  • i am also protein sensitive

  • @Blackbarbietea did you lose some volume or thickness in your hair during your transition or stetch. Im in my fourth month post relaxer and I flatiron every two weeks I think my hair got thinner but everyone else says it hasn't. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Lol

  • LOVE yOUR HAiR

  • Love your hair. looks so healthy :)

  • Hi Nina, You are such an inspiration and teacher! Your hair is gorgeous.

I have decided to long term transition because of you. :-)

  • Can u do an update on what new products you are using ?!?!?

  • I just got done stretching for 7 monthes. Try doing braid outs...etc. and your hair isn't straightened. It starts breaking off REAL FAST.

The key to successful transitioning without a major BC is to keep the hair straight so the line of demarcation isn't gonna break off the relaxed ends.

  • @Blackbarbietea I read your comment about stretching for 7 months without straigtening your hair and it will break. I'm just at the beginning of my transition, barely 2 months past last relaxer so got a long way to go. I don't want to do a BC and I don't want to heat train either, always blow drying my hair so it can be straight. I've been doing wet styles, going from wet to braid outs mostly but my hair tangles. The relaxed hair is so fragile, no matter how gentle I am with it

  • @nancydrew5 Yeah, it gets complicated if you're trying to not do any heat because you have the two different textures battling each other. What I'm doing right now is taking nioxin vitamins, and garlic pills, and I'm washing and d/cing every 2weeks. but in between that time i flat iron my hair once, and for the rest of the two weeks I'm putting them on flex rods every night.

  • @Blackbarbietea

It's not my different textures battling each other that is the problem because I'm still very new to the transition and barely 2 months post relaxer. It's my ends. My relaxed ends do not like curly styles. I've tried braid outs twist outs flexi rods, I used coconut oils, conditioners, watched all kinds of videos you name it. My ends are still dry and brittle with these styles. But when I roller set, blow dry and flat iron, my ends are fine.

  • @Blackbarbietea

I think I will continue to wear 'relaxed hair styles while my hair is mostly relaxed, and as my natural hair grows longer, I will try the natural styles. I've learned that for me, trying natural styles on my relaxed hair doesn't really work. My ends get too dry, I get too many tangles, no matter how gentle. But as I transition longer, I'll try those styles and see how they go when I have more natural hair and less relaxed. I'm not doing a big chop.

  • Wow very beautiful/healthy hair. I'm a little past shoulder length but I hope to reach ur length by the end of 2012

  • I needed that. I got my last relaxer in September 2009 for my wedding. As of January of this year by stylist cut off the last remaining 3 inches of relaxed hair that I had. However, one half of my head is still really straight and it's upsetting me but you gave a good pep talk. Thanks.

  • how do u style ur hair on a daily basis

  • Wow your hair has grown alot ..... Such an insiration ! Keep it up. I'm glad you mentioned about the sew in because I was thinking of getting one for that reason. I'm still transitioning and trying to figure out my grade of hair. Thanks for the inspiration tho ... :-)

  • Hello Ms. Nina,

I've learned so much about hair care from watching your video's. My hair gets quite lenghty but its always so damage. For the most part I've always worked a wash and go but I didn't realize just cuz it was nauturally curly didn't mean that it was healthy. You've inspired me to take my time treating my hair with love and care. This year I want to see how long my hair will grow. My goal is past my arm pits while curly. I'm excited to see what my journy will be like. Thanks

  • Hey Nina how are you doing? I just wanted to know if your still using the JB Castor Oil?

  • You can use products with vegetable proteins if you are protein sensitive..you should try giovanni conditioners. Animal proteins are the ones ppl are sensitive to.

  • Whats ur hair type? And my hair is protein sensitive too!

  • @TooCuteDestiny 4a/4b curly & coarse

  • Nina, if I remember correctly, you stated in one of your videos that you washed your hair in 4 sections. How do you do that exactly? Do you braid your hair and take them down one braid at a time, then wash? Or do you leave them braided while washing? Please explain. My hair tangles VERY bad at times. Maybe this will help. Thanks in advance.

