  • my piano teacher's cat loves his shots. :) he'll meow and meow until she gives him his insulin. its the cutest thing!

  • Those needles are tiny, so the measure will look more because of the narrowness of the needle They only measure in 0.1ml increments.. My cat has never had a rich, high calorie diet. She's had a proper dry diet, for cats, all of her life, so any cat can get it!.

  • Yep scruff of the neck I have just found out can be one of the more ineffective areas to give your cat insulin, in my case it has been, just wish someone had told me I could inject her in other places as my cat has become less weak. I am now trying either side of her belly, making sure you change side and different spots regularly so it does not build up scar tissue. Also sometimes changing your cat from recommended dry food to recommended wet food can help too, will see if it works.

  • Holy cow! How much "insulin" has she put in that needle?!? That has to be SubQ fluids. No cat will EVER need that much insulin. Just an FYI for anyone out there thinking that they must be giving their cat a micro dose. Also, the scruff has little blood flow to the area, which is why all injections, vaccines included, should not be given in the scruff. You can shoot insulin anywhere you can tent the skin. I alternate sides of the belly for my kitty.

  • Gotta start with for my cat. I have hopes that she'll remain that calm however, my doubts overshadow my hopes.

Great video. I think this helped me out quite a bit now that I know she won't be hurt by it

  • That is one calm cat!

  • I have been giving my cat injections for a few months now and he has begun hissing at me when I give them. I will try to ensure I use your method as maybe I am not doing it the best way. Thanks for the video.

in response to o3MTA3o, my vet said not to give in the stomach. Why do you think that is? Maybe just his opinion. I thought it would be ok as humans do the stomach.

  • I have to give my cat his first insulin shot tomorrow - starting with 2 ml twice a day. Quite nervous but am reassured by comments already posted.

  • diabetes in cats is not only found in overweight cats on high fat and calorie diets,it can strike any cat. my cat has always been on a good diet and is 10yrs old and has diabetes.

  • every cat video i've seen has a nice tubby cat with a lot of flesh to grab. when i grab my skinny cat's scruff the "bottom of the tent" stretches and tucks deep in. also. my cat is still putting up a fight when getting pricked and it's quite stressful.. any tips from anyone with a little skinny diabetic cat that can offer advice?

  • @o3MTA3o I was told by my vet that anywhere u can get skin will do(on or around the back/neck,even belly),i pick a different spot every time, because they also say it is not good to give the injection in the same spot all the time as it can build up scar tissue and prevent the insulin from being properly absorbed into their body. I just gently pull a small bunch of hair up(thus raising the skin a little),just so i can see the skin ,and then Squirt! hope that helps:) :)

  • my cat has diabetes.

  • Yes thanks the video helped. Mum and Dad went away and had to teach me how to do it but she flinched when I did so I was sure I was doing something wrong :S

  • this cat is so cute=)

  • Thank you. Very helpful. My cat was diagnosed today actually and that's what we did w him - we shaved a patch of hair in the same spot as cat in video. Your right it sounds daunting but is not really a big deal to inject insulin.

  • Please allow people to make an instructional video without having to state the obvious. But for your benefit "this film is demonstrating the technique of how to inject your cat and water was used". I doubt if any vet would prescribe insulin for home injecting before ensuring the client knew about doses.
