@chrismallyon I, know what your going through. Mine started at around your age. After 20+ years of pain, ( age now 51) I, only got it under control in the last 2y., It starts in the big toe, then knees. elbow, wrists and fingers. Any joint that shows wear. Just wondering, colchicine} and {allopurinol} you might wont to try meloxicam 15mg or some sort of ant-inflammatory medication . check with GP with first. You can vary Colchine up to 3 times a day check with GP, because it can give you trots.

I just drink lots of water, even during an attack. 8oz ever 15 minutes, but don't use refrigerated water.... unless you like hypothermia.... trust me, I did that ones. Longest time to clear a full blown attack 4 hours. Only down side... you urinate lost.
Real cherries is what works for me the most, but cherries season is very short. By eating a whole bag of cherries my pain would go down by 90% the next day. Also table salt wet with water really works for me. I rub wet table salt on my foot everytime I shower. I finally stop having gout attacks after I lost 20 pounds & keep doing the salt treatment every day. Any questions feel free to ask.
I would get gout if I was over weight and ate fatty red meat. But I found a handful dried tart cherries cures it. If I feel the symptom coming on I just eat the dried tart cherries and it goes away. Before cherries if I had and attack I would go on a fast, or just a little food until symptoms left. Cherry juice was not as effective.
I'm sorry, but all the things medically known about gout doesn't apply to me! I got it when I was 28, not overweight, drinking alcohol at a minimum, not being a sugar lover and mainly living a 'normal' life. My housedoctor told me to quit yeast, sugar, salt, hopp, alcohol and certain kinds of fruit that hold massive sugar. No way...I'm perfectly able to live life with a daily dosage of allopurinol ( just 200 mg)! Sometimes it comes back, but it's bareable.....
i got gout disease last week.. very pain in 4' o clock in the morning.. i'm 37 years old... i don't drink wine or beer.. i didn't eat alot red meat.. i'm am overweight.. but just stress overnight working, didnt sleep very well in last 3 weeks and in last 4 days i got nightmares then i got gout disease... i'm very upset i push myself.. in work...
Gout is extremely painful. i woke up about 4 days ago thinking i may have kicked the wall because my big toe was really sore. i didnt think much of it but the next night my toe hurt so bad i couldnt even sleep. even moving in the sheets hurt extremely bad.
My doctor diagnosed it as Gout, but said it was unusual at my age and gender.
Considering im a girl at only 18 years old. I later learned that my great grandpa had gout. I am extremely nervous to find out how this affects me later in life
Take a pro active attitude. Do research the topic in full.
I have had gout my self and it can be very painful indeed.
Some general pointers for gout management. Cut sweet foods not completely but considerably such as soft drinks and chocolate and fruit juice (juice is high concentrated in sugar).
Cut down on body fat as this is major contributer to gout. Your body cannot deal with sugars and uric acid as well.
Consider a low calorie diet and a good range of exercises.
just learn what foods set it off and stay away from them. mushrooms set mine off a lot of stuff sets it off also beer does. A lot of time if the doctor does a blood test after you have the gout attack it's all ready in the normal range. That's what the attack does it lower the uric acid level in your blood and for a long time I suffered and the doctors didn't diagnose the gout. Also if I'm in a lot of pain they give me a steroid shot and that help a lot.
I just woke up 2 hours ago with ALOT of pain and swelling in my left foot. it's weird cause the last 2 times i effected my right Foot. so this is new. anyways i started thinking what could have caused this Flare up, i came to the Fact that for the past week half i have eatten alot of shrimp, sushi, and Soda. which are ALL no-no's because they contain HIGH Uric Acid that cause gout., i totally forgot bout it or i would not have eaten that stuff. but yea Gout is BAD.