  • I just watched your bantu-knot out video from last year, and I agree the thickness of your hair now is amazing. Have you tried that style since then?

  • Your hair is beautiful! I'm working on my length and with proper care n and prayer I will achieve my goal :-)

  • Some women be tripping! I don't understand how SOMEONE can tell if she's a good mother or not by a YouTube video... a damn shame. Jealousy can make ppl say some incredible shit!.... smfh. Oh l love your hair gurl keep up the good work.... smoochies

  • Amazing!! Your hair has grown so much! Congrats. I can't wait to chat with you on Hairlista.

  • Nina i was wondering have u ever tried Megatek? Im trying it out now but i mix it with EVCO because it is alot of protien and so far it makes my hair very soft and the ng manageable...i will only use it at 3-4 week intervals because i don't want protein overload and when im not using it ima try the Kimmay leave in recipe....just wondering if u've used it and what ur experiences were like...i will keep u posted on my progress with the MT..and thanks again for your responses...HHJ

  • @misstinthehouse Hey girl. I have never tried MT....if ur hair is loving it, I say stick to it!

  • GO GIRL ! SO HAPPY FOR YOU !!!! XX

  • Good to see you :) You look beautiful and your hair is looking amazing! Happy Holidays to you and your family. Stay Blessed and Beautiful~

  • Are you using any product directly on your new growth/scalp on a daily basis? thumbs up!

  • @turner524 Thanks sweetie, no I don't apply anything to my scalp on a daily basis...I usually section my straight hair into 4 and lightly moisturize my hair & edges...our scalp produces oil naturally, so I don't worry too much about that.

  • Nina you are my inspiration with my hair journey. im a lil pass my shoulder and im praying to be ur length by 2012. Every product you try i run and get. Ive tried the one n only shampoo and the conditioner and the mask and the protein in the conditioner and mask are 2 much, so now i just bought the shea moisture products so im going try it n keep u posted. Thanks again!! BTW ur hair is beautiful. love it. i had 2 watch this video 5 times.lol

  • @BeautifulReflections Aww thanks sweetie!!! Please don't buy every product I use cause I like to experiment from time to time, I tend to get bored with using the same products lol! But the SheaMoisture Shampoo is definitely a keeper!

  • Hey Nina, thank u so much. i couldnt figure out y my hair was sheddin after the one n only condit and the mask. and i realize after this video that its 2 much protein for my hair. thanks. just got bk from target and invested in 100$ worth of shea moisture products. had 2 drive a hr away to get it.

  • Your doing a fantastic job with your hair. Transitioning is so hard, your like the poster child for the "Ideal" scenario. Im always amazed at how thick and full your ends look. Whatever your doing keep it up, cant wait to see how you look when you are all natural. Do you have a cut date?

  • @curlmebella Aww thanks Hun, I'm considering January 2012!

  • i really appreciate your videos....i am currently 4mos post relaxer and transitioning to natural. you make transitioning look so easy and i dont wanna hide my hair with braids or wigs. thank you

  • @nodiva10 Ur welcome sweetie, so glad my vids are helpful!

  • Sorry 1 more question....what heat protectant do u use? i want to straighten my hair but i want to protect it as much as possible....

  • @misstinthehouse I have 2, I use one or the other...fantasia heat protectant spray (pink bottle) is light on the hair and one n only Argan oil is a little heavier on the hair..so use it with a light hand.

  • also when u say u use EVCO as a moisturizer/sealant do u mean that thats the only thing u put on ur hair on a daily bases? because that's what i do and i just want to be sure that EVCO is sufficient enough...so far my hair feels soft and has shine and now weighted down....

  • @misstinthehouse Correct, sometimes I will just use oil and other times I may just use a water based moisturizer, I rarely ever use them both together anymore, this is what works for me.

