Mavis has one of the world's most beautiful smiles. It is honest and comes from her large and warm heart for all the world to see. She is amazing and I'm glad she is FINALLY getting the recognition she so richly deserves. I wish it could have happened sooner...but, she really doesn't. She honestly believes she's exactly where she's meant to be each moment of her life. What a strong woman.

Joss started singing Soul and R&B when her peers were all listening to Pop. She does a great job on each album, growing as an artist, and a great job improvising with the great Ms. Staples. They obviously enjoy each other and both are talented voices and musicians. Those who have to make it a competition either old vs young or black vs white are acting foolishly. Its about the music, people. Don't politicize that which should be bringing people closer and turn it into a bad thing.

It's amazing that Mavis can still sing this song at all. Mavis is pushing 70 and singing that raspy for decades has to have an effect.. I think it's great Joss could show respect and appreciation for a legend and show her skills by doing the song justice without trying to show up a legend.

every musician learns from imitation. There is no other way unless you live in Antarctica and force a child to create music from scratch without them having any musical influences. Motown / Rnb / ska/ reggae were huge in Britain, we cannot expect younger generations not to be influenced by others. Its what musicians have done for centuries.

Joss started singing Soul and R&B when her peers were all listening to Pop. She does a great job on each album, growing as an artist, and a great job improvising with the great Ms. Staples. They obviously enjoy each other and both are talented voices and musicians. Those who have to make it a competition either old vs young or black vs white are acting foolishly. Its about the music, people. Don't politicize that which should be bringing people closer and turn it into a bad thing.

Joss has a strong voice and I like music she plays but she has so horible image that I can't look at her. She looks and moves like britney, it seems that she doesn't understand this music. It's sad. This performance shows that this is the kind music which belongs to black people. I love Mavis!!!

when Mavis sang at wattstack she was great, now it's like she's trying to compete with these new girls and all either one does is try to show their vocal range. I for one am tired of that. She should just sit back like she used to do with Roebuck and kill.
These new kids can't hold a candle to what she's done in the past. If you listen to Respect yourself or any of the older songs she didn't sing this way. Cut it out, both of the just sing the damn song.

It's amazing that Mavis can still sing this song at all. Mavis is pushing 70 and singing that raspy for decades has to have an effect.. I think it's great Joss could show respect and appreciation for a legend and show her skills by doing the song justice without trying to show up a legend.

every musician learns from imitation. There is no other way unless you live in Antarctica and force a child to create music from scratch without them having any musical influences. She is up there because she has a good marketabilty factor.
Out of all the thousands of young girls who can sing almost better than Joss Stone and appreciate the old school almost more so equally than Joss Stone.
There are some underrated singers i know who can sing next Mavis and blow the roof down.

Lisa Stansfield another British soul singer was influnced by Diana Ross but I don't hear her trying to sound like a Diana. When I hear Lisa I hear Lisa.

I believe that her age is the only thing that is saving her but I have younger girls who have their own originality in singing
For example Shanice and Monica started singing at younger age than Stone around 14 years old and their voices are very unique. In their prime they weren't compared to Aretha or Gladys because they had their own voice.
I don't know if she really find her own voice because she relies too much her influences but if she does than that is excellent!
