Do not purchase this! I bought 3 of them for 3 separate networks and they all fail after a few weeks. Don't believe me? Check out the trendnet website and how they don't offer a support page for this product.
So am I correct in saying that if I connect this to say a 5 or 8 port switch and have 3 desktops plugged into the switch only 1 desktop will have internet / network access or will all 3 at the same time?
Whats the range on this? The reason I decided to order this is because my Microsoft Xbox 360 adapter (white) wouldn't be able to maintain a connection from 30 feet and I would always drop from online games.
How well does this router work through walls? I have my computer and xbox upstairs in my house, I am almost above the room that my router is in and I was just wondering how well the speed would be, because the adapter that I have now causes me to lag. Will this adapter cause lag because of walls?
@xMW2xCODMANIACxMW3x You can connect the TEW-647GA with wireless encryption even if your router does not have a WPS button. The TEW-647GA comes with a CD-ROM installation wizard, and within the wizard you can manually enter in the wireless encryption key instead of using the WPS setup method. If you have any trouble you can always contact our 24/7 technical support line at 866-845-3673.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@TheATrain427 Yes you can use any PS3 as long as your PS3 has an available Ethernet connection to interface to our TEW-647GA. Also make sure to set the PS3 to use the Ethernet port within the PS3 settings menu.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@GMCxCashMoney Yes it will work with any wireless router that supports 802.11b, g, or n. We recommend a wireless 802.11n router for the best performance though.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@54lonely Yes you can use the TEW-647GA even if you don't have a wireless router with WPS. WPS is designed to make connecting easier, but it isn't required. In fact our Quick Installation Guide shows how to setup using the Setup Wizard that's included on the CD-ROM.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
mine worked perfectly, but then it stopped working, its not broke because the lights still work. I connect it up to the computer and it recognises it, and i follow each step in the manual, and sometimes i cant get past the password bit. but if it does work, my xbox live doesnt work. Can anyone help, i have spent to much money trying to find an alternative, can anyone help?
@willcouchman13 You can call our 24/7 technical support line to get your TEW-647GA working with security again. You can reach them anytime of the day at 866-845-3673.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@Krad45805 The TEW-647GA is designed to be wired to a device's Ethernet port and make that wired device wireless. It will work with any brand Wireless N Router including non-Trendnet routers. The TEW-647GA doesn't cause interference since it doesn't broadcast a wireless network like a traditional wireless access point. Instead the TEW-647GA connects to an existing wireless network as a client-AP.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
I use them, they are great devices, but the marketing of this device is very stupid. Why call it a "gaming adapter" when it is a universal wireless access point for anything- Printers, laptops, desktops, TVs, etc. My company actually uses these things with IP Phone sets, when there is no "hard cabling" available in certain locations. Just kind of dumb that they gear it all towards gaming systems. Most newer gaming systems all have wireless built in anyway.
@at7000 You are correct it can be used for all sorts of devices other than gaming consoles. Basically it can work with any Ethernet enabled device. So if you have a wired Ethernet device and you want to make it wireless; buy the TEW-647GA to make it happen.

I have a DS Lite, so WPA on my computer is not compatible. The thing is- I have WPA, not WEP, and I don't plan on changing to WEP, because it might mess up my internet settings. I've looked into getting a WiFi USB connector I seen ( Belkin F6D4050ed Wireless N150 USB Adapter. )
Now what I want to know is will this help me get on the internet giving me the Wi-Fi I need ( Even though my netgear wireless router is a WPA ) and if so will it affect my internet on my laptop that Im using now.
@bluenala The TEW-647GA 300Mbps Wireless N Gaming Adatper supports WPA encryption and will connect to your computer via Ethernet instead of USB. The Belkin adapter is similar, but it uses USB for the connection to the PC, and it only supports 150Mbps.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
@EhRikAhrSeeGa NAT settings reside on the router. I would contact the manufacturer of your router for further support. If you have a TRENDnet router, you can contact our 24/7 toll free technical support line @ 866.845.3673 for further assistance.

