  • totally not metal

  • huh. This reminded me more of Glam Metal or modern rock than any sort of good metal.

  • I personally like drop C....and in that tuning my Warlock GROWLS!!!! AND I MEAN DEATH METAL GROWLS!!! But lower tunings dont equal more heavyness. It all has to do with your hands and what and how your playing.

  • Yes THIS IS Metal.

This is IOMMI style guitar playing = more Metal than any lame-ass guitar player of today's metal bands could ever come up with.

  • @CentraCross That's not Iommi style, that's Glam metal style.

Listen to something like Children of the Grave then to this, they don't sound at all alike.

Not to mention there are metal guitarists these days who can come up with riffs that are far heavier, and beautiful than even the stuff Sabbath pulled off. The two best examples probably being Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth and Frederik Thordendal of Meshuggah.

  • haha. metal. haha. he likes to think so.

  • this isn't even metal.... let alone heavy metal.

  • LOLOLOL DETUNE GUITAR TO DROP C ONLY PLAY PALM MUTE = METAL!

FUCK NO! DETUNE YOUR GUITAR TO DROP TUNINGS DOESNT MAKE A RIFF "HEAVY" OR "METAL" IT JUST MAKES IT SOUND LOWER!

  • Fuck you, "Expert" Village. You're a fucking content farm. Your videos are nothing but spam. No one in your videos has any clue what they're talking about.

Everyone who reads this: Give thumbs down to all NOOBVILLAGE videos that provide nothing of value (probably all of them). They are here only to make money off of you and I through advertising revenue by hiring people in different industries to give "advice" just so a video about it exists on their channel, NOT to help us.

  • Every expertvillage video i watch makes me want to watch other expertvillage videos less then the previous one...

  • Drop B tunings sound the most awesome in my opinion. Listen to Amon Amarth, Bloodbath or Nile (drop A) for illustration. Of course, it's the playing that makes it sound awesome, but drop B tuning really helps a lot ;)

  • @Thanatiphoros SlipKnoT.

  • Lower tunings do sound heavier but it doesnt make it metal. just search Tosin Abasi

  • @pauljpetersen99 Lower tunings sound lower. NOT heavy.

  • Guys you want heavy use a 6 string bass guitar with shit loads of distortion and there you go low and heavy

  • Ahh, I have a classic black Les Paul with EMGs... I can get that exact tone if I wanted to... if I wanted to... IF... I wanted to...

  • LOL He looks like a teacher at my school that's a complete retard.

  • brutal

  • Dropped tunings don't really create heaviness; they create thickness, a fat distorted sound. There are several artists who use low tunings and don't really play heavy music.

  • Well, at least this video does not feature the all and acclaimed Gary Shi*..i mean Schutt ! :P

  • its "heavy"

  • Expertvillage is full of retards.

  • is this dude in love with A7fold ??? that music sucks!!! not even heavy

  • i dont like these "experts" metal riffs.... their riffs are what they used to here with megadeth or something in the 80's.

  • shinedown uses riffs like this all the time

  • This is pre recorded he's not playing go to 44 seconds and you will see

  • more like rock thn metal

  • thats like something offspring would play

  • expertvillage SUCKS

  • great vids

  • WTF, HEAVY METAL RIFFS !?!?!

Winston is gonna beat you down !

  • Fuck this. Fuck st anger and cowboys from hell. Just listen to Opeth.

  • St.Anger was a heavy song, what the hell are you on, it's got a more chuncky sound in the guitar riff then Cowboys from Hell... 5 Minuets Alone is way heavier then Cowboys from Hell.

  • @sammyboy dude marshall mgs have NO tone. to fix that problem you might wanna get a BOSS metalcore ml-2. im in a screamo band. good lucj your gonna have to fuck with the levels when you get it

  • @evilmilkshakex3 Screamo sucks my left and right balls!!

  • Wratchild?

  • sounds like a shitty punk riff.

  • wtf this is metal this sucks

  • he didnt teach SHIT

  • the lowest i tune to is either Drop d or drop D flat

  • @rockerboyx231

wow Drop C is the new standard...

  • @CaptnSmurf how does this refer to what i said?

  • Cool tip for beginners , so thanks :)

  • metal? that i could buy. Heavy metal??? fuck no.

  • ok who the fuck would put EMGs on les paul LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but nice.

  • @StefanTheSerb u are a dead beat zakk wylde uses les paul it has emg ya fool

  • I like to cheat and drop d the low e string...and then use my digitech pedal to downtune the guitar as a whole 1 step...gives you a full step downtune...with an added drop c on the low e...I know...it's cheating...but it retains having nice tight strings to work with...and not those horrible loose slappy strings.

  • You could just invest in new strings instead of spending a fuck load of money on that digitech pedal XD

  • Drop d is just a lazy mans "d tuning"...meaning rather than tuning the whole guitar down one step...you just drop the low e down...it has is good points though...gives you a lower chunk at the bottom without sacrificing a nice tight upper end...you gotta be very careful when dropping a guitar down a full step since most guitars are not made for it and end up sounding rather shitty and loose when you do it.

