  • This is why I love Lynch's movies...full of incredibly nightmarish scenes like this...

  • I tell ya, if I had an identical twin, I'd pull shit like this on people all the time.

  • everyone is so freaked out and i'm sitting here wondering what the hell is wrong with me because i thought it was hilarious and was so sure this was a comedy and i'm kind of getting the vibe that it isn't...

  • First time I watched this, I was watching random TV, and I saw this same scene. From that moment, I knew it was going to be a famous scene, it's perfect.

  • Jealousy. The guy is jealousy!

  • Heard a song similar to the one at the start in Scooby Doo: "Don't fool with a phantom!"

  • Robert Blake does not blink once throughout that whole scene, and he has no eyebrows. No wonder his stare is so penetrating. If I were Bill Pullman, I'd need an underwear change after filming that scene.

  • dam that mystery man needs a tan

  • Is that Joel Grey?

  • Holy shit that's scary!

    Giant fucking cell phone!

  • @liquortongooksberg That is what cellphones where like in the mid 1990s

  • Way to spoil a party... asshole

  • Wow I'm going to have to watch a shit load of cartoons to make myself feel less scared now

  • i r the beast 666

  • Wonderful movie.

  • he killed his wife.... just saying

  • What's the name of that song? I love David Lynch's use of music and sound design. He needs to do a full on fantasy or sci-fi movie, or a continuation/end to Twin Peaks, whether in movie form or tv series. Laura Palmer did tell him she'd see him in 25 years, ...and there was that little issue of the sheriff's new best friend, Dale Cooper, now being an evil doppleganger, who just smashed his head into a bathroom mirror..... What the hell happened after THAT?!

  • @DaleVanBrocklin1 The title of the track is Something Wicked This Way Comes. The artist is Barry Adamson.

  • that's fuckin crazy man...

  • Oh, cool. Sleep's overrated anyway.

  • Strange and prophetic that Robert Blake would play the Mystery Man here in a movie about a guy who is framed for killing his wife. Later Blake would have similar circumstances in real life.

  • 1:53 is what i mean

  • Does bill pullmans tattoo have anything to do with the plot? its weird how we only get a glimpse of it in this scene...there (i believe) is significance in seeing the tattoo at this point... but what does it represent?

  • Ah! Lord Frieza!

  • "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffin' glue" - Bill Pullman looking dude.

  • Stupid!!! I've would've hit tha dwarf on the face a hundred of times before he would laugh at me!!!!! WTF???? U let it goes that easy???

  • 2:32 u mad bro

  • So this is where trollface comes from

  • Try the dare on 13horror.com

If you do it properly, you will freak out. It'll make the phone call from Lost Highway look as scar as a telemarketing call!

Good luck... I read that only 6% of people can actually make it to the end because they get too scared.

  • Horror directors take note. This is how you create real terror. You create mood and atmosphere and suspense like this. Not some torture porn scenario or some monster jumping out screaming "BOO!"

  • y'all realize that you'd only need a rigged cellphone, a pre-corded message and crepy makeup to ruin anybody's party, right?

  • @hueonpao lmaoo

  • The 90's Luke Perry hair was awesome. And on a related note to the ladies: Please, never return to the 90's short haircuts. They suck! Example: The backs of 2 women standing next to tan blazer guy at 0:21 If this is you, stop it! On second thought, if that's you, I'm sorry, and I'll be your friend, but seriously, grow it out. Oh, and this is a good scene.

  • Robert Blake didn't kill his slut wife...the one-armed man did.

  • Robert Blake was fantastic as the mystery man

  • he looks pretty friendly

  • there is an "anosvara" mark on his hand when he dials

  • The Mystery Man is a vampire. They can only come into your home unless you invite them.

  • Imagine how creepy The Mystery Man would be if he was played by Christopher Walken...

  • I really need popcorn when im watching this

  • thats fucking illl

  • like if you laught youre ass of wen you the mystery man!!!!

  • He just took away everyone's personal feeling of safety in their own homes and he did it with powdered make-up, black lip stick and an old shitty phone...wtf.

  • There's nothing like meeting good ole Death at a party.

  • great way to ruin a buzz at a party.....LOL

  • talk about being socially awkward... jeez...

  • The stereo laugh!

  • Blake- ski is a real murderer , didn't need to act...

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug!

  • That's a neat trick

  • @theawesomemanman They were they size of the typical toaster you have today.

  • ahahaha he just got trolled

  • David Lynch created some of the creepiest things i ever saw in my life . one of the best directors ever .

  • God now this is how you create horror in movies. Such an unsettling and creepy scene.

