I'm a law enforcement officer and without a doubt, these people are right. When I arrive on scene and I see ANYBODY with a gun in their hand and they aren't in law enforcement, believe me, they WILL be getting on the ground. I don't care if they have the CCW badge or ID. The best thing you can do in a situation where the cops are called is to lay your firearm on the ground or secure it in your vehicle. I can tell you now, I don't have a problem shooting someone who has a CCW badge on.
I can't see how people are equating this with a CCW shield, its totally different AND STATE ISSUED. I don't care who you are, anyone, cop or not, if you have a gun in your hand and no ID, you will instantly be that "man with a gun" everyone is so afraid of. It isn't meant to be worn outside the shirt all the time. Jesus, use your heads...
@AirsofterCanada So you feel safe with a law that says you can't carry at all?! So then when you're being assaulted you can be sure the only one with a gun will be the guy assaulting you. No chance for you or another law abiding citizen to stop the attacker. Yeah, that makes me feel safe too! You're a fool, you should feel safer knowing that the people around you, and you for that matter (if you so choose) are carrying and are able to protect themselves and others. Gun control costs lives!
That badge will do nothing to stop the cops from seeing you as an active shooter. Just comply with the commands and all will be fine once they feel secure.
@AirsofterCanada First, I'm not "allowed" to carry my handgun; it's my RIGHT to carry a handgun. Tennessee is a "shall issue" state. That being said, my guess is that if you find yourself being brutalized by some douchebag who is illegally armed you'll change your position pretty quick....
seems gimmicky. I dont think its necessary to carry it like that, as if it were a badge or something. When ur carrying deep its ur little secret. Last thing you want is more attention. Some1 sees that around ur neck and ur cover is blown. They might even mistake u for a LEO and u dont want that. Dont scare the sheep. If ur ever in a position where u need to show it, which is hopefully never - im sure reaching for your wallet will also suffice.
Just my HO, but open carry is advertizing a Glock that will go for $800 on the black market to those who would shoot you to get it from you.....Concealed carry adds the element of uncertainty to the decision making process of a would-be armed robber or assailant. "If I rob these two guys, will one of them shoot back?" "If I assault this guy, will he shoot me?" Like I said, just my HO....
I believe that Open Carry, which people are starting to do more of lately, is an option. Unlike the more liberal among us who want to demonize and ban anything that offends their fragile senses. Open Carry should be an option for those who chose to do it. I think that local law enforcement should be better educated about Open Carry, so abuses don't occur. I agree with hoff4win on the equipment issue. If you Open Carry you should be required to obtain a LEVEL 2 or 3 HOLSTER for said firearm.
I disagree with "killOfTrollz" comments about that a person with a CCW is looking to "Wave their gun around town" or think that "A CCW holder thinks their permit comes with a BAT-CAPE" It seems to me that this person does not have a CCW, because if this person did have one, that would be the last thing on their mind. No one who went thru the trouble and legal hoops to obtain one would put it at risk like that. Please in the future, Try to make more informed comments. Okay. Less retoric please
I agree with "hoff4win" on some of his comments. I am a Public Safety Officer, so I can relate when he says that flash decisions are made of quick body scans. And if you are carrying concealed, no one should know about it. I can also relate to the idea of a CCW badge maybe not being a good idea for ID. I am starting to think that Open Carry, which is legal in most states, might be a option. The bad guys will probably shy away from this because they dont want to draw attention to themselves.
This seems as usefull as the CCW badge. Wouldn't bad guys be able to get one of there and walk around with it. If you need to pull your gun out, be ready to drop it once the bad guy is secure and put your hands on your head till the cops get there. I don't think they'd much care for; guy with gun plus lanyard/fake badge. No need for this thing I don't think.
Good advice for when the bad guy is secure and the cops get there. The problem is when you are dragging your family out of a chaotic situation where active shooters/terrorist are all over as well as police. You better have your gun at ready and hope that both sides don't have their sights on you. I dont like the CCW badge either (I'm a cop) but I dont want to shoot the good guys in the chaos.
There are dark days coming to our country, good training, equipment, and attitude are cheap insurance. Forgo it and your dieing declaration may be "The good news is I saved money on my equipment"
The lanyard seems a bit cheesy. Southwest airlines was handing something similar out after 9/11 to help customers navigate security without losing their ID and ticket.
Why not just open carry, and wear a t-shirt that says "I'm a good guy", or "Honest Gun Totin Citizen", or (if you're French) "I surrender".
Seriously - if you really need to conceal your weapon, isn't it better just to keep your license in your wallet, and produce your GUN when it counts?
Well youve got it half right. NO ONE should know when you are concealed carrying but when the SHTF and youve got it ib your hand you better do somthing to help me and all the other cops on scene know that you ARE NOT the bad guy. We make flash decisions off quick body scans. Good luck
@hoff4win When the SHTF, it'll be over in an average of 5 seconds, well before YOU get there. I don't know how other states do it, but in TN. we're trained to be looking for the cops after it's all over BEFORE they arrive so we can lay down our weapon and identify ourselves as CCW holders. And if you make a "flash decision" to shoot an armed civilian who is holding a gun after a gunfight when that individual does NOT point it at you you're a murderer.
