  • @sandrapoet: it's about Ike Turner hitting on the first Mrs Petty

  • i fucking love petty

  • They are a Great Band! Surviving the test of Time.

  • 2 people didn't listen to their heart.

  • I always thought this was about Stevie Nicks

  • this was the first thing i saw when i got vh1 classic haha best thing ive seen since

  • what is that song by tom petty where he says "keep on keepin on" i cannot find it for the life of me..please reply if u have ANY idea!! :))) thanks!!

  • @whatevecando Are you talking about "Mary Janes Last Dance? Has the line "gotta keep moving, On, keep moving on"

  • This is live. No Lyp Syncing. No machines. Real Alive Music! We love it. Whether it's a video or a concert...This is great music that still holds up in any situation, venue, etc. Tom Petty is a great songwriter.

  • @TheJameswalsh1 Aren't they allowed to record their vocals at the sound check for an otherwise live performance?

  • they just dont make music like this anymore !

  • is that Mike Campbell on lead?

  • @tMattLZ LOL! Who else would it be?

  • @tabber87 i didnt know if he was the guitar player back then or not.....

  • @tMattLZ yes it is Mike Campbell

  • tom you are still my number 1 man- always

  • fuck yea tom petty your the man dude

  • Stan - miss you, buddy. Steve Ferrone just doesn't have your flash.

  • @Creaulx

If it wasn't for Stan leaving, TP would have never have had to get Scott in the new "heartbreakers". Not only did Stan have an awesome and creative drumming style, along with flash, he provided a great harmony vocal, that is very prominent in this song. We sure do miss him!

  • love this song. i got one of those flying v's so i can try and be more like petty, even though it doesn't sound as good as my other guitars :)

  • @Family guy LOL Right On! And probably true!

    lol

    : )

  • Tom Petty's music reminds me of The Byrds from a long time ago. It has that

    60s feel to it.

  • @Nguli34689

there's a good reason for that . The Heartbreakers have always cited the Byrds as a band they admired . Petty alson appears on Roger McGuinns's Back From Rio . give it a listen , i know you'll like it .

  • damn record companies wanted em to say Champagine instead of cocaine but if u ask me, the record company mustve been on cocaine questioning Tom Pettys aamazing lyrics!

  • @Familyguy1230

    i agree haha

  • Tom never listened to them anyway though!! :D

  • Tom's flying V is awesome and looks super cool on him

  • Well stated NRNEVIN, their early stuff was urgent and direct and nervy, kinda raw. Alot like their new wave and punk contemporaries!

  • Most underrated band of all-time.

  • @21CenBreakdown How are they underrated? lol

  • @21CenBreakdown They're not underrated. They had a quite a string of top 40 hits, sailed through the 80s with great videos on MTV, they've won Grammys, in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Don't think anyone underrates them!

Saw them this past summer and in 2000...crowd loved them. Great concert.

  • @21CenBreakdown How are they underrated?

  • @21CenBreakdown Not by me. One of America's greatest bands

  • one of my faves!!! the first and your gonna get it are awesome albums!

  • I've been a tom petty fan since the early 1980's..what strikes me looking at this video and a few others from the early days was how edgy and fresh the band were. This was the era of new wave and british heavy metal, and the heartbreakers sort of reflected that mood. Their next few albums saw them falling back into byrds/dylan influenced territory, stil great but for me listen to her heart, too much aint enough and i need to know are their best.

  • Great song--they usually open with this or Jammin' Me (can't go wrong starting a show with either of those!). The band is and was awesome--Tom Mike and Benmont at the core, and the 4 rhythm section combos have all worked (Stan/Ron, Stan/Howie, Howie/Steve--all too brief, and Ron/Steve). Stan was great, but his "snare only" sound wasn't all that flexible. Don't underappreciate Steve--he is a great driving drummer. Plus, he (obviously) doesn't shake his hair around like Stan did.

  • HAHAHA obviously lol bald....haha that was a good one

i thaink its funny that tom has and african/american drummer when around ten years b4 tom came out with the song REBELS and the vid for it has a jacket lined with a rebel flag then later hes swinging a rebel flag lol HES A CLASSIC lol

  • @avrillavigne189- the rebel flag had more to do with him being from the south than racism...

