Mercedes only just solved that problem with urea injection, so 50-state sales of diesels should pick up. Can't make money selling cars in the US without NY and CA.
I know for California and they laws but i don't get it why are they spending so much money on those hybrids when they can easely use European engines for they cars.

DSG is pretty freaken fast, but id still take the manual over it since you feel more involved in the driving. Not only that but i don't think the DSG has any kind of launch control.
This is the absolute latest I've seen a new installment of "Fast Lane Daily" (11:40 PM CDT). If it were possible, I'd LOVE to see these in the ALMS in a few races. Imagine Ferrari vs. Porsche vs. Audi in GT2! That newer A8 looks pretty cool. It needs the same sweetness of the A4. Quickly... that Jaguar looks pretty sweet! that jetta diesel is the only green car that americans should buy (besides the golf diesel if they bring it back, or the polo bluemotion obviously). they get much better mpg than a prius, and they look nice and are very roomy. 2 things the prius isn't. a prius in similar spec to that vw costs about $32,000 also, this costs 24,000 plus you get a $1,200 tax break for buying a clean diesel.

no, dude i think diesels are already cleaner than hybrid cars. especially "mhd" systems. have you heard of them? they're called micro-hybrid diesel systems, and the way they work is that they shut off when you are idling, and then the second you press on the accelerator, they turn on again. i know the smart fortwo diesel has it as an option, and i think the hyundai i20 does too.
i think toyota's working on a diesel hybrid for the prius though. that would burgoyne!

Only 40mpg? I had a Jetta TDI as a courtesy car a while back, it took a while to get the hang of making the most of the low down torque and the 6 speed box (we only get the maual option in the UK, but I prefer it that way). The car was nearly as quick as my friends Golf GTi and got close on 50mpg under normal highway driving. And could even better that when hyper-mileing techniques were applied.

that's why the hummer h3 is rated at 25 mpg on the extra urban cycle in the uk. in america, i think it's rated 12 mpg city and 17 mpg highway. not that it matters, that car sucks!
Every car maker uses the bigger gallon anyway, to inflate their numbers, so the hummer H3 really does have that mileage. Nice try, though. 12 X 1.2 does NOT equal 25, so you're math's off anyway.
Derek, I would get some KW coilovers for your solstice, because the suspension is not good. Also get some sway bars for better handling and a cold air intake to get that nice turbo sound, since it seems like you have no choice but to get the solstice and not a 370z
The way you review the Jetta means it sounds like this common rail shit is really new and only available on a select number of cars. The bloody Ford Transit uses a common rail diesel engine and it's a van. And that amount of pwer and torque is the 'normal' amount for a 2 litre, you can get a 170BHP, 258 lb ft engine in something as shitty as a Skoda Octavia.
In the US, common-rail diesels ARE new. It's only been a year since oil companies were forced to switch to low-sulfur diesel. Common-rail engines' high-pressure injection jets require low sulfur so they don't form deposits of crap. Thanks for welcoming us to the 20th century ; )

IMO i dont think its worth the price to buy one of those TDI Jetta's, i get similar gas mileage in my 99 civic and get more performance out of it due to the light weight.
If you ask me, there are cheaper and just as reliable alternatives to the TDI Jetta, i wasn't really saying anything about reliablity. Quality obviously not, torque you wouldn't notice due to the extreme lack of power and high weight that the jetta has over a hatch civic. Plus diesel fuel is considerably more expensive than regular unleaded at the moment, last i looked my reg fuel was 1.75 at the pump and diesel in my area was around 2.30-2.50, theres a big difference there.
Your 99 Civic is a light tin. Cars are no longer made like that these days. They're heavy. Diesel engine will get 30 percent better fuel economy than gasoline, plus on the highway, it feels better.

In the US, common-rail diesels ARE new. It's only been a year since oil companies were forced to switch to low-sulfur diesel. Common-rail engines' high-pressure injection jets require low sulfur so they don't form deposits of crap. Thanks for welcoming us to the 20th century ; )

very much so! deisels are much more fuel efficient than hybrids. i dont know why we dont use them. even a land rover diesel gets 44 mpg. yes, i said land rover. come on america, lets use them!

IMO i dont think its worth the price to buy one of those TDI Jetta's, i get similar gas mileage in my 99 civic and get more performance out of it due to the light weight.

If you ask me, there are cheaper and just as reliable alternatives to the TDI Jetta, i wasn't really saying anything about reliablity. Quality obviously not, torque you wouldn't notice due to the extreme lack of power and high weight that the jetta has over a hatch civic. Plus diesel fuel is considerably more expensive than regular unleaded at the moment, last i looked my reg fuel was 1.75 at the pump and diesel in my area was around 2.30-2.50, theres a big difference there.

Your 99 Civic is a light tin. Cars are no longer made like that these days. They're heavy. Diesel engine will get 30 percent better fuel economy than gasoline, plus on the highway, it feels better.

does anyone else agree that the new golf gti-t is pointless when VW have the scirocco r20-t coming? the scirocco is better lookin,cooler and u get more for your money, so is VW not shooting themselves in the foot a bit? of course die hard lovers of the gti will buy it, but surely open minded people will get the scirocco?
