When will you guys ever learn : stop converting US planes to fight fires, WE invented the perfect plane for the job : the CL-215 (later replaced by the more powerfull 415). The ONLY airplane designed with firefighting as its primary role.
How long does it take for your "converted" airplane to fly back to base, land, taxi to the refueling station, fill its tanks, taxi back to runway, take off, fly back to the fire site ?
A CL-415 can fill its tanks in a few seconds on any water body nearby.
@QAFtuvok101 There isn't always a big enough body of water to land in here in California. Often times we'll use helicopters to pick up water from tiny bodies of water far too small for any airplane to ever land in. Most of the time converted airplanes are the best bet.
Whoa babyyyyy! Those guys weren't ready for the loss of payload on the plane. Been doing this for years and that looks like one of my first practice runs. See how they move all around when they start the drop..that plane is getting real light in a hurry! Things get squirrelly up there when that happens. That's a lot of retardent coming out in a hurry.
wish we had that in the land of oz,but succesions of cheap-ass federal and state governments can't be bothered coughing up the money and equipping the RAAF.
It's not an AC-130, AC-130's have cannons jutting out the sides of the fuselage. It is a military plane yes, many Air National Guard units are equipped for aerial firefighting capabilities when needed.
It is a regular C-130 from the CA air national Guard. Every year they are often called up into service and are fitted with a MAFFs system to drop retardent on the fire.
That looks like a DC-3 to me because it has propellers. DC-3's have propellers.

@QAFtuvok101 Most places in the American west don't have a big enough lake to land on to refill a float plane. Your planes won't work

Im not a Firefighter . But why did the Aircraft make the drop there instead of closer to the Head of the Fire?
charlie29943 7 months ago
@charlie29943 i think those planes dont actually put out fires, they usually lay down a line or break so the fire cant spread beyond it.....
