I recently bought one from a collector (Silverburst, Limited Edition) and the first thing I did was take out that crappy BurstBucker and installed a Seymour Duncan Blackout AHB-1 and lemme tell you, this thing absolutely kills. I play through a Peavey 6505+ and I found a tone that's louder than God!
Take that burstbucker 3 out and install a SEYMOUR DUNCAN INVADER in the bridge. Its a much better pick up for this guitar.. throw that burstbucker 3 in a thin body guitar like a flying V or Ice Man. I dont know what they were think'n.
I can see why this guitar might not appeal to most. But I like it, I want one and wished Gibson did not stop production on them, (a little over priced new, imo). Its raw, unfinished and crude, yeah! Just like some people I know. Anyway each to their own, no one else has to like them.
Your comment is heard gibsonoverlord. My rebuttal is that a Gibson-Studio just doesnt have any style, a BFG does, raw style, and a lot better tone.
The BFG is a really poorly built guitar, the irony of "barely finnished guitar" is lost on Gibson. I've worked as a guitar tech for nearly 20 years now, I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to do a complete overhawl on this piece of crap. The p90 is a weak hissy pickup that sounds like it comes out of an Encore, the Burstbucker is okay, but the phsyical makeup of the guitar reduces much of its tone to a fat ZERO, you'd do better getting a Gibson Studio - AVOID
Whats there to overhaul on this guitar?I think you are full of shit about being a guitar tech or you are just a piss poor guitar tech. You are probably just more of a fender guy. That doesn't like Gibson.I here guys like this bash Gibson all the time becuase they don't own one and are just jealous someone can afford one.
It looks great and everything, and I know that it's meant to be stripped down but it could at least have a truss rod cover. I much prefer the Les Paul Raw Power.
I bought one of these today at a music store (the black version) for 600 bucks used! i played on it for a little bit... i loved the natural les paul sustain it had on. it did have a totally different "feel" than most les pauls had, but overall a great guitar.
dude you can just put a syemour duncan p-rails pickup in any LP and coil split it and PRESTO! you have your p-90 in the neck AND your can have a humbucker too. Save money, and get a way better and more versatile guitar. even better if you hook up a 3-way toggle to the p-rails, cuz then you get standard single-coil too.
i played one of these the other day. i didnt rly like the feel too much, i have an epiphone les paul standard, and it feels better and sounds, in my opinion, just as good.
Uh...did they like discontinue the normal BFG? the only ones i can fin are the limited with the les Paul handwritten signature and the gary moore one.
i was so keen on this guitar! transculent cherry, wow, that looks awesome! what a pitty, i was about three weeks to late. so now i have the lp goddes, looks a bit boring, if you compare it to the bfg, and i have some pronlems with the clean sound because the two humbuckers are too loud, my tube is screaming! in clean sound!
I own a bullion burst. It's beautiful and powerful. the marketing people blow for showing off this guitar, both visual and audio. if you want to get an idea of the lead, listen to a les paul standard (burst bucker 3) the clean is a p-90 and friggin awesome. this guitar is way beyond a lace sensor strat. but as always, the sound is more in the player than the guitar
I played this guitar at Guitar Center just yesterday and it was absolutely awesome. I think im gonna be sellin a few things to maybe get one.
But I gotta say, this little Gibson youtube commercial totally sucks. The tone is awful (sure my computer speakers are crap, but i can still tell).
Whatever they used to record the guitar with for these little demo commercials, makes a solid state crate sound good. Gosh, sounds worse than a freakin Line-6 PODxt.
i love it when people actually know tone. my friend who plays 2nd guitar for my band has a fucking pod paired with a solid state crate (no shit) and he thinks it sounds fucking awesome, but he doesn't listen when i tell him its shit.
I wish it had fret inlays,a smaller neck pickup,a mounting ring over the humbucker and lose the kill switch, but hey for a gibson to be cheap, its basically gotta be a chunk of wood with strings.
the finish or i guess lack of on that thing looks better then most AAA les pauls if it wasnt for it not having frewt inlays it would look realllyy awesome
I've got that gibson, i'm happy about it BUT to make it really great i had to put about 300$ in it because the fretboard wasn't good, it wasn't straight, i changed the pickup p-90 to a seymour duncan and buy new tuners, because they didn't hold the sound very long, but anyway i'm happy so if u want to buy it just get prepared that u will have to change something in it
...you changed the Grover tuners. That's like swapping a Lexus to get a Toyota. Grovers are some of the best out there. If you had to swap anything you should've gotten a Tone-pros bridge. You just wasted money my friend.
Not really, depends on what you switch to. There are better tuners out there than Grovers. And just because it saids Grover, doesn't always mean it's good, just like all the other brand name products.
Of course all companies put out garbage equipment. However, in general, people view Grovers, Gotohs, Schallers, and Spertzels as the answer to stock tuning problems. You'd think the Grovers that come with a #1300 instrument would be pretty good. So I'm really interested in what Piotshe swapped his tuners to that was so significantly better than the Grovers.
I really wanna clarify something for people about this axe. In no way does Gibson advertise it as a heavy metal/death metal guitar. It's powerful, it's raunchy, but only in the sense of an old Chevy musclecar. If you wanna sound like a freighttrain, get the BFG. If you'd rather go for accuracy and articulation get yourself an Ibanez or even a Gibby Flying V and throw some EMGs in.
@nederbassie if you know to play good than you can use any guitar , but this shit is very good for old sc death metal , and about your second coment : there are some fenders that are much faster than jacksons and have a better sound
Got one recently. Gets played more than all the others I have. The "finish", what there is of it, is absolutely amazing for moving up and down the neck. No splinters or rough areas. It's all smooth and open-grained more like oiled wood than the thin nitro-cellulose it actually is. Recommended.
Dudem if you have not already, check on in person. The finish may not be for everyone, but photos do not do it justice. I customized the crap out of mine, swapped out pickups, rewired switches. I suppose you could refinish, but it rocks as is.
yeah, it is sanded, but unfinished, no paint or anything, just some kind of oil based something-or-other. You are more likely to get a splinter from your dining room table than from the BFG's neck.
just wondering when the guy says that this guitar has no finishing touches, does that mean theres no dots on the top of the neck to show wot fret ur playing on?
nope, but after the first few months of playing guitar you don't really need the inlay. You could always switch out the neck if you really wanted the inlay. I personally have some in my Les paul, because its simply a nice touch but dosen't affect the guitar in any way. Except lowering the cost.

I played this guitar at Guitar Center. I liked it from the start till I seen the price.
It's nothing like the fine fit and finish Gibson Les Paul's are known for and this is what attracted me to it.
Unfortunately the one I played and didn't buy was way over priced even at a used price.
This guitar new should be over $500.00. Regardless if it's a Gibson name.
It's like the ugly duckling for Gibson and price should reflect it.
reditreefrogs 2 years ago 5
@reditreefrogs Unfortunately for you there is more to a Gibson Les Paul to reflect the price than just looks.