  • lol brick phone

  • I just love that there's an uncofortable second between every line.

  • 666 likes anyone?

  • @prynnax 777 likes now...

  • Robert Blake? Yikes. Creepy to the max.

  • omg, it's like getting hacked in real life, by a creepy guy who looks like my grandmother (whom is also creepy)

  • the thumbnail looked creepy as hell!!

  • best fucking scene

  • Pregnant pauses and awkwardly stilted banter is really hard to pull off without sounding forced or corny - Lynch finds the right actors and directs them perfectly.

  • This movie rips my delicate asshole apart!

  • i rewatched this recently and i reckon mystery man (mm) is death and they had actually met before but not in an in-person sense. he's a deep dark part of fred's subconscious. it shows later that he killed his wife but has no memory of it happening. i reckon mm is this dark festering part of fred's mind that formed when fred started suspecting that his wife was having an affair. the jealousy and rage slowly built up in him and that's where he and mm met before. he unconsciously invited him in.

  • scary laugh

  • yeah, this scene is definitely biggest highlight of the movie - i can't forget it after long long time like all this movie (and a lot of other movies from lynch)... and its a lot of movies I dont know what they are about even if I saw them last week.

  • 23 people have the mystery man at their house.

  • what is the magic marker on his hand when he dials? like the dot in "om"--forget what it is called

  • Great movie!

  • HOW THE HELL DID HE DO THAT?

  • The scariest part is when he whips out that giant cell phone!

  • give me back my phone, lol

  • I liked Flea better in Back to the Future II

  • yep. this was my favorite part!!

  • Anybody know what the background music at the end is? It's familiar, but I can't place it.

  • @toopoable - Something Wicked This Way Comes, I think.

  • @toopoable "Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you." It's "Spooky" made popular by the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Not sure if it is original to them.

  • @toopoable I know that Massive attack did a song called blue lines, they probably sampled it from this song.

  • thanx for the upload of this creepy beyond creepy scene, The only scene I really remember from this 1. I was a huge Lynch fan with Eraserhead,Blue Velvet,Wild at Heart and Twin Peaks, but I felt this was a muddled mess and Mulholland Drive even more so.

  • i cant stop staring into his creepy eyes 0_0

  • That was Robert Blake before he killed his wife and beat the rap

  • Does he play Oswald in Torchwood Miracle Day?

  • Stuff nightmares are stoked with.

  • i thought it was voldemort in the thumbnail.

  • E: Two of the above F: None of the above, its just happening.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I love David Lynch's films, they're so challenging to your mind and can be just about anything you can imagine.

  • You're watching some film and there comes this scene where some weird shit happens and what ever the films genre is you think to yourself: "This must be a sequence where the character is dreaming/hallucinating."

You're watching a David Lynch film there comes this scene where some weird shit happens and you think to yourself: "So this is just a regular scene." And directly after that you start thinking that this is: A: Dreams B:Hallucinations C:Another dimension D:All of the above

  • he's reminds me Sheldon Cooper's smile

  • I uhhh went back to my car to get my gun & uhhh. Lost it. NO WAIT! I had the gun on me, & I chose to park two blocks away from the restaurant because I wanted to go for a walk, stretch my legs, You know? So I had the gun forgot I had it, lost it, found it then shot my wife. NO I DIDN'T MEAN THAT. Someone mugged her & shot her. That's what I meant.

  • @Friedstuffsable ......She had it coming for a long time

  • @callmebigpapa No doubt. A man needs his space.

  • mystery man looks like frieza

  • @melloviper2 azeirf ekil skool nam yretsym

  • @Ordonity wat does that mean?

  • @melloviper2 lol your right!

  • President: I know there is much to learn from each other if we can make a truce. We can find a way to co-exist. Can there be a peace between us? Mystery Man: Peace? NO PEACE! President: What is it you want us to do? Mystery Man: Die... Die.

  • Yeah that is some crazy shit. I wouldn't want to go home after that.

  • wtf?

  • Very scary. This scene makes me want to see the film. But something about the mystery mans mannerisms reminded me of George Takei (strange I know) and on the other line imagined him saying "Goldilocks is here in bed, waiting for papa bear to come home ha ha..oh my,"

  • The 'Mystery Man' is like quantum physics personified :O

  • @528491Inception

Actually it's Robert Blake. Jack Nance was cast in Twin Peaks, though, which David Lynch worked on.

  • how the fuck can he be 2 places at once lol

  • jesus christ that guy was fucking creepy!

  • This scene has stuck with me forever, I never forget it even though it was probably 15 years since I saw the movie.

  • The thumbnail looks like Voldemort.

