  • Very cool! Welcome to the "I am a hogger" club. I think this counts and yes I am jealous!

  • ХРЕНЬ

  • You're a lucky fellow, in my opinion. I'd give just about anything for a cab ride in a big steamer like this, although even a small engine would be a special treat. I also think it neat that the crew let you have a go at the whistle, which is always a pleasure to hear, and a special privilege indeed.

I run simulators and live steam models for the time being, but one day I'm hoping to get a shot at the engineer's seat and run the full sized version, even if only for a day.

  • Im jealous, very jealous, haahha! Cool dude!

  • I think that this locomotive is owned by Doyle McCormak.

  • C jbccdd

  • @EMD645E Without Doyle or the efforts of the Union Pacific Steam Crew, We'd never have a chance to experience the AWESOME sights & sounds of these magnificent jewels of railroad history.

  • Doyle is one of those people that I don't know what the railroad steam community would do without.

  • You, sir, are hands-down the luckiest guy in the world. I am insanely jealous: that's my life's dream right there. Congrats, man.

  • OK, I'm jealous! Awesome!

  • couldnt you just ask doyle if you can sit in the cab

  • i cant stop slapping myself! Why? You are SOOO LUCKY!!!! That must have been SO much fun. Let me quess. You had to be 21 because of safety. thats why i cant ride in nkp 587 once she gets restored

  • @GoldenCreekValleyRR Actually you only had to be 16 to buy raffle tickets for the cab ride. Luckily I had just turned 16 a few months before. It was definitely an incredible experience!

  • @GoldenCreekValleyRR why you hitting yourself, why you hitting yourself

  • "Cannonball 4449!!!"

  • You are the luckiest person in the world!

  • you have NO IDEA how lucky you are

  • did you get to run at all?

  • not bad on the whistle man an u r one lucky SOB

  • It'd be AWESOME to drive the 4449!!!

  • @ford9572 fyi, here in america we run our trains. lol

  • I live near where they store the SP 4449! Awesome Video!

    ***** (Five Star Rating)

  • In Germany we don't have such cool steam whistles... :(

  • wow buddy thats a real honor! back here in california at orange empire the guys put me to work and make me run the injector which is kinda fun but i wanna sit engineer seat!

  • Lucky

  • Doyle's a great guy and this video is the proof.

  • i did not say Ross I said Mike Long

  • yeah, I don't know who that is.

  • hey are you mike Long

  • No, my name's Ross, I'm from Pittsburgh.

  • @bjlrbern are you the one blowing the whistle

  • @bjlrbern

Ross, You've got a good method for that whistle! Is this locomotive you're operating a steam locomotive, because when you leaned out the window and pulled the whistle, I could tell it was possibly a steam locomotive, which my dad and I refer to as a pufferbelly. I've ridden on a train, and it was for the Fall Foliage Train Ride, and the cars were old Pennsylvania Railroad train cars, which are beautiful cars to ride in!

  • @kurtdog119 Yes, this is a 4-8-4 steam locomotive, referring to the wheel arrangement. And technically I wasn't operating it, the engineer just let me sit in the seat to blow the whistle for a railroad crossing. Thanks for watching!

  • @bjlrbern

You've got a good pattern for that whistle, Ross! I didn't think you'd have any pattern as good as the one you used at that railroad crossing! The main thing to do is lean out the window and blast that whistle at each crossing, and have a good whistle pattern.

  • Man, that's awesome. Bet you felt on top of the world there.

  • Yeah, it was really an amazing experience. I hope they continue to do this for other railfans!

  • How old are you? I love meeting new railfans that are my age.

  • I'm 16, been a railfan since I was a year old.

  • did he tell you the name of the whistle?

  • No, but I think it's a different one from what the Daylights originally used.

  • Well, 4449's whistle is off of a Great Northern Z-Class Challenger... sounds pretty good :)

  • im right there with aacuna, i hate you just out of pure jealousy lol, had to have been and amazing feeling

  • Ross, you are so weird, but that does look pretty awesome

  • How fast were you going?

  • Probably about 25-30. (They wouldn't let me get her up to 80!)

  • your speed limit in that area is 50 so I'll give you 40 for that shot

  • Awsome! Must be pretty cool to be able to be in the helm of such a historic and famous locomotive

  • Yeah Not to mention such a legend as Doyle too, not many engineers will let people take the throttle's of their old girls! :)

  • was that doyle sayin.....";ur on camera"?

  • Yeah it was.

  • @bnsf261 YES!!! Read the description!!!

  • i love it :)

  • all i can say is........LUCKY! lol, did u blow the air horn?

  • No, I only did the whistle, but I got to hear the horn before we left Owosso.

  • Very hard core. I shot video of this train at 11 different locations across the state of Michigan on Different days. Vids are on my youtube account.

  • I wonder how loud the whistle is from inside the cab.

  • I have a few more shots leaning out the window, and I can't recall the fireman's name, but I have a shot with him in it. I'm working on loading them now.

  • That's awesome! I'd love to get to Portland at some point, but I live in PA, so Trainfest was a great opportunity for me to see the 4449 in person.
