Plus, Vektor, a band much more talented than Slipknot, won album of the year by pretty much every website about metal. Gary Holt from Exodus (one of my all time favorite guitarists), likes My Chemical Romance. Devin Townsend likes ABBA. Mikael Akerfeldt likes Morbid Angel's new album. Conversely, I like Linkin Park. Does that mean Linkin Park is one of the best bands ever? No. And Slipknot is NOT the Beethoven of metal, and even if they were, that's not a compliment.

It really depends on how good your writing skills are, what genre you want to play, and where you live. I completely lucked out with my band, and two of my members were found on craigslist. Just have a good personality/attitude and good music and other members will come to you. My band has a strong sense of humor and that helps.

Listen to Disasterpiece by Slipknot, now that's heavy, and Slipknot is not boring, they are diverse, and Corey, the singer's voice changes through 4 albums, props to his 4 octaves, while iron Maiden has the same style and voice, but i respect them as a band, i actually like a couple songs, oh, and Slipknot is considered one of the best chaotic live shows that a band has to offer.

Corey's voice changes because of age and not because of diverse vocal talent. You want diversity in vocals? Look up Devin Townsend or King Diamond. Iron Maiden are a far better vocal talent than Slipknot and you can NOT deny that.

They jump around, they bang kegs, but there's not a huge amount of energy in the band. Meanwhile, look for bands like Cannibal Corpse for chaotic shows.

@arrestedeveloper Well it's been confirmed by the creators and cast, but I heard because my old History teacher knows the guy who makes the show personally, and she told me that they're making a new season. Unfortunately, Netflix bought the exclusive rights to the 4th season, so you're going to have to own that if you want to watch it. It's due 2013 as far as I know.

You can't compare Thrash and Death Metal bands with Slipknot. If I choose my favourite band (Tool) and compare them to Death, Death would lose too. The drummer is so much better, the bassist is fucking amazing, I would say a tie on the guitar, and Maynard is probably the better lyricist in the world.
PS: I listen to Death too, and many other Death Metal bands.
@XavieRibeiro25 Danny Carey could never write something as incredible as Crystal Mountain on drums. And on bass? Listen to Suicide Machine's "Drum and Bass tracks". If I were to compare Death (the band that invented a genre and multiple genres within, and pioneered many aspects of modern metal), to Tool (a decent Prog band that still has plenty of bands that I think are better), Tool would lose in every category. Even objectively, Death is better. And I like Tool.

Because those are some of the most well written bass parts I've ever heard. Death is renowned as a powerhouse of talent.

An arguement that most seem to pass is the fact the the bands most old metalheads love have one member for each instrument, meaning they master the shit out of them to make their unique sounds, while Slipknot has several to make a similar sound. Breaking each members sound off and listening to them apart is what really shows how Slipknow has so much less talent then the bands people like myself would rather listen to. I put Slipknot in the category of Avenged Sevonfold , glam band for chicks.

Because many bands you like (Cynic, Racer X) and some others (Pestilence, Sadus, Atheist...) have great jazz influences. And not being hard or technical doesn't make music "better". Psyopus, Daughters, Brain Drill, Flying Luttenbachers may be technical, but what about the musicality? (btw, Joey is not incredibly good, but he's a really good drummer, nonetheless).

I doubt Racer X has any jazz influence, nor does Sadus really. I admit Pestilence's "Spheres" has jazz influence, and everything Cynic or Atheist related, but why does it matter? The problem with Slipknot is in the core, not the technicalities. They fail to make good music in my eyes, regardless of what they incorporate.
Slipknot is not really considered metal, it's considered new metal. Also you can not compare Lady Gaga to slipknot. Listen to the beginning to wait and bleed and the hole pokerface song. You could tell that they have no relations to each other. Even Metallica did some easy riffs like To Live is To Die starting at about 1:03 of the song but make up for it with their complex and stunning guitar solo that starts at about 5:51 of to live is to die.
"There is evidence to support that Slipknot sucks." You lost all your credibility there. Evidence implies that what you're trying to prove is an objective fact, but there are no facts in an opinion. It's like saying "That guy is a rapist cause I don't like his face."
So that they are one of the most popular metal bands to date and have millions of fans isn't evidence to support that there are people that like them?

@Uberado Buckethead's look was not necessarily a gimmick. It reflects his sense of stage fright, love of horror films/KFC, and his point that the music matters most. While his fans love his stage antics and music very much, it was not a point of his to attract potential fans through his looks. In fact, he lost potential fans as a result.
The closest thing to a gimmick Buckethead has done was playing with GNR. And he only did it to obtain a rare toy that Axl had.

Corey's voice changes because of age and not because of diverse vocal talent. You want diversity in vocals? Look up Devin Townsend or King Diamond. You can't compare Thrash and Death Metal bands with Slipknot. If I choose my favourite band (Tool) and compare them to Death, Death would lose too. The drummer is so much better, the bassist is fucking amazing, I would say a tie on the guitar, and Maynard is probably the better lyricist in the world.
PS: I listen to Death too, and many other Death Metal bands.

I'm not a metal fan, but seriously, dont stereotype all slipknots fans as "people who dont know what real metal is." Slipknot saved my friends life, and it also bought him into metal as a genre. An arguement that most seem to pass is the fact the the bands most old metalheads love have one member for each instrument, meaning they master the shit out of them to make their unique sounds, while Slipknot has several to make a similar sound. Breaking each members sound off and listening to them apart is what really shows how Slipknow has so much less talent then the bands people like myself would rather listen to. I put Slipknot in the category of Avenged Sevonfold , glam band for chicks.

Because many bands you like (Cynic, Racer X) and some others (Pestilence, Sadus, Atheist...) have great jazz influences. And not being hard or technical doesn't make music "better". Psyopus, Daughters, Brain Drill, Flying Luttenbachers may be technical, but what about the musicality? (btw, Joey is not incredibly good, but he's a really good drummer, nonetheless).

Slipknot is not really considered metal, it's considered new metal. Also you can not compare Lady Gaga to slipknot. Listen to the beginning to wait and bleed and the hole pokerface song. You could tell that they have no relations to each other. Even Metallica did some easy riffs like To Live is To Die starting at about 1:03 of the song but make up for it with their complex and stunning guitar solo that starts at about 5:51 of to live is to die.

Why those points aren't true -
Strapping Young Lad is melodic without being poppy. But they are also heavy, simple, not boring, have amazing guitar riffs and solos when they wish (but not constant soloing), and they have a unique look without being a gimmick (how can you make a gimmick off of being bald?)

....then that means no more money for them, and they're not going to throw away their only paycheck over something as simple as whether to wear a mask or not. It's the same as KISS, GWAR, or even Buckethead. Just a gimmick to help them catch on that worked. Whether or not they use their masked persona as part of their act is up to them. While his fans love his stage antics and music very much, it was not a point of his to attract potential fans through his looks. In fact, he lost potential fans as a result.
The closest thing to a gimmick Buckethead has done was playing with GNR. And he only did it to obtain a rare toy that Axl had.