I have been diagnosed with gout since I was in my teens. I am now 40 years old, and let me tell you, I dont dfrink alcohol, and I have been doing a good job of watching the purine intake. It just doesnt leave, and went from my knees down into my feet and toes. THe pain is truly horrible when I have an outbreak. But after more than twety years of having to deal and have the doctor give my indomethicine, and allipurinol both; it hasnt done much for daily living. Felt I should reply here.
@mikemontgomery1970 when you get gout, do you ever get it in your knee, ankle ,and toe at the same time? I think i might have gout but not sure. everytime i go to the emergency room (no insurence), all the doctors do is give me vicoden and tell me yo take advil. could use your help.
I just got my first case of gout and I'm terrified at the prospect of it coming again. I've managed to banish it in about 5 days thanks to medication and black cherry juice, and I'm planning to change my diet (less beer, less Coke, etc). I'm hoping losing weight will help (I'm 25 years old, 5'10", and weigh 200 lbs). No guarantee that'll be enough, but I have to try. I can NOT get this again. The pain is too horrible and the impact on my life is too great.
That was reasonably a fine information on this strange and dangerous ailment. I am writing a paper on Gout disease, primarily its causes, indications and remedies. The statistics really frightened me and the rate at which it appears in the cured person again is alarming. I may not empathize why the present medicine is unable to provide a treatment to Gout. In addition to the doctor's advice, it's always the best decision to stop drinking alcohol totally.
I'm 21, and have been diagnosed with Gout. It sucks because I have to live with this for the rest of my Life. I am also Obese and consume a lot of alcohol, so it's my fault on my part.
I get really fed up with people saying that being fat causes gout. Or that drinking causes gout. Or eating too much red meat. When I developed gout nearly ten years ago, I'd been a vegetarian for approximately eight years. I had been a near tea-totaler most of my adult life (I did imbibe when I felt like it however I did go years without taking a sip of alcohol.) I was also quite slender.
I am now overweight, mostly because gout flare ups have damaged my joints & walking can be painful
Guys.. I have Gout since I was 20 yrs old.. the only organic medicine that I found is drink a shot every night of Organic Black Cherry Juice.... and you're good to go.. but avoid those food rich in purine
Great post. I am 38, have been a heavy drinker - but remain very slim. Got my first gout attack 10 days ago and I have been incapacitated. Thought I had twisted my big toe in my sleep. The pain is shocking, and I have had a lot of injuries in the past - nothing compares to this. A truly vile condition. Hoping of course that a lifestyle change, and medication, can knock it on the head before it becomes chronic. Have two long haul flights back to the UK next week. With gout. Any advice guys?
@transonicbuoy1 I use a heat pad and it reduces the pain. Also, super hot water can do the trick to spas, showers... for some odd reason the Gout pain decreases. I hope this helps...
I have none of the risk factors for Gout except family members who have suffered with Gout. So even if you live clean (no drinking, smoking, eating like a hog) you can still get Gout. NOTHING helps except getting on Colcichine (for acute attacks)and Allopurinal for actually controlling the Gout. Cherries do not work, nothing else works. Indomethicin is prescribed for swelling and pain, but it is horrible on the stomach and intestines, just get the Allopurinol from your doctor.
i just got an epic idea guys!! ok so you've heard that cherries, organic apple cider vinegar and baking soda all help for gout right? well i just got done mixing apple cider vinegar with baking soda and water.. usually apple cider vineger and water tastes so acidic therefor you can't use much ACV but when mixing the baking soda and AVC it cancles the ACVs acidity to the point you could use WAY more at one time. substitute the water for cherry juice and it's like an epic anti-gout cherry soda!!
RESEARCH: SLEEP APNEA AND GOUT... idk about you ppl but i've experienced sleep apnea and have general over all sleep issues that are probably related to the sleep apnea.. notice how the gout strikes at night.. beer also worsens sleep apnea... i want to go about this as if it is a survey due to the fact that i plan on overcomming this gout and helping as many sufferers along the way.. so please if you will.. let me know if you've ever experienced sleep apnea.. a simple "i have" will do.. thanks
