I used to do this style back when I was a teenage permie (1980s). No, I wasn't the coolest chick in school but at least I had some hair, lol. I didn't have hair sticks, though; I used little combs instead.

I also did this the last time my natural hair was long enough (about 5 years ago). I had to do it on braided-out hair though. Again, no hair sticks...but in about a year I should be back to a length where I can try this WITH hair sticks. So thanks!

Ah! I've been trying to do this for several minutes now, and it just looks...strange. I think I'm pulling my hair too tightly after I twist it from the low-ponytail position, and then I don't have enough loose hair to pull the sides around to the center of the bun. But then if I loosen the twist, then the left side of my hair comes out and sticks out of the bun? :(