  • Nina i really want to transition and thank u for saying that u don't have to wear braids cuz i like my hair down and i also like it straight too....i love EVCO its the only thing that my hair likes..the other moisturizers are too greasy/heavy...my question is how do i transition without all the shedding and breakage from the 2 diff textures??? btw ur hair is amazing and im so glad i found u on YT...keep up the good work :)

  • @misstinthehouse Thanks sweetie, staying consistent with my daily & weekly regimen has made my hair very healthy. Shedding is normal, so I don't stress about that. Moisture helps keep breakage to a minimum for me, also being very gentle with my hair at all times. You have to experiment with products to see what works best for your hair, once you find it...stick to it.

  • Thanx for this video..I have been lazy with trying to deal with my natural hair. I have in braids but when I take them out I will try to work on taking better care of my hair. Btw your hair is beautiful please keep keeping us posted.

  • Nina you are the best. I love watching your video updates because I learn something new each time. I wish I could transition. I'm a 18-20 week stretcher. Maybe I will transition one day. You give me inspiration.

  • Love your hair! I transitioned for 22 months :)

  • Omg, you are my inspiration! But I have a dandruff problem. Do you have any tips to get rid of the dandruff? Greets from Holland

  • Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous! I love it, especially the thickness of it!

  • I agree 100% I am completely natural but during my transition I covered up my hair with braids and weaves and when I was completely natural I had no idea what to do what my hair so I continued to cover it up and the result was a lot of breakage so now I probably will have to cut off 14 months worth of growth

  • Preach!!!!!!

  • Beautiful, beautiful and more beautiful - your hair rocks!! Thanx 4 sharing w/ us... :)

  • Hey, hon! The Flip Ultra HD is great! I just got it and I recommend it!

  • your hair is beautiful! Very nice progress.

  • You are really insperational ! You have a real simple regimen that's what i really like about you. I'm learning so from you that im ready to start my hair journey. I'm gonna textlax i see that texlax blends in better than bone straight when going natural. Please dont take down your videos . Keep up the journey ! Happy for you!

  • ur hair is look awesome and you honestly make me want too go natural.

  • Thanks for the update.....I'm currently 3 months post relaxer and I'm trying to transition to all natural. I'm so tempted to put a relaxer in, but I'm trying to stay strong. Any suggestions? Like you, I prefer to wear my hair straight.

  • woow. its so nice to see the progress!

  • Nina..How often do u flat iron ur hair?

Im transitioning also, jan will make me 1 year post

    SO i was just curious

  • Your hair is beautiful. Love the fullness of it. You do a darn good job taken care of it. I bc'd and Iove it. My hair was already short (but not as short as it is now). I couldn't take it. My hair is "overly curly". So, transitioning didn't go over well for me. When I was relaxing my hair, I dare not go past one month without touching up the new growth or my hair would break. I think if you are able to go a longer time without relaxing your hair then transition will work for you.

  • I've decided to go ahead & go natural as well... I am 10 weeks post relaxer & I will not do my Big Chop until May of Next yr. U have beautiful hair by the way!

  • You're probably tired of my comments by now, but quick Q...how do you do your eyebrows and can you please please please do a tutorial on that? mighty please :-)

  • I'm so sorry girl I think I hit that comment button one too many times. Please feel free to only leave one of the comments I just posted. LOL

  • OMG girl I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are such an inspiration to me and my hair. I'm no where near your level girl, but I'm working on it. Well right now my hair is in Kinky twist because I have always had a problem with breakage during the cold weather. Any tips on how to prevent that? Also my friend puts lots of oil in my hair before flat iron/hot combing it. Is that advisable? It lives my hair feeling heaving and very stiff, any advise on that? Thank you so much again for all you great videos

  • Thanks so much for showing us your progress. For me, it's a total inspiration. I've never thought about it before but I'm thinking of going natural now. From your videos, I can see a way of appreciating both textures. I'm currently 5 months post and I'm honestly loving the natural texture! I look forward to more updates in the future!!! :)

  • do you dye your hair or semipermanent rinse (black)??