@itslindseyy me and you share something in common... although im 21 and i've only started having mine since 18. Nothing worse than waking up with gout aye?
i'm 34 i have gout but much milder than what is described here thank god, i just pray it doesn't develop further, strange thing i have it in other areas than the usual ones, i have it in my thumb and shoulder
I've tried all sorts of ways to prevent it from coming, but the truth is, it'll come whenever it feels like it. Sucks, it's a major setback to life, especially if you're like me and play alot of sports.
I'm female & never did drink alcohol; I don't think they really understand this disease. I'm having an attack right now--God it hurts! Imagine someone taking a sledgehammer to your foot, the searing throbbing pain, then shoving knives into that!
Right now my left big toe is swollen and hurts like hell. It has got to be the worst pain I have ever experienced. I swear having it cut off couldn't hurt more.
I use to get this once or twice a year for about 10 years and then nothing for the last 4- well it's back!!!
i used to get gout a lot. now i eat three wheetabix every morning and still eat every thing else and drink sometimes 4 days ut of the weekk i am a couple of stone overweight and no gout in the last year or so i think itsthe whetabix worth a try
Jazzy, Youre in a very low risk pool for gout, especially if youre not overweight. Id check with a doctor but gout symptoms are usually in the joint. If you can wiggle your toes its unlikely its gout.
you should probably see a doctor to get a better diagnose,if there is no inflammation at all,it might be neurological, but i have no clue of your whole history,so Plz visit a doctor as soon as possible,
@jazzy94950 I have chronic gout; tophi the size of golf balls all over my hands feet elbows and one on my kidney. I was 25 when i got it (49 now), if you're 16 and getting it, get it seen to URGENTLY.....
@jazzy94950 You have had a mild form of gout. I know you comments was dated back several months ago but I just had a mild form of gout just recently. Not the so called golf ball size gout you probably seen on pics. But definitely its gout!. Im 49
Broke my big toe when I was 30..had my first attack at 40..about 10lbs overweight and exersize regularly.
I do not know if this is a cure but it got rid of my attack in 2 days..(could barely walk during the episode).
Half a tsp of baking soda in 6oz water 4x per day and 2 tbs of organic apple cider vinergar in 6oz of water 3x per day...also drink at least a gallon of water each day...2 days back on my feet and 80% better 4 days 90% 6 days 100%.
thanks for the info on Gout. I'm suffering from it right now. It had been over a year since I've suffered with Gout. Whenever I run out of my medication for Gout and don't get it within a few days, here comes Gout! Thanks
bugger went to the docs today because i've had a pain in my foot for about a month and he said it might be gout and watching this vid he's probably right but i dont get how i've got it i dont drink much i'm only a little overweight i workout regularly plus i'm only 29 guess it just sucks to be me and i'll have to assess my lifestyle
I am experienceing the gout for the second time in 7months.7 months ago i had it in my right foot, now i have it in my left foot. this is day three i have missed work today. last night it was the most intense pain i have ever experienced-both times. I have eliminated all red meat from my diet, that doesn't seem to have made a difference. Indomethocin helps, but i cannot go to Dr. because currently don't have ins. I am only 45 i suppose I have a lot of pain ahead of me in my life.
Believe me, You W I L L Know if it is Gout, its extremely painful, even the pressure from a bed sheet resting on thee toe caused big time pain. Drink gallons of water to flush uric acid.
I had my first gout attack not long after I had a 280 pound laminated beam fall on my foot. So, no, gout isn't always easy to spot. Sometimes doctors get sidetracked.
Some of this video set off my B.S. detector. First off there is no such thing as pain treatment for gout. If you have gout, opioids will not help. NSAIDs will not help. Neither cherries or strawberries will help.
Gout pain is cured by one and only treatment. That treatment is intestinal fortitude.
intestinal fortitude?. please explain. Real bad news for me if there is no real cure for gout, iv had gout for 10 years and lately it has been recuring for weeks and no sign of getting better.
very true i have taken diclofenac and dihydrocodeine and together they didn't beat off gout pain. good luck with it mate i hope you never have to go through it again.