  • OMG EMG on Les paul X'D

  • first part of riff reminds me ''korn-did my time'' (absolutely its same entrice)

  • nice bro, guitar center rockstar below me lmao. you cant sound like drop d in open E smart guy, why do you think its alternate tuning. cause you have to tune to drop d to get that sound. unless you can know where every d is on each string to keep that bass note all over the fretboard, youd have to be like steve vai, but hey you must be impressed with your gutair center following by now though so if it works for you keep doing it.

  • As long as you turn up the bass on your amp, down tuning is not needed. I can do a death metal style riff in standard tuning when the bass is turned up to max and the gai is turned up to max with the treble all the way down on neck pickups. Bar the e, a, and d string and play this with bass up, gain up, and treble down:

54354354543543544324324343243243. I play that at guitar center all the time and everyone always asks me how I get a deep tone. You also need something thats for heavy playing.

  • Post a video with that, i think you're wrong about what's Death Metal and what's not. Death Metal guitars are often very, very trebly.

  • I dropped E"s and was off my face..

  • this is like some Aerosmith bullshit, hahaha

  • "What i did there..."

Did i ask you 'What you did there'?

  • AUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • that's not drop C.....this isn't metal either. if this was drop C it would be a lot heavier. either way this shit is not metal at all.....

  • lol its metal but not... heavy metal.

  • he didn't say drop C..

and you have something VERY wrong...

    low tuning doesn't Equal heavy.

Metallica's St.Anger was in drop C was it heavy? no.

lets look at pantera's "Cowboys from hell". its in standard and it is much heavier than St.Anger.

so. lower tunings do not equal heavyness.

  • hey retard, i'm commenting after someone elses comment about it being drop C. the reason that you think st. anger isn't heavy is because of it's speed, and the amount of distortion. the same goes for why cowboys from hell is heavy. i would say st. anger has a good heavy tone to it.

  • st doesnt have a heavy tone to it, metallica tried to make it "popular" thus downtuning the guitars because they thought it was heavyer...

still. dontuning doesnt equal heavy, please dont argue because it doesnt. look. i play every tuning between standard E to Dropped G tuning. not to make it heavy, but to make it fir the song, it would be just as heavy in standard.

its what you make out of it.

it you cant make a heavy song withouy having downtuned guitars then metal probably isnt for you.

  • of course. that's the basic principle i live by. i usually go down to drop D at most. unless i'm doing covers. the lowest i've tuned was drop B. but i think good metal can still be heavy in standard. either way, if you compare cannibal corpse to say megadeth....you know good and well cannibal corpse is heavier.

  • @LTCimbulletproof

yeah, i totally agree, but the old Cannibal corpse was just as heavy as the new one. before they tuned the guitars in Eb, now they tune in standard Ab(i thing they went even lover on Evisceration Plague)

i think we just misunderstood each other:P

  • @OndskapensHersker haha i was thinking the same when i wrote that comment dude. it happens =)

  • I think they got heavier, but that might have something to do with increasing song-writing skills over the years.

  • hey metallica just does not know what to do with drop c tuning ask shadows fall and killswitch engage how well drop c works out for them.

  • Yeah, Killswitch Engage is so creative and not generic at all.

  • hey i know that this was like, forever ago, but how would you use different tunings for the song? im kinda stuck when it comes to making up riffs at the moment so can you help please?

  • Well, do you mean how to tune your guitar to another tuning? Or what you can do with the alternate tunings? :-)

  • also irish music can be played in dadgad, which is lower and by any means it is ''heavier"

  • @OndskapensHersker ur stupid it makes it sound morbid bitch

  • @OndskapensHersker But it will propably, if the player doesn't suck, that is, most of it's in the tone and the playing. Look at Deicide, they're the most evil fucking band ever, and they're in Eb, you're right.

  • @OndskapensHersker Cowboys from hell was in drop c i know how to play it and its on power chords soooo....

  • @pokemonplyr

why would you play cowboys from hell in dropped C???

the lowest note in that song is a low E so what's the point of making the guitar able to sound like 2 steps lower?

  • @OndskapensHersker no buts it makes for easy bending if ur lazy :P:P

  • @OndskapensHersker uhhhh...St. Anger was pretty heavy lol

  • @OndskapensHersker You have proven nothing else than the fact than you have an opinion, and you humiliate and talk down to him like that? Lol. Just L-O-L.

  • @OndskapensHersker youre right.i think pantera is one of the heaviest bands of all time.and alle the people have to think of that these drop c or drop b (death)metal bands always uses 2 guitars what makes a fat wall of tone.but pantera mostly kicks ass in standard or drop d and the most time with just one guitar.they had nuts.

  • @OndskapensHersker HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA did you say st anger????!!!!!!

