@shum65 Labour of love, I can tell.. working on my projects and Cocteau twins on youtube in the background, very pleasant experience, i find the videos for all tracks release under the Garlands album are quite suitable.. thx for all the work..
I think you do a fine job indeed with the visuals for these Cocteau Twins gems. I'm a lil' bit disappointed to see 'shum65' smack in the middle of the newer ones, but i understand the dilemma of doing interesting work without necessarily being credited. The people who care enough to notice figure it out though. I hope you leave these older ones up. cheers!
Fab work as usual. I love the subtle use of colors and also the video effect of parts looking like well-rendered ink drawings. This is one of the few songs I've never heard before; very hypnotic. ♪( ´▽`)。
@shum65 I'm studing Agronomy and we have a course called Entomology..so we have to learn so many families..orders, classes and phyllums :) and I hope Melonella helps me with Lepidopterous :) I friend told me the names are out of date. @kaari1 thanks for your suggestion, you are a very cool band; I HAS A HARD TIME THOUGH TO FIND YOUR VID, i wanne be your friend, if you have oo much I wanna be your dog... whatever !
Ok.. correcting myself.. I had read in an interview with Elizabeth that it was a list of MOTHS. But checking out some of the listed names, it is BOTH moths and butterflies... which are not the same thing.. But she did make up imaginary words for her songs.. a LOT. I've seen some lyrics posted here and there that had NOTHING to do with what she actually said, and I've seen her shoot some of them down.. but she was always polite about it..
but as you say, i dont worry over the lyrics at all, I know hardly any lyrics to their
amazing tracks, its the depth of feelings and emotions Liz can create with her truly gifted vocal style and range, coupled with the guys otherwordly music, both together creating heaven in sound for us all to enjoy...
Moths, I think, rather than butterflies. I could be wrong, often am. As far as finding lyrics.. don't search TOO hard. Elizabeth made up her own words (not her own lyrics, her own WORDS!) AT LEAST as often as she didn't. Any lyrics presented are at best SUSPECT.
This is one of my favorite Cocteau Twins songs. It's dissonant, beautiful, and sounds like nothing you've heard before. Plus, the butterfly names in Latin totally work with the rhythm of the song.
@blainebill39 thank you mate but the credit of this great discovery belongs to the owner of a website called: cocteau twins an appreciation site.. the guy who owns this website makes a great work of analysis of the whole twins work... I think we must all say a big thank you to this guy!!!:)) Bye!
I remember some people doing that on one of the CT forums a while back - some were way out there, but it was funny how often people heard the same wacky things. And then there were a few stuffy Individuals who considered it almost blasphemy to pursue anything but the absolute true lyrics. I think it's neat to know the real lyrics, the few times they've been revealed, but still like making some up as I listen.
These lyrics are absolute! You can find them online. Evey word she's saying is the scientific name for different butterfly species! I printed them up onced and followed... amazing!!!
OK, so don't read on if you hate when people guess or (nicely mock) CT lyrics, but I always find myself singing along, making stupid stuff up, with this song. Just little bits like "climb-a-tree-day", or "Super Sneeze Hey Nasty Bastard", or "I got wasted when you cheated", and "It's a church day - on your knees pray!"
We split in '91, after 6 years, but are still long-distance friends. He just flew into town last month for a stay, and went through my records and CDs, noting how prominent the Twins, Nina Hagen, Diamanda Galas and a few others continue to be in my collection. They aren't the only things I listen too, but I guess he thought by now they would have been relegated to storage somewhere. No way!
Yeah, that is an extremely dark piece. I listen to it sometimes, but, to be honest, relate much more to the trilogy, and of course her later pieces - especially the borderline homicidal love songs! And lately, "Last Man Down" and the remix of "Hex" have been getting me through the days/nights.
"Schrei" is just about the "dirtiest" sound treatment I have ever come across in a record. Asfixiating.
I do love the trilogy, and in my opinion "Plague Mass" is the perfect vehicle for it. That recording, combined with "Saint of The Pit", "The Singer" & "Vena Cava" make up my CdWs (Can't-do-Withouts).
Very nice job, once again! This is another of my all time favorite Cocteau numbers. How I miss 1985! I also remember my Ex joking around that Liz seemed particularly inspired by Barbra Streisand's Broadway Album in this song, especially with her energy and spirit behind the Lah Dah Dee Ah Dah Dah's - Not being a big Streisand fan, I had no reply, bud did crack up when he would ape Streisand performing Melonella, with Bab's dramatic hands over face gestures and all.
they're all great though, really...

@stephenspry Hi there, good to hear from you my friend, sorry about
the shum65 appearing in the vids later on, the reason was many of my
videos were being uploaded by others as their work, so I added my name

about it, much appreciated, dont worry I intend to leave all these older videos