  • Comment removed

  • I have a question: It seems like we have the same hair type & my hair is BSL. And I find it difficult to style & detangle me hair. Another thing we have in common is the months we have been transitioning. So if you could message me about how you style & detangle your hair that would be nice:-)

You can look at my videos to see my hair type!

  • Has your hair always been thick? If not; what did you use that helped you gain thickness? I have BSL - MBL hair but its thin and I hate it. I want to cut it off and start all over.

  • ALL I CAN SAY IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Your hair has always been gorgeous! :) I'm so lazy with my hair though...I don't moisturize everyday like I should, nor do I wash it every week like I'm suppose to...I gotta do better! I know that you now use Kimmaytube's leave in conditioner...I was wondering if you still use EVCO as well?? Also, have you found a new staple shampoo yet?

  • @arahsrat Thanx girl! I still use evco daily as a moisturizer/sealant. I was trying out two sulfate free shampoos...SheaMoisture Moisture Retention & One n Only Argan Oil Shampoo, I really like the SheaMoisture Shampoo so far!

  • @ninapruitt No prob! I'm in the process of trying to find a good shampoo...it's not easy! I will have to check out the ones that you've named! I'm also going to try and use Kimmay's leave-in recipe (soon as I find the Kinky Curly Not Today stuff)...I've heard such rave reviews about it.

  • @ninapruitt Where do u get the moisture retention from?

  • I looooooove your hair! So beautiful! :-)

  • Nina, as always you ROCK!!! Keep doing what you do, because it's very helpful!!!! Thank you:-)!

  • wow...love your hair........

  • The 1 person who disliked is a hater

  • @simplyB87 Lol...thanks girl!

  • @simplyB87 I agree!

  • ur hair is beautiful!!! it's awesome that u r transitioning w/out the bc. in doing so u've proven that relaxed AND natural hair can retain length with PROPER CARE.

  • @lorilovesartwork i also agree with what u said around 3:07 im 1yr into my transition & my hair is about the same length as urs & ive tried everything from cornrows & twist outs to flat ironing my hair. in this process ive learned a lot about both textures & garnered an appreciation for my natural hair as well. thanks 4 being transparent in ur vids they're very helpful.

  • GORGEOUS hair!

  • You make it look so easy...Gladyou have a regimen that works for you!

  • You kmae it look so easy...Gladyou have a regimen that works for you!

  • Wow Nina 16 months! Ur hair looks awesome girl! I'm actually 14 weeks post, setting a goal of 20 weeks. PLEASE cross your fingers for me! LOL! BUT i had not used heat on my hair for 7 weeks, finally flat ironed and was stunned at how much better my hair looks and the thickness is just amazing. Thanks for all the info you provide sweetie. TRULY making a difference in my journey. Thanks and God bless!

  • Hey Nina, love the hair, your is hair is beautiful..Just wanted to let u know that im also transitioning to natural w/o doing the BC, i also love my hair and see great results from me watching ur videos and using ur advice n techniques. My hair went from just pass shoulder length to BSL in just 7 months, i never seen this kind of length..so Thanks Nina ur videos have been very helpful :)

  • Thanks Nina. Glad to see that it is going so well for you. Your hair is so healthy and beautiful. . . keep up the good work and keep us posted.

  • Love It!

  • Very healthy long. What kind of heat protectant do you use. Thanks

  • Very healthy long

  • hey lady, your hair looks sooooo good. i wish i could transition into not dying my hair, lol. i'm told i dont look like i have 2 girls in college,so i will continue to dye. i guess i'll let it go someday, lol. i'm going to do a videa and dedicate it to u and all the other lovely ladies that have helped and encouraged me about hair, fashion and makeup. thanks girl

  • When I want my hair straight at 4 months post, I rollerset my hair, then just flat iron the new growth, wrap it up that night. Moisturize and seal then caruso in the morning. woot!

  • Hi =)

You are soo beautiful and your hair is too!

i just one question: do you do protective styles or do you wear your hair down most of the time?

b/c the all point of my HHJ is to wear my hair down (no wigs, weaves, etc), that's the reason I'm asking,

    thanks ^^

  • Great encouraging video.I am 9 month post have fallen of my regimen a little so hopefully will pick up again. :D

  • you're doing a great job nina!

