You guys don't get it. This is not about blood & guts, decay & Satan! Johaan's voice is brutal & unique, but this is about battle & glory. Strength & honor, the ancient Norse way. It's true, it's a little disappointing how people's preconcieved notions about this kind of music is so negative. I've no doubt that a lot of people who listen to Amon Amarth casually, or have only heard a couple of their songs, misunderstand what their music is about. This is truly poetic music, far more than almost anything currently being produced.
Still, just as clarification, they ARE considered Melodic Death Metal, but that's only a title, and they shouldn't be confused with lesser bands.
This song, is truly poetic. With that said, it could never be read as simple poetry, it needs the music they have composed for it. Sets the tone perfectly, and conveys the message.
Don't give ushcky too much shit about grammar. English is his second language.
Anyway, this is by far my favorite Amon Amarth song. I love all their songs, but this one really captures the moment. The lyrics couldn't be greater. This is truly the final nail in the coffin securing metal's greatness. Hail Amon Amarth.

Viking Metal isn't a sub genre for Black Metal. As far as vikings didn't play metal, any metal involving enough vikings and stuff in lyrics, outfits and so on, is considered as viking metal. Black Metal may be sometimes viking metal, specially 'cause norway and sweden are major countries for Black Metal scene, and also countries vikings used to live. And yes, Amon Amarth is propably best band in the world.
i didnt mean it literaly, i meant it more as in Black Metal is what influenced a lot of Viking Metal sound and Viking Metal was spawned and in a sense a different form of Black Metal in which the lyrics and music is based more on Norse Mythology and History rather then in the case of Black Metal where it is about religious oppression and various other related topics, many Black Metal bands are considered to be satanic which may be why many lyrics are anti-christian etc.
To both of you, you can't forget that Viking Metal isn't a sub-genre. It is a lyrical theme.
The sub-genre of Amon Amarth is Melodic Death Metal.
And I would say it could either be spawned by Black Metal or Death Metal. The lyrics are from the Viking mythos, obviously, and both Black Metal and Death metal bands address religious themes. (example: Dimmu Borgir (black metal) is satanist/luciferian, Nile (death metal) is Egyptian/Lovecraftian).

WOO! Thank you. I believe in Jesus and God, but all the crap churches say is a bunch of BS. "You must be saved to go to heaven," or, "If you don't try to convert your friends you will go to hell." Wtf is that. Yeah, and I believe you can go to heaven even if you aren't christian, and I get so much BS for that.

BTW christianity isn't a religion, its a way of life that is now somehow fused with politic bullshit. however, jesus is the only way to heaven and most christians don't even believe in God or are very easily loose their faith if something bad happens. Christianity is Not a religion, its a way of life. IMO, i think its wrong for parents to brain wash against their will at such a young age and No, God isn't imaginary or made up because things don't go the way we want it to be. Thanks! I figured that out once I read the booklet in the CD. I watched the DVD that comes with it and wondered where they were from because their English is so good. I live in Canada so that is what lead me to believe they might've been from the U.S. or something? Thanks though for the input!

You guys don't get it. This is not about blood & guts, decay & Satan! Johaan's voice is brutal & unique, but this is about battle & glory. Strength & honor, the ancient Norse way. It's true, it's a little disappointing how people's preconcieved notions about this kind of music is so negative. I've no doubt that a lot of people who listen to Amon Amarth casually, or have only heard a couple of their songs, misunderstand what their music is about. This is truly poetic music, far more than almost anything currently being produced.
Still, just as clarification, they ARE considered Melodic Death Metal, but that's only a title, and they shouldn't be confused with lesser bands.

Anyway, this is by far my favorite Amon Amarth song. I love all their songs, but this one really captures the moment. The lyrics couldn't be greater. This is truly the final nail in the coffin securing metal's greatness. Hail Amon Amarth.

Viking Metal isn't a sub genre for Black Metal. As far as vikings didn't play metal, any metal involving enough vikings and stuff in lyrics, outfits and so on, is considered as viking metal. Black Metal may be sometimes viking metal, specially 'cause norway and sweden are major countries for Black Metal scene, and also countries vikings used to live. And yes, Amon Amarth is propably best band in the world.

i didnt mean it literaly, i meant it more as in Black Metal is what influenced a lot of Viking Metal sound and Viking Metal was spawned and in a sense a different form of Black Metal in which the lyrics and music is based more on Norse Mythology and History rather then in the case of Black Metal where it is about religious oppression and various other related topics, many Black Metal bands are considered to be satanic which may be why many lyrics are anti-christian etc.

To both of you, you can't forget that Viking Metal isn't a sub-genre. It is a lyrical theme.
The sub-genre of Amon Amarth is Melodic Death Metal.
And I would say it could either be spawned by Black Metal or Death Metal. The lyrics are from the Viking mythos, obviously, and both Black Metal and Death metal bands address religious themes. (example: Dimmu Borgir (black metal) is satanist/luciferian, Nile (death metal) is Egyptian/Lovecraftian).
I'd call it Death Metal.