Great device well executed. Will be investing in this little number shortly as I move my PS3 upstairs. Its a shame it doesnt have a 4 port gigabit LAN connection instead of only one. Means Ill have to by a separate 4 Port switch to plug into this as you mentioned. More cables and extra box that perhaps could have been avoided. Still the best of its kind IMO. Cheers.
Just letting people know it's possible to bypass the CDROM setup (didn't work for me) by going to Control Panel >> Network places or Network and Sharing Center (Win7) >> Change adapter settings >> Right click on LAN adapter for computer >> Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) >> Click on the bullet Use the Following IP address >> Type in 192.168.10.50 for the IP, default 255.255.255.0 for subnet >>
Open Browser (IE) then type 192.168.10.110 in address and you can access the setup.
I have no idea if, or where the wps button on my router is. I just want to set it up on my laptop which has win7 x64 and was wondering if I could and how?
@ConConTHPS The WPS setup is optional and not required. You can setup the TEW-647GA using the included CD-ROM wizard instead. You would connect the TEW-647GA to your Win7 machine directly first to setup the device. Once setup, you can connect the TEW-647GA to any Ethernet enabled device for wireless access.
@iawesome60 You can use the TEW-647GA to connect your xbox to the existing wireless network, and it should work as long as that wireless network has Internet connectivity.
help! i have a tew 647ga and a tew-639gr. they used to work fine but when i switched my internet they both have stopped working. whenever i try and link the wps i do everything im supposed too and that worked already, but the GA just blinks blue, then orange, then goes away. what am i doing wrong. i called tech support but i could hardly understand what they were saying and they told me to do the same thing that didn't work atleast 4 times. they were telling me to type my IP adress into my brows
@21CBC Our technical support line can help you setup the TEW-647GA. It's possible some additional configurations need to be made to get you online again.
When setting this up to work do I have to scan for networks or can I just enter the info manually? I'm going to be using this to hook my 20gb PS3 that doesn't have wireless at a friends house, and I can't really hook it up to his computer and run all the install stuff over there. Also can this remember multiple networks? Like if I use it at my friends then bring it back home and want to use it at my own house, would that work? Or would I have to re connect it to my own router again?
@3168000 Yes, you can connect an Ethernet switch so you are able to connect multiple devices to the TEW-647GA. A good inexpensive switch is our TE100-S5, but any Ethernet switch will work just fine.
Please let use know if you have any other questions.
@evilofdarkness89 The TEW-647GA wasn't designed to connect to wireless networks in remote buildings. The TEW-647GA and your wireless router should be in the same building in order to work as intended.
As a side note, you should get permission from your neighbors in order to use their wireless network because at any moment they can lock you out and knock you offline.
@Narutocrazyfan2 It's normal for the unit to heat up a little. The heat comes from the wireless radios on board and it just means that its doing its job and keeping you connected.
@dilslamed99 Our technical support line can help you setup the TEW-647GA. It's possible some additional configurations need to be made to get you online again.
im planning to purchase this to play on my xbox at my university. I dont know what kind or internet connection is going to be offered on campus, but highspeed internet connection in insured. Would this be ideal for me?
I have a wireless router from D Link downstairs. if I want to move my xbox 360 upstairs to my room, do I have to setup a private network for better performance? Is product easy to setup? (connect xbox 360 with this product and I have wifi right away?)
@Narutocrazyfan2 You do not have to setup a private network, but you do have to setup the TEW-647GA so it will connect to your wireless network. Wireless doesn't always travel between floors efficiently so you do want to make sure that you have good signal strength upstairs before purchasing. You can use a laptop with a wireless card in order to measure wireless signal quality.
The product is very easy to setup and it comes with a CD-ROM installation wizard.
You would plug the TEW-647GA into your Ethernet port on the back of your PS3. Then you would go into the PS3 network settings and make sure it is set to use the Ethernet port, and not the built in wireless.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Yes, you can still use the TEW-647GA with a Macintosh computer, and yes it will work with your 802.11g wireless router. Unfortunately the CD-ROM wizard is for Windows OS's only. However, with Macintosh computers you can manually setup the TEW-647GA, which isn't too difficult. Once you have it setup you simply plug it into your Xbox's Ethernet port and your good to game.
Please let me know you have any additional questions.
I put it on my ps3, and I havn't noticed a difference in the speed? am i supposed to do something on the ps3 to switch it over? (my ps3 is already wireless, was just hoping to speed it up)
Make sure that you are using the Ethernet connection and not the built-in wireless on the PS3. I believe you change this setting in the network configuration settings on the PS3.
@Pixelpro80 Would this product benefit me? Right now I am getting 40-57% off my wireless connection. I want to put a closer access point towards my ps3 which would could potentially enhance my connection speed. I need something higher than the listed above. I need at least a constant 80%
The TEW-647GA would definitely help you increase your wireless range. I noticed you have very low signal quality, so you might need the TEW-647GA plus an access point like our TEW-638APB to increase the overall signal coverage.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Basically the DVR or Directv system is connected via Ethernet to the TEW-647GA, and the the TEW-647GA connects to your wireless network. This will connect your DVR or Directv box to the network and Internet. Before buying make sure that your DVR or Directv box has an Ethernet connection that was meant for Internet or Network services.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
It depends on what Xbox 360 wireless adapter. If you are talking about the older 802.11g wireless adapter, then the answer is yes to all the above. If you are talking about the newer Xbox360 802.11n wireless adapter then the answer is different. Basically our TEW-647GA and the Xbox360 Wireless N adapter have similar capabilities, but the Xbox360 Wireless N adapter has 802.11a support, which to most isn't a neccessity. Other than that we are cheaper and compatible.
Yes the TEW-647GA can connect to a Linksys router or any brand of router that follows the IEEE 802.11b/g or n standard. For best range and performance we recommend a Wireless n router, but it is not necessary.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
I game with my pc ... i was wondering if this would be better for my computer vs TEW-623PI my router is a TEW-639GR ... Im looking for 300 mbps at 25 feet ... thanks
I would recommend the TEW-623PI because it has three antennas which will get you a little better speeds at a distance. The TEW-647GA is a great product, but it has two antennas so it will not reach as far as the TEW-623PI. In this scenario I would recommend the TEW-623PI.
wait so im kind of confused. I have a linksys wireless router and adapter. The adapter only recieves a max of 54mbps like most adapters. But this TEW-647GA is to recieve 300mbps. So my question is, if i link the TEW-647GA to my computer via ethernet, i can then recieve a faster signal for things such as games?
The TEW-647GA can support speeds up to 300Mbps, but you need a wireless router that also supports 802.11n (300Mbps). With your current 802.11g Linksys router you might see a marginal range increase, but you won't be taking advantage of the wireless 802.11n (300Mbps) speeds.
Please let us now if you have any other questions.
is this product better than the linksys wga600n because my signal drops at times with that adaptorn my router is dlink dgl 4500 but i dont know what to do

