And I disagree with the idea that there's no phrasing--there are excursions into really intense expression, but there is definitely phrasing throughout the whole piece, in a really polyrhythmic way.

"Saying something" isn't always the point of music. There are times when it's about pure expression. Feeling can't always be captured when pigeon-holed into strict musical constructs. Just like words can't fully describe everything we experience, the same applies to music that follows the rules.
