  • Sad ... watchin old footses.... fat arl fellas an old women .. now it just looks like the jivers* ... lolol

  • like break dancers in the 80's, posers imao.........i'f one wasn't good at footie and rugby he turned soulboy.........look like ballet dancers

  • @tattoogeorge So i gather then that you could not dance then fella !

Maybe you should have tried eh ? It wasnt that hard to pick up and very enjoyable once you got the hang of it. And we are not gay ballet dancers either mr tattoo !

  • @cudaneil1

was just taking the piss a wee bit, no offense m8, i do have a nice selection of northern myself, i'm just more into heavier stuff these days.....:O)

  • There's a picture of a girl dancing with a full cirlce skirt spinning in this video. Does anyone know what year the picture was taken because I think it was me!

  • I grew up in the North but was too young to experience it (Wigan), but I heard older kids rave on about it all the time. And then when I was old enough to go it was gone! So my scene was the 80s music. Everyone has their scene I suppose. But I remember kids in the local nightclubs outside of Wigan dancing in this style and it was, I must say, rather a flamboyant and almost exotic sight in a wet dreary grey-sky and supremely grimy Northern town.

  • Super!

  • Great stuff..!

  • Not sure I could cut any of these moves now . . . Not at my age! But it's great to spot the action again after all these years!

  • @saffibaffi yer but we had duramin

  • nolan porter, keep on keeping on

  • what's the song at 2:16 can anyone tell me...ta!

  • Loved the Casino at the time, for me it was 78 to the close. I cringe at some of the dancing, and it does look like a gay knees up at times. There were some great dancers but some rigid shit shufflers too! Filming didnt do it justice. The music is still class and hey some people were sadly listening to the glitter band, Punk later and wearing platforms around the time. We were at least a cool minority and i for one was glad to be there . I now keep the fat!!! Its easier than keeping faith

  • Its not vernon spinning in this vid, its Gideon from Bolton.

  • used to dance with vernon, he wasn't as good as me, i used to lie on the stage and let him take the credit, but credit due he won the dancing comp. I never entered so he was lucky, maybe the next life

  • ARK OF THE HEART TEAR

  • gives me goosebumps <3

  • anyone remenber colin hill from washington ?

  • good seeing vernon spinning ;)

  • at 0.42 Come lads where are the back flips?? lol

  • wigan was great but i split myself between there and cleggy, preferred cleggy but reckon wigan was the heart, live in frankfurt now and still go to events here, ktf

  • never went to Wigan but had some great nights at Doncaster Top Rank when I was at college there

  • Borrowed Soul Boy (I know!) got me nostalgic. Went to Casino most Sats between '74 - '76 and this track amongst favourites and played a lot in early days. Amazingly 2.04 into the piece I spotted picture of a guy, folded arms and stockier than the others; mate of mine at the time from Rammy, great lad who I went up with on a regular basis. Look back with mixed feelings; great times and, those that were truly within the scene will know, very bad times as well! Glad I was there though. KTF

  • the casino is still with me never forgotten, great times great music great people, just a massive familly, ktf

  • I took some of these photos at the Casino ha ha

  • Class !!!!!!!!, gotta have been there, and still be there, today, to totally get this, :-)))))) love it mate. KTF.

  • how it was then

  • I love this vid Thanks for posting . Northern Soulers never die. And they still got the moves >>>

  • Cameras were a no, no no!!!! The 'scene' was so cool it didn't need to be seen, the wonder of that was and renains; you get it or you don't end of - fucking divs geting a leg in on that they know fuck all about!!

  • @mikris50 I'm with you Mirkris. I was a Wheeler, never bothered with Wigan. A camera would not have been tolerated. Still all these years on it's a good reminder of a very pleasant mispent youth. KTF. Danny, Crewe (now Jersey)

  • scotland northern soul. come ahead. we will eat you you fucking ass holes.

  • wot u on bout jon-southerner-u know fuck all bout northern soul-lol !!

  • lmaoooo this is the funniest thing ive ever seen in my life ha ha ha. ive saved it to my favourites its really funny. but one things for sure, even tho none of them can dance they all enjoyed themselves thats the main thing lol

  • It was ace here- nothin to match it _ ever!

  • Yeah Ditto Debbie....your soo right mrbrittbradford...i dont think the Mecca was even half as good as the Casino...

  • what song is that?

  • @dubindaygo song 1.The Vel-vets - I've Gotta Find Me Somebody - 20th Century records. If you want it on vinyl its been re-issued in the last few years or so on Beach Wood, or, you should be able to get a Pye "Disco Demand" UK,copy offa ebay etc. 2.N.F. Porter - Keep On Keepin' On - Lizard, also 2nd issued and booted on this label.

    3. Donn Thomas - Come On Train - NUVJ, and booted/re-isued on NUVJ and V-J.

  • just a thought, but why is somebody looking at a vid of wigan when they don't know who the vel-vets are. and yeah the casino was a dump but it was OUR dump! yeah little england or whatever it was sort of ruined it,but it was still great for a young lad back then.everyone goes on about how great the mecca was, but come on there was some right shite played there as well, some of it nothing short of new york disco. if fact didn't the scene split then and the jazz funk thing was formed.

  • @mbrittbradford well said my friend, debbie

  • Wigan Casino was a dump (then again for those who actually went they will know that) Mr M's was a far better venue in the other room of the Casino club but like Geofflovett said in an earlier post The Torch was by far the best and was doing it way before with acts such as Major Lance performing there. If all those who claimed to have gone to Wigan Casino actually went, the place would needed to have been 10 times the size that it was.

  • lovin that dancin with the old motown dancers keepin it real

  • you never lose it

  • Hey Lets get one thing fucking straight.

Long before Wigan Casino ever opened(it was a bingo hall),Us real soul men went to the Wheel in Manchester, and the Iron door in Liverpool, the Mardi and the vic in Liverpool.

Keep the faith, but for fucks sake dont say it all started at Wigan Casino.

however the great of them all The ''Torch'' in Tunstall

  • so we arnt real then er? the rest of us then

  • ladies and gentelman i give you the older , the fatter , wigan casino dancers lets hear it

  • top tunes top club, anybody remember the article they did in the Sun newspapper? about 78- 79, My mates brother and his mate are in it, Ray Marshall & Spud murphy from Loughborough, Spud was reported to be the fastest spinner at wigan. Remember listning to rays LP of Tommy Hunt live at the Casino on Sparks Label, those where the days. KTF

  • Yes this is where Julie Brown from MTV got her start. I remember traveling down in a truck from the Highland room. I remember Frankie and the Classicals and Love on the mountaintop. Paper Tiger and Dean Parish what a great time .

  • used to stand at buss stop wishing i could go notts palie all dayers with my bro and wigan with me bro's mate mark mcCough 44 now and still dream about wigan any1 who went wish i was in your boots

  • thanks spinning45's. I'm gonna get that track, superb.

  • You had to be there to realise what a fantastic atmosphere it was.The casino inside was a right dump really, but we did'nt care about that. it was home. Home to the best music ever to be put out on record.ktf.

  • amazing tune karyn redditch ktf

  • never made it to the casino unfortunately, i was a mod in the early sixties and went to the alnighters in the west end, the scene, the last chance saloon, flamingo, this was where it all started, they played gene chandler, maxine brown and all the early motown and atlantic stuff, northern soul dancing as good as it is, mainly variations on the mod dances like the boogaloo and the skate, brilliant stuff, and hey! how sweet it is ha ha

  • 50p bus ride from highland room blackpool aged 16 then walk home from wigan to lancaster belive me....