@greenhead106: You need a computer for the initial setup of the TEW-647GA, and after setup you simply connect the TEW-647GA to your Xbox 360's LAN port. The TEW-647GA will then wireless communicate back to your wireless router.
@whatsu57: You can use any wireless 802.11b/g/n router, but we recommend using a Wireless 802.11n router for best performance and range. There won't be any issues if you use another brand router.
@MrSeanlamkins, Yes it's very easy to setup. It's requires you to use a PC to setup the TEW-647GA to connect to the existing wireless network. The setup wizard will guide you through setting up the SSID (wireless network name) and wireless security settings. After the setup wizard is completed you can simply plug it into any wired Ethernet device to make it wireless. The whole setup takes approximately 5~10 minutes.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I have multiple consoles that are setup wirelessly.
PS3, Xbox360, Wii. The problem is that the signal is real weak. I would like to buy this product except it has one ethernet port but I have three consoles. Does it work with a switch.
Yes, the TEW-647GA can be plugged into a switch so you don't have to keep plugging the Ethernet cable into different consoles. Instead you can get a 5-Port Switch and have them all plugged in with the TEW-647GA.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
A switch would be wired-the whole point is to go wireless and not everyone has multiple consoles so why waste ports. Do you even have a PS3 or Wii? Both have wireless g and lots of people have problems with wireless coverage out of the box. Im going to try it out just to see if it works.
Ok, they try and sell you on connecting mutliple consoles, but it only has 1 ethernet port. *shrugs* Why not include multiple ports instead of making consumers run out and getting a switch...? In theory, it's a good idea...just exicuted all wrong.
Do not purchase this! I bought 3 of them for 3 separate networks and they all fail after a few weeks. Don't believe me? Check out the trendnet website and how they don't offer a support page for this product.

