Hoodoo is actually real. It involves spells and potions, but for protection, not for revenge. Gris Gris bags (probably what Renee wears around her neck) keeps things such as powders and stuff in them. Not to be confused with Voodoo, which can involve sacrificial techniques and blood rituals.

That doll is actually the "Naughty Tina" doll from "Nancy Drew and the Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon". It's a fun little Easter Egg that they put in this game.
