Thats a great tribute !!!,....Bonanza was a must watch in our house every week(England UK) those first bars of the title music remind me of a time now lost,....then politicians made a mess of things!!!!!!! Love the black transitions.
I only just learnt of his passing, this is so sad, my childhood western, Bonanza, has all gone, tears from me, but thank you for this tribute, it was very good ans very well done
I was heartbroken to read of your passing. Once again the Ponderosa boys are all back together. Thank you Pernell for many years of happiness. Rest In Peace...Tell Robert Culp I said hi.
A beautiful tribute. He was always my favorite in Bonanza and I loved him, his smile, his sarcasm, his lean and strong body. After so many years, I look at him...and he still steals my heart. Thanks for this tribute.
It make my heart sad that you are gone Pernell Roberst/ Adam but now you all can have a new Ponderosa in Heaven and just maybe they can see that your are just as important part of the family as Michael Landon/Little Joe. RIP in Peace.
Back in the late 70's reruns of Bonanza were aired. Me, then young women, told my girlfriend I have to watch Bonanza cuz Adam is in it. She had no idea who Adam was but commented the guy she thought was a hunk was Trapper in the new Trapper John series! Same guy!

Never new he was a human rights activeist....... As a kid I love Bonanza, It was one of the great TV shows of the time here in Sweden too. Trapper John was good also.... God bless you, Pernell (Adam) Roberts
Growing up an avid BONANZA fan as most young boys then were.
In mid 80's..He and his wife drive into the IRVING gasoline outlet i was oprerating in a Volkswagon -Westfalia ..when he got out...recognized him immediately...tall..went to check plates..then asked...R U whom i think U are...he replied...depends..who do u think i am ..i said Pernell Roberts...and he said Yes...didn't think anyone would recognize me here in Canada...a friendly man. RIP.
i can't believe he's gone...rest in peace; pernell; when you get to heaven; say hello to lorne green(ben cartwright)--dan blocker(hoss cartwright)--micheal landon(little joe cartwight)--for me. Thank you guys for all the wonderful family-oriented episodes you gave us....
I can't believe that Adam is gone too, So Adam when you go up to heaven say hello to lorne Green / Ben and to hoss / dan blocker and to michael landon you guys did very good job on tv has a family you made my family happy every Sunday night that we watch you in our front room of my parents home you'll do a good job up in heaven too,
Pernell died today - it is a sad day for all knowing that all the Bonanza family have now passed on. They gave us wonderful entertainment and many great moments. RIP fellas....you will be missed by many.
Another day that we lost someone from our past who placed lasting memories in minds as children. The last of 4 men who came in our homes every week on Bonanza, those were such good old days. Great Job!!
Wow, lovely tribute. Better than anything they will do on TV for him. He was such a classy, aloof sort of guy. The tall, dark, and handsome one. Bon Voyage, Mr. Roberts.
i fell in love with him in 1959... and it never stopped. he was the perfect man 2me... r.i.p.. and thank you.. no other star will ever melt my heart as he did... god bless..
I grew up watching Pernell on the TV. As a young girl, I developed a crush for the handsome actor and said that someday I would have a son named Adam, after his charactor on Bonanaza. I did name one of my sons, years later, Adam. Watching this beautiful tribute to Pernell I realize that, in this case at least, my tastes have not changed from when I was a young girl.
Have developed a new love for Bonanza and happened on this tribute while searching for updated info on Pernell Roberts. Absolutely beautiful and moving video to a man that in a word was.....mesmerizing. Wish he would do one more show or appearance..he is what Hollywood and was made for....