@3168000 Yes, you can connect an Ethernet switch so you are able to connect multiple devices to the TEW-647GA. A good inexpensive switch is our TE100-S5, but any Ethernet switch will work just fine.
Please let use know if you have any other questions.

can i use this adapter to connect to one of my neighbours unsecured wireless and connect it to my computer, leptop or TV which has lan
evilofdarkness89 1 year ago
@evilofdarkness89 The TEW-647GA wasn't designed to connect to wireless networks in remote buildings. The TEW-647GA and your wireless router should be in the same building in order to work as intended.
As a side note, you should get permission from your neighbors in order to use their wireless network because at any moment they can lock you out and knock you offline.

When I connect this to my Xbox 360 for online use, it starts to heat up and feel warm in around 10 minutes. Is this normal?
Narutocrazyfan2 1 year ago
@Narutocrazyfan2 It's normal for the unit to heat up a little. The heat comes from the wireless radios on board and it just means that its doing its job and keeping you connected.

I have a wireless router from D Link downstairs. if I want to move my xbox 360 upstairs to my room, do I have to setup a private network for better performance? Is product easy to setup? (connect xbox 360 with this product and I have wifi right away?)
Narutocrazyfan2 1 year ago
@Narutocrazyfan2 You do not have to setup a private network, but you do have to setup the TEW-647GA so it will connect to your wireless network. Wireless doesn't always travel between floors efficiently so you do want to make sure that you have good signal strength upstairs before purchasing. You can use a laptop with a wireless card in order to measure wireless signal quality.
The product is very easy to setup and it comes with a CD-ROM installation wizard.

Would this work for the slim ps2? All there is is a single ethernet port in the back of it. Will there be instructions on how to set it up?
One more thing, if this doesn't work, can I return it hassle- free?
MajinHalo521 1 year ago
Yes it will work with your Slim PS2. You would plug the TEW-647GA into the the Ethernet port on the back of your slim ps2.
Product returns are handled differently depending on the reseller. If you purchase from Trendnet Store you will get a 30-day return policy.

@Pixelpro80 can you put up a video of someone doing this *to an xbox 360*....because im thinking about buying one
NBA2232 1 year ago
You would plug the TEW-647GA into your Ethernet port on the back of your PS3. Then you would go into the PS3 network settings and make sure it is set to use the Ethernet port, and not the built in wireless.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

@Pixelpro80 I have a mac can I and my wireless router is wireless g can I still use this for my xbox?
14TylerA 1 year ago
Yes, you can still use the TEW-647GA with a Macintosh computer, and yes it will work with your 802.11g wireless router. Unfortunately the CD-ROM wizard is for Windows OS's only. However, with Macintosh computers you can manually setup the TEW-647GA, which isn't too difficult. Once you have it setup you simply plug it into your Xbox's Ethernet port and your good to game.
Please let me know you have any additional questions.

