluzione was a design stage for the final F40. They made 5 of these special cars to add to the already rally prep group B 288 GTOs (they were meant to rally, not race). However since group B was banned in 86, these cars never got the chance to enter the sport.
This is Enzo's personal car and it was given to some rich family friend of Enzo's. This car is literally irreplaceable. I can tell you $5 million will Not buy it.

To be honest, the Veyron is backwards in technology. 1000bhp from 8 litres, 16 cyls and 4 turbos is in no way an acheivment.
When you consider, that is simply the equivalent of 4 x 2.0 Turbo 4 cyl engines strapped together, making 250bhp each.
No need for special turbos, head design, cam profiles, manifold design to make 250bhp from 2 litres.

The Bugatti Veyron is Dog Ugly! The only reason people rate that car, is because it is so fast. Most of the ancient Bugatti's are far better looking cars than the Veyron will ever be.

If I sold the number plates off my current car, I could by an F40 and would still have change. To purchase the Bug, I might have to sell a few houses off, so may have to wait for current housing market conditions to improve, but even then the bug IS NOT A CAR I WOULD WANT. I would sooner spend that sort of money on a yaught.

You were talking about the Bugatti Veyron being a better car, which it is not. It has been made 20 years later than the F40. So of couse it will have more power. You then brought price into the equation, not me. Saying I shouldn't criticize a car I can't afford to buy, which If I sold all I own, yes I could.

As to 1001BHP, You could build your own car with that amount of power that would destroy the Veyron.The fastest road legal here car here in the UK, was built by a guy in his garage & it will do just that. or buy a full blown MG X-Power SV or SV-R etc, for the power, or buy a Caterham RS500 for speed&handling, Either of them would probably kill you though, so you may as well still with your nasty looking Veyron. Now if it looked like a Lamborghini Countach, that would be a whole different matter.

You only have to look at it to work that one out. It also had the best person behind a car company, Mr Enzo Ferrari himself. The car was designed as the ultimate road going car, and he succeded. & its driven by a 2.9 litre engine, an engine far smaller than those in most of the other supercars at the time. If you can't see how good the F40 really is, you never will. But then why would you be looking at F40 videos on here in the first place, now, that does seem odd.

It's a better car because the veyron is a very bad one. They had top speed in mind when they built they veyron. The only problem with that is the only place you can reach its top speed is the VW test track which you would not be allowed in. If you want it for any other performance figures there are cars which are better. Oops! I forgot the SSC ultimate aero has a higher top speed and a few hundred more ponies. So i guess the veyron fail in that category also.

to be fair though the car is only aimed at collectors and the super rich. also it was only built as sort of a advertisement for VW they lose millions of dollars on each car

anyways simple fact of the matter is just because a veyron has a higher top speed does not mean its a better vehicle its about acceleration, cornering, balance, precision, style, sound, good, looks and yes power.
the veyron IS a fantastic car but that does not mean that there aren't better cars out there

Well then I guess it's a matter of opinion of which is "the best" car. I can say my Honda Civic Si is the best car in the world because I can probably outrun a Veyron navigating tight city streets. Looks are subjective - I can say a Scion xB (which looks like poo) looks better than an Enzo and therefore, it is a better car than the Enzo.
It all depends on how you look at it. I think the Veyron is the best car because it was the most powerful production vehicle last time I checked.

Well the F40 LM has 600bhp per ton and the Veyron has 500 odd per ton. The F40 does 0-60 in the same time as the Veyron, and only has 2wd, manual box and no traction or launch control, yet the Veyron needs all that to match it The F40LM makes 260bhp per litre, with only 2 turbos and 8 cylinders, the Veyron makes only 125bhp per litres, and needs 16 cylinders and 4 turbos...
Anymore reasons why the F40 is superior , there are lots more....

Apples to oranges, They are 2 completely different kinds of cars, yes both go fast but veyron is just filled with heavy metals for those luxury geeks and a gigantic engine that probably weight as much as a small car. So i don't know what you are trying to prove.

A prototype is the first example of a car-model.
you use it to discover small errors and correct them, adjust it right.
So this F40 prtotype has got some different things then a ordinary "factory-manufactured" F40.
A prototype is often used as part of the product design process to allow engineers and designers the ability to explore design alternatives, test theories and confirm performance prior to starting production of a new product.

top gear reviewed it and jeremy clarkson said a normal F40 can do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. so i believe what he says. so this tweaked prototype could probably do much much faster

@veilsidefun Stock F40 0-60..3.8 sec (478 hp) depending on driver..best ive seen was 3.6. The Ferrari F40 Lm was 3.2 sec. or less but it had 720 to 750 hp! and it weighed less than the factory one.

Ferrari also built five 288 GTO Evoluzione models with more aggressive and aerodynamic body styling and increased power. The engine in the Evoluzione originally put out as much as 650 hp; however, this was dialed down to 450 hp after Group B was banned as a whole in 1986.

All I stated was the is the prototype F40..and the following.
The Ferrari GTO was built to compete in the new Group B Race series and a minimum of 200 cars were required for homologation. However as only Ferrari and Porsche, with their 959, entered, the series was soon abandoned leaving just the Group B Rally championship. The Porsche 959 (as the Porsche 961) only raced three times in Group B, but the 288 GTO never raced and all 272 cars built remained purely road cars.

No, the car in this vid is the proto type F40. The GTO Evo was made to race, but never got the chance.

Check your Ferrari history dude. The GTO Evoluzione was a design stage for the final F40. They made 5 of these special cars to add to the already rally prep group B 288 GTOs (they were meant to rally, not race). However since group B was banned in 86, these cars never got the chance to enter the sport.