Bonanza was a fun show to watch. But every time any woman dated a Cartwright she was sure to be dead by the end of the episode. As Pernell Roberts said himself about leaving the show, "I was in my forties and it was like, 'Pa, can I have the horse tonight, I have a date.'" The three sons were a case of arrested development.
An uruguayan heart that grew up watching Bonanza and your Carismatic person. God bless you. Congratulations you are not only a great actor it's more difficult to be an entire great person.Regards from Spain.
When I was growing up Adam was for sure my favorite cartright. He took no nonscense and used his head as well as his quick draw with a firearm. God bless you Pernell Roberts. You greatly influenced my life.
What a wonderfully made video tribute. One of the best I've ever seen. I met a little lady today who grew up in Waycross and went to school with Pernell. She said, "He was my hero." I decided to look for an update on him, and found this. Thanks so much for the smile and the tear.
THANK YOU EMMY EXCEPTIONAL WORK AND A GREAT TRIBUTE. .I ALWAYS LIKED ADAM.. i NEVER KNEW WHAT HAD HAPPEND TO HIM ON BONNANZA...EVEN LESS AS TO WHAT BECOME OF HIM IN HIS PRIVATE LIFE... I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT HE WAS MR. COOL..SMART,CLASSY AND THE REAL DUDE... HAPPY BIRTHDAY (81) MR. PERNELL ROBERTS. HOW ARE YOU? HOPE WELL...THANKS AND GOD BLESS
Pernell was great, on Bonanza. He left after the first season and the rest of the cast became rich. Pernell became a laughing stock in Hollywood and didn't have regular work until Trapper John M.D. 15 years later. It's a shame.
Left after the 7th season, not the first. Seven years of formulaic scripts and killing off girls in blue dresses. I love Bonanza, and wish he had stayed longer, but I don't think he made the wrong decision. Seven years is a lot of your life. No one can blame him for wanting to move on to something else.
Beautiful video, beautiful music, i've been a fan of Bonanza for many years. I'm just grateful that that screwed up TV LAND channel hasn't scrapped it. I'm 43 years old and i appreciate shows like Bonanza but i kinda lose interest in watching the show a bit when they start showing the episodes after Pernell Roberts left. He was undoubtedly my favorite character especially his performance in the "The Crucible" episodes........OUTSTANDING! the ending was the absolute spectacular performance.
Yes WONDERFUL! ending, Little Joe feeds him water from his hand, then Ben holds the water bottle to his mouth and then grabs and holds on to his oldest boy as Hoss and Joe place thier hands on one another's shoulder. What a great scene...i truly wish Pernell felt differently about the way the show was produced, just think how the show would've been creatively had Pernell stayed on. You never know, the show may have gone past 14 seasons to beat Gunsmoke....ya never know
I tried watching both of those shows on the my cable TV "Encore Westerns" channel, but unfortunately both of those shows did'nt move me to continue watching. Do you like /watch those shows? how long were they on Television?
"The Virginian" ran from 1962 to 1971 (its last season it was revamped and retitled "The Men From Shiloh"), and "The High Chapparal" ran from 1967 to 1971, I liked "The Virginian", and remembered when it aired on the Hallmark channel, but was gone after they ran only half of the second season. Pernell Roberts, interestingly, guest starred on the other Westerns after he left "Bonanza" (e.g. "Gunsmoke", "The Big Valley", :The Virginian", and its successor "The Men From Shiloh").