@homeostasis4me: wow that sucks. Here in PA they dont have to point it at you for you to be in fear of your life. For example if a person walks into Walmart and starts a shooting spree, you may engage them even if they didnt shoot directly at you. If the BG is already at a lethal level - you are defending innocent life and you can take the shot. We also have a pretty strong Castle doctrine.
@eb1zzle Ummmm....Tn's laws closely mirror PA's- in fact our Castle doctrine laws are worded into the state constitution to include, specifically, TENTS and cars as "places". My comment was directed at a police officer who was suggesting he could shoot someone who was armed at the scene of a shooting without first ascertaining the threat level, which is called murder. Peace.
@eb1zzle here in NC we have the same law its called the right to protect third party if you have an opportunity to protect someone else who's life is in danger then by all means please do
so this is a license or permit giving firearm owners the authority to wave their guns around town? geez, more authoritarian powers to civilian sheepdogs who already think their permit to carry came with a BAT-CAPE or something like that
In 1964 it might have been "Shoot them all, let God sort them out" 2009 is the age of accountability and first responders do not want to shoot innocents. Lets figure out ways to help out ALL the good guys.
exactly why a responsible citizen warrior would display it. The bad guy already knows who is with him and will shoot anybody else with a gun, The cops on the otherhand will have a much tougher time. YOU should know that a sniper is an observer looking through the crosshairs for the bad guy.
heck, that wont help, through a scope, you cant certify the licence too well, if i were a terrorist or robber ect., i would just make a quick photoshop version of this, and stick it on me when i shoot, and the police will think i am the good guy.
I carry concealed and have to say that I don't see any need for this whatsoever. I count this along the same lines as a CCW badge. A responding officer is going to consider you a threat on first contact (assuming you have your weapon drawn) whether you are wearing this or not.
Then you do not know how we (Law Enforcement) are training these days. We train our officers to quick scan the entire person including the I.D. & Badge area to the hands as well as the totality of the situation. If you are not going to do anything to help I.D. yourself when the SHTF then you should probably keep your hands empty and your weapon concealed.
So the LEO says that if I'm in fear for my life and don't have this product or a CCW badge I should just opt not to protect myself? Or maybe you make the assumption that a badge or ID carrier are the only way to ID oneself? Either way you are wrong. In the event the SHTF and a responding officer arrives I will ID verbally and non-threateningly as MY training has taught. I don't need to look like a cop wannabe.
Good commentary, thanks. Sounds like the perfect situation when the police roll up and you can verbally ID yourself but In an active situation (example Beslan or Mambai) when all *%&^* breaks loose and people, good and bad, are running all over the place creating havoc and you are just trying to find your family you dont have to pretend to be a cop just look like the good guy. Good dialogue, thanks
I respect you for your dedication to CCW rights for civilians as I feel strongly about it as well. However, being an LEO in Utah, and having been in the situation where I did, in fact, pull my weapon off duty and in civilian clothes, there was no way I was freeing one hand to grab my ID. In another instance, the Trolley Square Mall shooting is ten minutes away from my house.
During that incident, a courageous Officer from Ogden Police Dept. was having dinner with his Wife at Rodizio Grill and was able to respond with his weapon, keeping the suspect at bay. If you search that incident on YouTube, you can hear him yelling, OPD! OPD! as SLCPD SWAT officers arrived on scene. An Officer with good training will need to recognize that in todays world, there are a lot of CCW carriers and that some of those people are willing to, and will respond.
Knowing this, and being trained for this which you mentioned your Dept. does, will limit the number of innocent fatalities during a critical incident/active gunman scenario. I know in my off-duty experience, I didnt have time to identify myself as an off-duty Officer before I drew my weapon. I was yelling, Police to the suspect only after I drew my weapon and was ordering him down to the ground.
The only time I thought of pulling out my Sheriffs Office ID was when the local Police Officers arrived and took me at gunpoint. At that time, I scanned, holstered my weapon and announced that I was an off-duty Officer and told them where they would find my identification in my back pocket. No friendly-fire, no legal battles. Thank you for your support of the LE Community as well as the Civilian CCW Community.
Personally I think the idea of carrying an ID, and making it visible for LE to see, can be what saves your life in certain situations. However, your ID case is NOT very visible by any means(especially at night). I carry a gold Smith&Warren "Concealed Weapon Permit" teardrop badge. And it has made ALL the difference in TWO situations where a quick ID was critical.
It's cetainly outside the box, the video is fun, but the world, she is a changing, and many are preparing for that "last reasort" should it be neccesary, particularly to save self and family.

Now, when the cop sees the guy dragging a kid around with a gun in hand, is he a good guy or the shooter? Not always easy to discern (continued)
Hey, Hoff. I know you and your reputation, and have a great deal of respect for you. Having said that, I must admit that this is a pretty goofy idea; especially based on your little video.