Texarmageddon 1 year ago
The TEW-647GA would definitely help you increase your wireless range. I noticed you have very low signal quality, so you might need the TEW-647GA plus an access point like our TEW-638APB to increase the overall signal coverage.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

How is this going to work with directv swim system for dvrs
albertl78 1 year ago
Basically the DVR or Directv system is connected via Ethernet to the TEW-647GA, and the the TEW-647GA connects to your wireless network. This will connect your DVR or Directv box to the network and Internet. Before buying make sure that your DVR or Directv box has an Ethernet connection that was meant for Internet or Network services.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

so this is better the the xbox 360 wireless adapter, compatible and cheaper
Herimia 1 year ago
It depends on what Xbox 360 wireless adapter. If you are talking about the older 802.11g wireless adapter, then the answer is yes to all the above. If you are talking about the newer Xbox360 802.11n wireless adapter then the answer is different. Basically our TEW-647GA and the Xbox360 Wireless N adapter have similar capabilities, but the Xbox360 Wireless N adapter has 802.11a support, which to most isn't a neccessity. Other than that we are cheaper and compatible.

Could this connect to a linksys wireless g router
thindgagandeep1 1 year ago
Hello,
Yes the TEW-647GA can connect to a Linksys router or any brand of router that follows the IEEE 802.11b/g or n standard. For best range and performance we recommend a Wireless n router, but it is not necessary.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I game with my pc ... i was wondering if this would be better for my computer vs TEW-623PI my router is a TEW-639GR ... Im looking for 300 mbps at 25 feet ... thanks
mysteriousimport 1 year ago
Hello,
I would recommend the TEW-623PI because it has three antennas which will get you a little better speeds at a distance. The TEW-647GA is a great product, but it has two antennas so it will not reach as far as the TEW-623PI. In this scenario I would recommend the TEW-623PI.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

wait so im kind of confused. I have a linksys wireless router and adapter. The adapter only recieves a max of 54mbps like most adapters. But this TEW-647GA is to recieve 300mbps. So my question is, if i link the TEW-647GA to my computer via ethernet, i can then recieve a faster signal for things such as games?
skaterass 1 year ago
The TEW-647GA can support speeds up to 300Mbps, but you need a wireless router that also supports 802.11n (300Mbps). With your current 802.11g Linksys router you might see a marginal range increase, but you won't be taking advantage of the wireless 802.11n (300Mbps) speeds.
Please let us now if you have any other questions.

on my xbox 360
greenhead106 2 years ago
@greenhead106: You need a computer for the initial setup of the TEW-647GA, and after setup you simply connect the TEW-647GA to your Xbox 360's LAN port. The TEW-647GA will then wireless communicate back to your wireless router.

so i have to buy that and a different router or just that? plz reply

@whatsu57: You can use any wireless 802.11b/g/n router, but we recommend using a Wireless 802.11n router for best performance and range. There won't be any issues if you use another brand router.

so, can you just connect, find a network, play? Like you dont have to sync it right?
MrSeanlamkins 2 years ago
@MrSeanlamkins, Yes it's very easy to setup. It's requires you to use a PC to setup the TEW-647GA to connect to the existing wireless network. The setup wizard will guide you through setting up the SSID (wireless network name) and wireless security settings. After the setup wizard is completed you can simply plug it into any wired Ethernet device to make it wireless. The whole setup takes approximately 5~10 minutes.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi,
I have multiple consoles that are setup wirelessly.
PS3, Xbox360, Wii. The problem is that the signal is real weak. I would like to buy this product except it has one ethernet port but I have three consoles. Does it work with a switch.
thanks
hkdiesel 2 years ago
Hello,
Yes, the TEW-647GA can be plugged into a switch so you don't have to keep plugging the Ethernet cable into different consoles. Instead you can get a 5-Port Switch and have them all plugged in with the TEW-647GA.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks,
TRENDnet Support
Pixelpro80 2 years ago
A switch would be wired-the whole point is to go wireless and not everyone has multiple consoles so why waste ports. Do you even have a PS3 or Wii? Both have wireless g and lots of people have problems with wireless coverage out of the box. Im going to try it out just to see if it works.
MrCleanTown 2 years ago
Ok, they try and sell you on connecting mutliple consoles, but it only has 1 ethernet port. *shrugs* Why not include multiple ports instead of making consumers run out and getting a switch...? In theory, it's a good idea...just exicuted all wrong.
Tapewormz 2 years ago
This thing seems useless for a gaming console. The PS3 and Wii for instance have built in wireless. Why bother tossing this in the chain?