Im 26 just experienced my first ever Gout attack. Left foot under the ball of toe bone. SEE A DOCTOR GET Px OF INFLAMATION PILLS AND PAIN PILLS, WHEN PAIN PILLS STOP WORKING USE NYQUILL TRUST ME! Nothing worse than waking up to GOUT Pain.
@EG2ENVY That's what I did. Went to the Emergency Room and got a prescription of anti-inflammation stuff and Vicodin. Combined with this and drinking LOTS of Black Cherry Juice, I was back to normal in about 2 or 3 days.
Is it always extremely painful? The base of by big toe has been sore the last couple of days, but not extremely so. Ive also previously had turf-toe but I dont know what could he re-injured the ligament.
I don't have any of those gross big balls or its not that red or even hurts that much, just little sharp pains here and there. That toe is also very long, so its always rubbing up against other things, might be hammer toe or something? Any Ideas?
I wonder if I have gout. The toe next to my big toe has lately been hurting. I feel stiffness and it gets cold sometimes, and like at the bottom of that toe, the joint tends to hurt sometimes. I really feel like having it bent all the time to reduce the stiffness, in other words I stretch.
yes gout is fun ..the pain is lovley ,,,...they say u can eat chicken red/blue berries ,pinapples ,bannas, low fat dairy pasta bred and grains ,soy ......DONT drink beer ,,read meat ,shellfish, .....if u do eat meat lean is the way to go ........for pain take advil and wait it out....usually the attacks last 3- 10 days .....oh always drink lots of water and loose weight if ure fat.....
up all night again, in pain. allopurinal makes my symptoms worse! I am 39 and haven't eaten red meat since I was 15. Rarely drink alcohol. What can I do. feels like my ankle is in a vice!!!!
I had my first attack in my right great toe in '91 at 47--lasted about 10 days. Toe ached to pieces--took St. Joseph aspirin. Got the most relief by sinking my foot in a dishpan of room-temp tap water--completely neutralized it. Toe went from red to purple, then peeled just like after a sunburn from the inside out. Next attack 10 years later in left big toe--same duration. About two years later, knuckle joint of right foot. Right now left toe is red and swolen, but not too painful.
Anyone with gout should look at the there diet and the levels of purines in the food they eat. I've just got over a very painfull attack and have decided to change my diet (to lower the levels of uric acid in my blood) rather than take long term medication. Google gout diets, loads of sites dedicated to this. Eat plenty of fresh cherries, blue berries and drink lots of water.
i got gout when i was 14 yrs old....and i read some comments of this video its really messing me up i eat chicken and its fine to me and drink tea its fine with me too....what the hell??
I have gout as well, I started having gout attacks when I was 20. it's a painful affliction to have. Last year my Doctor prescribed me a medicine called allopurinol to be taken with colchicine in the morning and t night time for six months. It's already been over a year and I haven't gotten any gout attacks eversince. Allopurinol works really well. :)
my big toe started hurting 2 days ago...last year i had high triglicerides, and as part of the treatment for that i was told to take fish oil supplements and eat lots of fish...now my big toe hurts - is it gout??
@kirin211 I know your comment was a year ago but taking fish oil, even in high doses, is a no no when dealing with gout. Fish oil supplements are highly concentrated than fish alone! Take it sparingly.
@dinotx69 are you sure that's the case? I've read many articles that claim that fish oil helps gout sufferers. In fact I can send you links to your inbox if you like (don't think i can post them here for spamming reasons). One point to follow that was stated on one of the articles was... "You should however, buy a fish oil supplement that is produced by a molecular distillation process because the dioxins and PCBs are eliminated from the supplement."
Thanks for this. I'm just starting to get over gout in my big toe which I have had for 10 days. Very painful, little sympathy from wife! It's kind of comforting to know that I'm not the only one.
im 30 & suffer wiv gout, but i seem 2 get it more in spurts, then it wont happen for a few months,i take arcoxia 60mg when i feel a attack commin on.. iv'e had some bad injuries playing rugby league! but none come near the pain when the gout attacks..i steer clear from curries & 2much beer! . touch wood not had a gout attack for 3mnth.
i experienced it last holiday season on my right toe.. ive taken diclofenac and it removes the pain.. but pain returns after 2 hrs. so i have to take it again.. do you have list of foods that i will have to avoid? tnx in advance...