  • @superlou1s i thought he was from canada?! like ontario or somethin. i may be wrong

  • @fadinboy ha i realise my stupidity. i was thinkin of neil young. my bad

  • @fadinboy- He's from the deep south. Northern florida. The only equally famous canadian band I can think of is Rush.

  • We need to get more rock n' roll bands to play REAL rock!! not the crap you hear on the radio

    Long live the true rockers!

  • dig it .... I AGREE on SOOO many levels!!!

  • Absoluly love it

  • The band is from gainesville, florida, not the west coast, get your facts straight!!

  • cool video and thanks for sharing

  • Those shades are pimp tight! TPATH rules!

  • AWESOME WEST COST VINTAGE ROCK

  • wtf?

  • everyone in the band is from gainsville florida so....awesome east coast vintage rock... wait,,,, what other rock is there bsides vintage cause the greenhaired heavy metal freak show shit aint rock.

I love tom petty and the heartbreakers i love his stage light sunglasses

  • Man Petty looks so awesome in those glasses.

  • Stan Lynch is a highly underrated member of this band. as much as Mike Campbell has a lot to do with the sound of this band (apart from Tom's songwriting) there was a certain vibe to Stan's playing that just seems to be missing after he left.

  • I like Steve Ferrone , but there's still a big void in the Heartbreakers with Lynch no longer in the picture . To echo your comment , he's definitely one of the most unappreciated muscians ever .

  • yes i agree w/ this

ferrone is a pro's pro no doubt but ...

from a fan's point of view (mine anyway) a a band's kinda like a family and once there's change it seldom retains the orig good vibe

lynch may not be as good a drummer as ferrone -- few are -- but lynch's departure certainly left a void that hasnt een filled my dos pesos

  • Definitely, Lynch is a big effing kid. He throws a lot of that into his drumming.

As nice of a guy and as good of a drummer as Steve Ferrone is, I thought they should have taken Curt Bisquera as their full time drummer. He has that more-poppy-bonham-esque thing that Lynch had, closer than Ferrone anyway.

  • I had those glasses!!! but i sat on them and broke them... lol:p and u cant forget that kick ass flying V hes using!

  • I love love LOVE the glasses. <3

  • Does anybody know the song they payed just before this one? the lead guitarists used a Les Paul.

  • I love this song! Tom Petty is such a brilliant songwriter. One of the best. His lyrics always get to me; so relatable. Timeless

  • Ahh, my favorite Petty guitar, the flying vee from the Hard Promises booklet. *drools at both Tom Petty and his guitar*

  • Dude are you kiddin me?!!? Its all about the Rickenbackers! Those babys rule!

  • Bleh. :/ I stand with the vee. ;)

  • i dont care wat anyone says he is a god of rock

  • agreed.

  • @PonyboyCLuvr : Amen to that!

  • Petty has had staying power where McGuinn has not. Dylan is a living legend but c'mon....it's over lol. He changed the world musically a long time ago. He's not the man anymore. Petty is played because Petty's music is timeless.

  • Honestly, Petty's latest offerings haven't exactly impressed me as "timeless" any more than Dylan's have. I don't think there's any 1 "king" of classic rock anyway- they've all offered something unique to the genre, but the earlier music seems to be what draws a lot of new fans into the fold.

  • god, tp is the coolest.

  • I actually had a limited edition Gibson flying V in about 1972 serial #180 I recall. Similar to his. Neck was too narrow for me, traded it in on a Les Paul which I still have. And I love playing this song on it. (In case you wondered why I even mentioned it...)

  • Dude! If you think that neck is narrow, try a Rickenbacker. Narrowest necks on any guitar you'll ever find.

But I love mine and I wouldn't change a thing.

  • They still Rock !! Seen them about 4 or 5 times--great shows !!! Love this song !!!

  • Tom, Mike and Benmont made the band....Tom 'Got Lucky' when he found those two.

  • nice pun

  • you forgot ron stan howie scott and steve :D

  • one of his best tracks ever

  • Tom Petty Playing a Gibson Flying V..yeah bb.

  • I really believe that they play this song better now than they did then.

  • looks like tom needs to gain a little weight.