Thanks for the info : QUESTION! why did they change the title of the show to "The Men from Shiloh"? wasn't there a motion picture titled "The Virginian"? I saw Pernell Roberts guest star on "The Big Valley" (another show i liked by the way) but i did not have the opportunity to see him on Gunsmoke (which i watch too) Pernell was once quoted as saying "i don't feel it's appropriate for a grown man to address his father as "Pa" which was one of his gripes about Bonanza...how do you feel about that
They wanted to attract a younger audience, Doug McClure grew a mustache, and the Shiloh ranch got their final owner, Colonel Alan McKenzie, and the time period was moved up a few years. The show also got a new main title from Ennio Morricone. i can't understand why Roberts felt uncomfortable calling Lorne Greene "Pa".
Little Joe and Hoss called him that, so why didn't Roberts? There were at least three film versions of "The Virginian", the last one, which had James Drury in a small role.
Ok i remember Doug McClure, he's still alive right? Unfortunatelty Pernell left the show because he felt he was being stifled creatively. He also felt self- conscious about wearing a hairpiece on the show, he wanted to go with the "balding" look but the producers badgered him about wearing a toupe. Dan Blocker wore his and so did Lorne and Micheal landon had to dye his hair every week becuse he had a heriditary "gray" hair issue. Pernell also wanted individual creative scripts for each character
I felt that each character did receive individual storylines on the show that were actually evolving storylines in my opinion. There were storylines where Little Joe had to deal with the fear of height, Hoss had to deal with shooting a little boys father, Adam had to deal with his cousin( Will Cartwright) falling in love with his fiance. Ben had to face cattle ranchers trying to take over the Ponderosa as well as dealing with his own love interests. I think they all had some good storylines
No, Doug McClure died from liver failure in 1995 (he had a drinking problem, and known to be slightly intoxicated on "The Virginian" set). Lorne Greene, by the way, also wore a toupee, made out of yak hair.
Ok i didn't know whether he was dead or alive.Yeah like i said Lorne wore his toupee and so did Dan and as i said Micheal had to dye his hair to maintain a youthful look. It was all about bringing that visual impression that there was a father with his sons. You can't have 2 sons with receding hairlines and the other son with gray hair for gods sake. I didn't understand why Pernell had such a few odd complaints while on the show. But i'm glad he hung on till the end of his contract.
My mother was raised watching westerns, and I'm 29. Still till this day I watch Bonanza. It comes on everyday here in W-S, NC. I even have a couple of DVD's of Bonanza. Thank You Mr. Pernell, and Happy Birthday to you and many more! Ruth and Tiffany Malloy
Thank you, this comes to be my favourite video featuring Pernell Roberts. It is so touching! 2'17 is from the episode ''Blessed are they, one of the best Bonanza episodes, 2'56 is from the ''Burma Rarity'' . I thing that the one at 2'01 is from ''the Lila Conrad Story" but which episode is 2' 59 from?
A beautiful tribute to a very talented human being. How I would love to just sit and chat with this man, about his life, his talents, his joys, and yes, even his regrets..... and for no other reason, than to fulfil a selfish desire to hear it all straight from him. A very interesting and talented man. I believe he has another birthday coming in a few weeks, Happy 81st. .Birthday Mr. Roberts.
Adam Cartright was the one we all wanted to be in the playground. The "man in black". After he left, i never much cared for the series. Something was missing.
Really get scared to see all these active peoples( Lorne Greene, Michael Landon, Dan Blocker and Pernell Roberts) gets old and died.Hope someone can stop this ugly thing so called DEATH.
He could of passed as a real life son of Lorne Green "Ben Cartwright". And he would of made a excellant Zorro next to Guy Williams in my opinion!

BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE....
I miss the Bonanza series very much even though it originated in the late sixties.
Whoever cast the four actors for Bonanza should receive an oscar of some kind.
Bonanza is probably the most successful series on world TV ever.

Roberts.

What a wonderfully made video tribute. One of the best I've ever seen. I met a little lady today who grew up in Waycross and went to school with Pernell. She said, "He was my hero." I decided to look for an update on him, and found this. Thanks so much for the smile and the tear.

Pernell was great, on Bonanza. He left after the first season and the rest of the cast became rich. Pernell became a laughing stock in Hollywood and didn't have regular work until Trapper John M.D. 15 years later. It's a shame.
castletriglav 2 years ago

He was undoubtedly my favorite character especially his performance in the "The Crucible" episodes........OUTSTANDING! the ending was the absolute spectacular performance.
kdemonde 2 years ago
Lee Marvin wasn't bad either.
vividwatch47 2 years ago
Yeah you're right, Lee Marvin was great in that episode as well....how did you like the ending of the "Crucible"?
kdemonde 2 years ago
Oh yes, The episode was memorable at the climax when he tries to make it back, and goes out of his mind, only to saved by Ben, Hoss and Little Joe,
vividwatch47 2 years ago
Yes WONDERFUL! ending, Little Joe feeds him water from his hand, then Ben holds the water bottle to his mouth and then grabs and holds on to his oldest boy as Hoss and Joe place thier hands on one another's shoulder. What a great scene...i truly wish Pernell felt differently about the way the show was produced, just think how the show would've been creatively had Pernell stayed on. You never know, the show may have gone past 14 seasons to beat Gunsmoke....ya never know
kdemonde 2 years ago
It even outlasted the two other Westerns on N.B.C. ("The Virginian" and "High Chapparal").
vividwatch47 2 years ago
I tried watching both of those shows on the my cable TV "Encore Westerns" channel, but unfortunately both of those shows did'nt move me to continue watching. Do you like /watch those shows? how long were they on Television?
kdemonde 2 years ago
"The Virginian" ran from 1962 to 1971 (its last season it was revamped and retitled "The Men From Shiloh"), and "The High Chapparal" ran from 1967 to 1971, I liked "The Virginian", and remembered when it aired on the Hallmark channel, but was gone after they ran only half of the second season. Pernell Roberts, interestingly, guest starred on the other Westerns after he left "Bonanza" (e.g. "Gunsmoke", "The Big Valley", :The Virginian", and its successor "The Men From Shiloh").
vividwatch47 2 years ago
Thanks for the info : QUESTION! why did they change the title of the show to "The Men from Shiloh"? wasn't there a motion picture titled "The Virginian"? I saw Pernell Roberts guest star on "The Big Valley" (another show i liked by the way) but i did not have the opportunity to see him on Gunsmoke (which i watch too) Pernell was once quoted as saying "i don't feel it's appropriate for a grown man to address his father as "Pa" which was one of his gripes about Bonanza...how do you feel about that
kdemonde 2 years ago
They wanted to attract a younger audience, Doug McClure grew a mustache, and the Shiloh ranch got their final owner, Colonel Alan McKenzie, and the time period was moved up a few years. The show also got a new main title from Ennio Morricone. i can't understand why Roberts felt uncomfortable calling Lorne Greene "Pa".
Little Joe and Hoss called him that, so why didn't Roberts? There were at least three film versions of "The Virginian", the last one, which had James Drury in a small role.
vividwatch47 2 years ago
Ok i remember Doug McClure, he's still alive right? Unfortunatelty Pernell left the show because he felt he was being stifled creatively. He also felt self- conscious about wearing a hairpiece on the show, he wanted to go with the "balding" look but the producers badgered him about wearing a toupe. Dan Blocker wore his and so did Lorne and Micheal landon had to dye his hair every week becuse he had a heriditary "gray" hair issue. Pernell also wanted individual creative scripts for each character
kdemonde 2 years ago 2
I felt that each character did receive individual storylines on the show that were actually evolving storylines in my opinion. There were storylines where Little Joe had to deal with the fear of height, Hoss had to deal with shooting a little boys father, Adam had to deal with his cousin( Will Cartwright) falling in love with his fiance. Ben had to face cattle ranchers trying to take over the Ponderosa as well as dealing with his own love interests. I think they all had some good storylines
kdemonde 2 years ago
No, Doug McClure died from liver failure in 1995 (he had a drinking problem, and known to be slightly intoxicated on "The Virginian" set). Lorne Greene, by the way, also wore a toupee, made out of yak hair.
vividwatch47 2 years ago
Ok i didn't know whether he was dead or alive.Yeah like i said Lorne wore his toupee and so did Dan and as i said Micheal had to dye his hair to maintain a youthful look. It was all about bringing that visual impression that there was a father with his sons. You can't have 2 sons with receding hairlines and the other son with gray hair for gods sake. I didn't understand why Pernell had such a few odd complaints while on the show. But i'm glad he hung on till the end of his contract.

Roberts.