To Prevent gout, also consume lots of fresh organic raw garlic, onions, ginger, and tumeric. These foods and spices are highly antiinflammatory.
Also it is very helpful to avoid meat and diary, and cut out most of your sugar intake.Staying away from spirits is also most helpful.

The pain is shocking, and I have had a lot of injuries in the past - nothing compares to this. A truly vile condition. Hoping of course that a lifestyle change, and medication, can knock it on the head before it becomes chronic. Have two long haul flights back to the UK next week. With gout. Any advice guys?
transonicbuoy1 1 year ago
@transonicbuoy1 I use a heat pad and it reduces the pain. Also, super hot water can do the trick to spas, showers... for some odd reason the Gout pain decreases. I hope this helps...

Allopurinol is a proven drug. My dad used it and it worked very well. There's a next generation drug Febuxostat that's supposed to be even better.

Imagine someone taking a sledgehammer to your foot, the searing throbbing pain, then shoving knives into that!

it would hurt less if the toe was just cut off, I swear this pain is by far the worst.
KAK1282 1 year ago
Right now my left big toe is swollen and hurts like hell. It has got to be the worst pain I have ever experienced. I swear having it cut off couldn't hurt more.
I use to get this once or twice a year for about 10 years and then nothing for the last 4- well it's back!!!
Kill me!

jazzy94950 2 years ago
Jazzy, Youre in a very low risk pool for gout, especially if youre not overweight. Id check with a doctor but gout symptoms are usually in the joint. If you can wiggle your toes its unlikely its gout.
MercuryRis 2 years ago
you should probably see a doctor to get a better diagnose,if there is no inflammation at all,it might be neurological, but i have no clue of your whole history,so Plz visit a doctor as soon as possible,
Good Luck !-

Broke my big toe when I was 30..had my first attack at 40..about 10lbs overweight and exersize regularly.
I do not know if this is a cure but it got rid of my attack in 2 days..(could barely walk during the episode).
Half a tsp of baking soda in 6oz water 4x per day and 2 tbs of organic apple cider vinergar in 6oz of water 3x per day...also drink at least a gallon of water each day...2 days back on my feet and 80% better 4 days 90% 6 days 100%.

That treatment is intestinal fortitude.
johnandersonii 2 years ago
intestinal fortitude?. please explain. Real bad news for me if there is no real cure for gout, iv had gout for 10 years and lately it has been recuring for weeks and no sign of getting better.

@EG2ENVY That's what I did. Went to the Emergency Room and got a prescription of anti-inflammation stuff and Vicodin. Combined with this and drinking LOTS of Black Cherry Juice, I was back to normal in about 2 or 3 days.

Eat plenty of fresh cherries, blue berries and drink lots of water.

besides eating fresh cherries wat else can i eat....?

easonyip2006 2 years ago
But I got gout because of very low uric acid levels. Im a vegetarian and I have gout. I don't get it. I don't eat meat.
blackcladlizard 2 years ago
It has alot to do about the bodies Ph number. Maybe you drink alot of juice which is very acid. Avoid cranberries, orange and applejuice...
Berries and cherries, bananas, dades, pinaapple is the way to go..

@blackcladlizard
I've had gout for years and eat primarily vegetarian meals. Beans are loaded with uric acid. If I eat too many in a week, the gout returns.

my big toe started hurting 2 days ago...last year i had high triglicerides, and as part of the treatment for that i was told to take fish oil supplements and eat lots of fish...now my big toe hurts - is it gout??
kirin211 2 years ago
@kirin211 I know your comment was a year ago but taking fish oil, even in high doses, is a no no when dealing with gout. Fish oil supplements are highly concentrated than fish alone! Take it sparingly.
dinotx69 1 year ago
@dinotx69 are you sure that's the case? I've read many articles that claim that fish oil helps gout sufferers. In fact I can send you links to your inbox if you like (don't think i can post them here for spamming reasons). One point to follow that was stated on one of the articles was... "You should however, buy a fish oil supplement that is produced by a molecular distillation process because the dioxins and PCBs are eliminated from the supplement."
