Crappy law if you ask me. I heard about it last year and wondered what the outcome would be (less cyclists, more, accidents, etc)
Here in the UK they tried to pass a similar law but we didnt have any lanes like you have so the bill was abolished. Several judges have tried to make rulings though and its been fought off so far.
Stupid laws need a concise effort either in education/enforcement of bad drivers or fighting by a big group of well organised cyclists
I completely agree ddallass, although technically that is illegal in Ireland! (You MUST stay in a mandatory cycle lane in this jurisdiction, even if turning.)
What a cyclist is "meant" to do legally at this junction, if turning right, is to continue straight and then move across the "bike box" at the front of the junction.
I am well used to this junction and anticipated the car- posted it as an example of bad cycle lane design from the perspective of a cyclist following the law.
Dear me! What a dreadful law! The state/city has produced a menace and a hazard then. Would they be held liable for the harm it can cause?
This is the worry of so many cyclists in the USA that we will be compelled by law to use dangerous and inferior bike lanes produced by bureaucrats with no understanding of how a bicycle should be operated.
Wow, nice junction there. Another wonderful example of Dublin's cycling "facilities" :)

Ouch! To protect yourself, you must merge into the travel lane to prevent motorists from overtaking you in that area.