  • @OndskapensHersker are you fukin kidding me? st anger wasnt heavy? wow ur fukin retarded, it wasnt awesome but it sure as shit was heavy

  • @OndskapensHersker i agree man dimbag played in standard pretty much the whole way through CFH and that was one of the heaviest albums conceived by mankind

  • @OndskapensHersker That's Right ! One example of heavyness in Drop C, System of a Down.

  • @OndskapensHersker i must not know the meaning of heavy, cuz in my opinion st. anger is VERY HEAVY and very raw. not their best album, but heavy non the less. I do however agree with you CFH is a heavy monster, for a mostly standard tuned album

  • @krmiles123 St. Anger, in concept, is similar to Hellhammer...except it was complete crap.

  • @OndskapensHersker i agree with you some standard e stuff is heavy as

you dont have to go out and buy a 7 string or tune your 6 right down to sound heavy

its all in the riff and tone

  • @OndskapensHersker hey your right but CFH is tuned 1/4 step down (Eb Ab..) ;)

  • @heavymedlarruti666

it's actuallt just tuned down 5hz from standard E. so it's much closer to E then it is to Eb.

  • @OndskapensHersker Unless you're talking like Drop G, or Drop A lmao. Even B. Idk no matter what you try to play in those tunings it's going to be heavy and disgusting.

  • this is metal??... news to me....

  • yeah, not your usual black metal shit is it?

  • @BigJrock45s yeah, it was back in the 80's and they did this same kind of rithmyc figures... Today's a whole different story, heavy metal trully became HEAVY not like this demo, this sounds like Paramore or something

  • @BigJrock45s it would sound much heavier with distortion

  • @BigJrock45s

    It's typical hard-rock/heavy metal riff.

  • @BigJrock45s OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLD metal

  • crap

  • hah he said synyster sound :D avenged sevenfold :D

  • He said 'Sinister' sound, meaning evil sounding. He wasn't referring to the Avenged Sevenfold guitarist.

  • Sinister: Suggesting or threatening evil.

    Not the person you goof.

  • I need you guys opinion on something. Do you think that D standard (DGCFAD) would be good for this type of music?

  • what type of music?....i think D standard is pretty much good for everything...actually all tunings are good for everything...jus depends on the way you play..i prefer Drop tunings cause it makes root fifth powerchords quicker...but thats just me...

  • That helped a bit. Thanks.

  • yeah, i play in drop B, cuz' i think it's a very low sound, and sounds great and easy to play killer tremolo normal power chords in 5th and 4th and make one lower one finger power chord at 6th that breaks with that sounds very nice...

  • Thanks for turning the guitar into an idiot instrument.

  • @varulv234 Ummm...my digitech pedal is more than five years old...and is the only effect pedal I own...and it was also only $80 when I bought it. Hardly a fuckload of money...more like a smart investment for people who can't afford to buy 3 or more individual effects pedals. Not only that...most people hate the sound of new strings.

  • I was just saying that new strings would be much more practical and inexpensive.

  • i have it on standard and use destortion

  • Tbh, B - Standard is used more for death metal than A Standard or A# Standard. Slipknot use A, but bands like The Berzerker, Carcass use B.

  • slipknot only used drop A on the all hope is gone album otherwise they use drop B like machine head or parkway drive

  • Sounds like the improvised riffs from Muse between songs :D

  • drop c is my fav though ive only ever used standard e, drop d, standard d and drop c

  • drop a's the best

  • drop a aand a# aresick but you have to have your guitar really setup for that shit and a good tube amp...like one band i play for plays in a# i run 13s jus to keep the tension up..only thing i dont like bout those low tunings is that multiple not chords get kinda muddy

  • Well,

Drop A is used mostly within Death Metal and even though it sounds muddy as you say, which it does.. bands like Nile use piano strings (2.5 - 9) on their guitars and alot of distortion on the amps, so if you actually like Drop A or A#, then you are just going to have to live with it :P

  • You could use a regular guitar, although you'd need some pretty thick strings.

  • i used to play in standard tuning then i learned drop d now im makin up my own METAL songs

  • sounds like Wrathchild

  • I used to be obsessed with Drop C and B but now I just stick with standard and Drop D for my writing.

  • I was only writing in standard but at some points I just couldnt come up with good riffs so I tuned in Drop D and that openend whole new posibilities and now is my fav tuning xD

  • if u want sweet as death metal riffing try drop d 1 step down standard tuning style

  • what? do u mean drop c?

  • he means D-standard (a whole step down from standard) with the lowest string tuned to C like the third string but the octave below

  • yea lol that's drop c.

  • i dont think its drop c

  • nah drop a

  • ya drop B is definantly heavier sounding

  • i know, drop C is the shizzle!!!

  • if you like Drop D, you should try Drop C or Drop B.

  • dude drop c is soooo awesome

  • I think drop b is more "fun" sounding than drop c

and by fun i mean METAL

  • Lol drop g or F? :D lol ??

  • Dropped D is fun as hell.

  • that's like trash metal drums with a rock guitar sounding riff.

  • im having trouble doing this, is there any tabs?

  • can i use it? ill make my own version of it for my band

  • Can I steal that for my Band?