  • one of the creepiest scenes and one of the creepiest characters in any Lynch film...

  • wth?

  • THe pale one looks like my math teacher.O.O

  • he's like a postmodern tall man ~shudder~

  • When I clicked on this, I was expecting Voldemort.

  • Blake's delivery is immaculate.

  • Pope Benedikt??

  • Gimme me back my phone

  • so, the creepy dude just came up to the guy to tell him he can be in 2 places at once... random much??

  • boo!:p

  • I watched this one night, I had a terrifying nightmare about it :(

  • This scene would've been a lot better if Bill Pullman wasn't such a shit actor... unless, for some bizarre reason, Lynch told him to channel Steven Segal at that point....

  • David Lynch must be the king of this kind of creepy scenes. The creepiest scene I've ever scene was the one [spoiler] when Laura Dern shoots the guy in end and his face changes and he screams and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!![/spoiler], in 'Inland Empire'. Damn it, I'll never forget that face.

  • The way the music STOPS for the conversation and then starts over again, makes you think this really may be happening in this guy's head, or dream or whatever purgatory this whole movie was in.

  • No wonder they picked Robert Blake for this, he's the guy from Baretta who killed his girlfriend in real life!

  • That guy at 0:36 looks like Klaus Nomi. I'm sure they based this look on him.

  • I saw Mullholland Drive recently & it blew my face off with it's weirdness, but low and behold this looks like it might step up antother notch, I must scope this out!

  • That's just Joe Pesci preparing for his new role and some guy on the phone with a Joe Pesci soundboard... No need to get excited fellas...

  • waaaaay creepier than Voldemort..

  • The laugth is my ringtone!

  • 0:27 - Nice dance, lady. ...wait.. what? Oh my.. No wait! COME BACK! D:

  • No one admits that THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS.

  • Bela is still alive?!

  • is this actually based on quantum theory

  • I love the way Bill Pullman said, "That's f---ing crazy, man.."

  • that guy looks like voldemort

  • The Mystery Man came back in because he forget his gun.

  • I wonder if anyone's ever done this as a prank on someone (gotten someone else to be at their house, let in by a housemate or something, it must be doable). It would be a good one.

  • @graemeoliver84 - i wonder if anyone's actually bilocated in a satanic manner and actually been in both the victims house and the party they're attending when the phonecall was made. while made-up like the character singing the Roy Orbison song in Blue Velvet.

  • sure the Mystery Man has a BADASS voice!

  • Matt Damon is the extra with glasses dressed in all black in the background, on the far right of the screen @ 3:05 talking with the blonde girl.

  • the scariest thing about this scene.. the phone, hell man... the phone! It's massive!

  • robert blake murdered his wife in real life too..

  • Comment removed

  • This scene is a thousand times scarier when you know that the actor who played that pale man (Robert Blake) was arrested for the murder of his wife five years after this movie came out.

  • @Delirium1479

    Hello, fellow redditor.

  • @Delirium1479 - really? now that is odd. almost like - can't save someone, but you can detail some things about what'll happen to them.

  • @Delirium1479 This is totally fucked up O.O

  • Whats also creepy is how the music stops when he approaches him, and begins again when he leaves.

  • There are so many ways this scene could be ridiculous and laughable but because Lynch is directing, it's really creepy.

  • very memorable scene. have you seen eraserhead?

  • Creepy. Just say David Lynch and it's bound to be creepier than your average nowaday horrorslasher with 20,000 deaths and some nutjob with a knife or a fish hook.

  • Never trust a man with no eyebrows... and who never blinks... and can be in two places at once.

  • @Ytsewolf with a giant cellphone.

  • @Ytsewolf and is as pale as a piece of chalk.

  • The best part is the double laugh !

  • that happened to me one time

  • @killagangstaattack

    How was it???

    lier.........

  • @cutiebalulol lol dont you know how to take a joke?

  • @killagangstaattack - technically it'd have happened to you twice then if so.

"we would have come earlier mr. twice, but you - hadn't killed your wife then..."

i'm sorry, i don't mean to make light of actual tragedy etc but i just heard about the real life versions of this..

  • Does anyone know which song it is that plays in the beginning and the end?

  • @Swaapyou ... its called Something Wicked This Way Comes by Barry Adamson, heres the link ... /watch?v=BlwwcY_e7Gw

  • @seanwilson556 which was sampled by massive attack if I am not mistaken...

  • That's how Beretta killed that model, he was in two places at one time! :-)

  • wat just happened

  • wat just happened

  • wtf lolll i like his laugh!

  • The creepiest thing about this scene is the size of that cell phone!
