KIFT stands for Knight Industries Four Thousand. In the Knight Rider timeline, it is the car that would replace KITT in the year 2000. I guess they had to make it a 4000 so that the name would be different than KITT. The entire KR timeline is confusing with the Team Knight Rider, KR2000 where KIFT is from and the new KR that is on now.

If you are talking about the new series comeing out this fall the answer is no. In the Knight Rider TV movie that came out around 1990, KIFT was suppose to replace KITT who ,at this time, had been dismantled and his parts sold. KIFT may have been superior to KITT capabilities wise but not in programming. Near the End of the film KITT's CPU in installed in the Knight 4000 body.

nice vid, but for cryingoutloud!! ... there was no shifting in kift.. had the newest hydrogen drive system.. similar to kitt's, only kift's didn't need a real gearbox.. only reverse and neutral... (just listen in the movie...) thats all what doesn't fit.. :)

@terenas1986 That doesn't mean he didn't need to shift gears. Maybe he didn't have a gearbox, but it still needed to change gears internally or else its engine would have stalled at like 8500RPM and like15MPH.

kift is the model up from kitt,(KNIGHT INDUSTRIES 4000), BUT kitt was installed in KIFT in KNIGHT RIDER 2000 so he could fight crime in the year 2000, but it didnt catch on so now its a cult movie, check it out its very cool. you can get it on the first season of knight rider on DVD.

So far we have KITT, KITT in the upcoming movie, KIFT (can go on water), KARR, KARR5000 (modified '07 Charger Daytona), and we've even put in the Knight Rider 2000 soundtrack. Our KITT has three voiced responses to erratic driving.
