The difference between a towboat pilot and some guy in a ski boat is that the pilot spent years learning to drive 22,000+ tons on the river where the ski boat guy just plunked down his money and launched his boat the same day. I don't like pulling bodies out of the river,either.

these idiot in these small boat's do it to us all the time on the Savannah River and the intercoastal waterway all the time in Savannah Ga. Most don't have a clue to the rule's of navigating, they just buy the boat and go without a clue.

yeah i know what u mean im a deckhand on the mississippi in the st.louis area and we have a ton of people who cut in front of us with cigarette boats and stuff thinking its hilarious

I see that stuff alot. Thoes small boats think we can steer or stop for them. Takes 2 miles for us to stop going downriver with loads. It's best just not to be in the channel like that, or if the boat stalled, maybe should have gotten out of the way sooner. We can only scoop up the pieces after it's all over. At least they weren't pulling a skier, I've seen that.
