Looks pretty dangerous for a tension test, Is there an ASTM standard for tension tests on wire ropes? The length of the specimen is quite large, I would hate to be within 3 feet of it during failure.

No, it is not hollow it is comprised of 7 wires sort of woven together. The ASTM standard associated with this material is ASTM A416
