Great song Iva. The Oboe solo is worthy of the Tasmanian Symph. Thank you for all of your songs and the different memories of my life that each song evochs.
You know, since hearing this song for the first time, whenever I look at an old man, I think of this song....A mna that has a lot of history and story and much of it with color! I learned to respect me elders and this song just solidifies it! Thank you for the posting
Excelente cancion , que recuerdos cuando tenia 20 años , me llega al alma y me pone triste porque que ha pasado tanto tiempo y uno vuelve a vivir los momentos de su juventud. gracias Icehouse
I was 17 when this album came out and had started my first job in a record store. When they came to my town I didn't have the money so I sat on the stage loading dock of the theatre with a group of friends and listened. As other's have said this song is one of those defining ones and just hearing Iva play the oboe and sing this song live was magical. Beautiful song.
One of the most beautiful songs this group ever did. Where did this music go? The music of today just doesn't compare to these timeless classics. An era greatly missed, to say the least.
Why won't Iva allow Icehouse songs to be made available on iTunes? Does anybody know? I would really love to buy this beautiful, haunting, amazing song.
@80srule4ever Hey dude, I just tried to attach a link to a discussion I stumbled on when I was googling why Icehouse isn't on iTunes but YouTube wouldn't let me! Anyway, from what I found, it seems Iva Davies owns the rights to publish his music and hasn't decided to release them yet. I don't know if this is true or not but it's just what I found.
@fankhauser99 Thanks for researching the issue. I do not own any of their tracks so I was looking forward to downloading from itunes. A last resort would be to actually buy their CDs and then go from there -- longer process but I guess worthwhile. Thanks again !!!
the best thing today: I can hear all these great songs from >man of colours< from my own CD... as loud and as long as I want. You're all so right... there's no playback in it and no plastic-voice.... only real good hand-made music. I'll love it forever.
No Promisses song was very played here in Brazil in the 80´s. But since that time I have been search for all songs and history by Ice Houe and Iva.
There is no distance even time to sowing fantastic songs. Althoug I am very from Australia and never there before, all the things from that country sounds me fantastic.
Iva has a dreamed voice and I will appreciatte it forever!
Thanks for posting! Beaut song from a great Aussie band and fabulous tribute to the artist, Iva's father ... great music and of course Iva's wonderful soaring voice.
@bicks29 I can only agree with that. It exactly expresses my feelings. Music from that time was so much better than some of the crap we have to listen to today
Yeah I love his voice too, when he sings in the studio. His voice don't have the feeling for me when I hear his voice in all the live clips I have heard. What do you think?
This is the only Icehouse song I've ever heard, and I don't want to listen to any other - because I KNOW no other song can have the same effect. This is just too wonderful. Brings back a lot of memories to me. Thanks for posting the vid.
It may not actually be correct but I think that Iva's hands would have had a couple of beads of sweat on them with his father in the film clip but then, as he got into the song, he would have let the rhythm and beat provide him the support he needed.
Just would be both thrilling and perhaps a little unnerving to have your dad in one of your widely released songs.
I went to click on REPLY and accidently clicked on the thumbs down...sorry about that !
Maybe it's more to do with the artist that with itunes. Maybe some artists just don't like the idea of putting their stuff on the net in that way or maybe there are some sort of contractual/copyright things that prevent it.
Loved this song since when I first heard it on the album, when it was first released all those years ago, and I was a teenager growing up in Adelaide. Still just as powerful and beautiful now, will never grow old, and I'll never tire of listening to it. Iva Davies, you are a wonder and an all-time Aussie legend.
You didn't go to the concert on the banks of the Torrens in 1985 by any chance?? Iva Davies came down a cable from the roof of the Festival Centre to the stage playing the oboe.
I love this group. davies has one of the finest voices I 've ever heard-- deep--richly resonant-with a beautiful falsetto--I was lucky enough to see them on tour. great group.
I remember as a young boy, knowing how beautiful this was.And how it struck something inside me that I didn't quite understand. In a way that makes it to me all the more meaningful. A feeling that still resonates. I think I was about 10 or 11.

Also is it just me, or does this song, make you think sometimes, why is there crime, and wars, and why we can't all just get on in this one place, called earth. For we are all human, and this IS OUR HOME.
people close your eyes and listen to this song, it can take you to dreamland, where everything is beautiful, and you have your soul mate with you, and you will feel complete, and you will be, because you will be in your perfect paradise. Great choice Maiblume4, well done.
Great, Great ,Great, I can't belive that I Found, this is one of my soundtrack life, thanks Maiblume4 for posting it, I'm from Southern Land and the sound of this song is incredibly blue, thanks again.
Thank you SO much for posting this video. I just saw this vidoe for the first time today. As a 15-year old boy, I LOVED this song. Great memories. Bloody masterpiece is right. Thsnak again!
This is a mans heart soul balls life truth kindness love fight and a love for all things true and honest..........FUCK OFF YOU PEOPLE THAT TRY TO CONTROL MEN ! IT WONT HAPPEN WE HAVE THE POWER.....AND IT WILL COME DOWN WITH FIRE THAT YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN******you that think what u think ! It is so wrong there will be no compassion to those that try to destroy the heart of man...it is SAID
When I was 16 always wanted to dedicate my life to painting. Well, I cannot say discovering this song really helped much to take decisions oriented to art...but...It really helped in the bad moments through career and artistic life. Now I work as a fine art teacher and painter (oils and acrilycs). I still listen to this song, it remainds me of a dream I made real. Thank you, Mr. Davies.
Its simple, another example of talent far beyond their time.

It may not actually be correct but I think that Iva's hands would have had a couple of beads of sweat on them with his father in the film clip but then, as he got into the song, he would have let the rhythm and beat provide him the support he needed.

Davies.

Power to you mate. I'm still working on my dream. Hard when you don't really know what you want just yet.