  • awesome progress

  • First, you are a cutie! Second, can you point out where the natural part of your hair ends and the relaxed part begins? I want to see how far it has grown since you started transitioning. Lastly, can you post a side-by-side before and after picture of the length? It will serve as inspiration for those of us still trying to get it together. Thanks sweetie!

  • Hello my Hairlista sister! Thank you for saying that you are not afraid of heat. Some people just dont understand that if things are done carefully and in moderation it is ok. And your hair is stunning!

  • I needed this vid, thanks!

  • Beaaaaaaaaaaaautiful hair. I'm jealous! LOL, it's so cute how you say amazing.

  • @genuinephobia Lol...thanks sweetie : )

  • Beautiful Hair...I am a long term transitioner as well....

  • You do your hair beautiful... But I do have a question... Since transtioning to natural, have you been to the salon? I always wonder if beautician/stylist would know how to handle transitioning hair the right way.

  • @sweetfm2008 I haven't been to a salon in yrs..I could never gain length so I stop going. I don't think they would have enough patience to handle my hair lol!

  • @sweetfm2008 Basically, most salons who specified in relaxing wouldn't know what to do when it comes to transitioning. You would have to go to a salon that does natural and relaxed hairs, but I you will get better results when you do your own hair. Besides, it's free! LOL

  • @sweetfm2008 nooo they dnt a lady almost pulled my f-n brains out i almost cussed her out i think she was doing it on purpose she did not get a tip lol

  • ur hair is AMAZING...what kind of styling do u do??

  • @dymeshawty I wear braidouts often, straighten once a month and I wear bantu knot outs and flexi sets occasionally.

  • kinda annoying that everyone is transitioning

  • @whitemenaresexy If you don't mind me asking, why?

  • @MsChanteJ72 because of new people to hair journey might just be getting started and suddenly everyone they follow is going natural, which might confuse a newbie even more with what to do what not to do, but it's annoying mainly because it seems to be a movement now.

  • @whitemenaresexy ...her hair was perfectly fine relaxed.

  • @whitemenaresexy I think it's wonderful that more people are transitioning. It's a beautiful thing when people can accept and find their own kinky/curly textured hair BEAUTIFUL. :)

  • I looooove your hair. I'm only about 4 months into my transition but I'm loving the journey so far. I like the fact that you use heat on your hair when you want and you wear your hair down when you feel like it. I know for me I was worried about heat damage or wearing my hair down because of breakage but I wore my hair down all of November and I didn't have any problems. I can't wait to get to 16 months post only a year left lol. Keep up the good work you're my inspiration!

  • Nina your hair looks gorgeous.

  • you are so beautiful , great job and keep up the good work :)

  • looks great! Are you going to do the BC?

  • Thank you for that last message. I see so many ladies who do long transitions by hiding their hair or just constantly wearing a bun, so when they have fully natural hair they have no idea what to do with it. As a former natural who is long term transitioning back to natural I feel the same way you do. I wear my hair in various styles and I am not afraid of heat. Wishing you much success on your continued transition, your hair looks beautiful.

  • @FromShorttoLong Thank you so much, I really appreciate it :) Same to u sweetie!

  • your hair looks amazing, I wanted to ask you if you get split ends often?

  • @Kinsolving1 I get my ends trimmed every 3 mos, this helps keep my ends thick and healthy!

  • Your hair is gorgeous. I am thinking about transitioning but I want to make sure my regimen is where I want it and I am in tune with my hair's needs. However, you are inspiring.

  • Your progress is awesome

  • Hi congrats on the progress. Can you do a beginning to end update on the products you are using.

  • I love the fact that you still use heat freely. So many women here on YT rarely EVER use heat when on their hair journey and it's hard to take notes and learn. Im in college and Im always busy so I dont have time to do a bantu knot out or stuff that requires alot of drying time. I have to use heat sometimes ya know. Lol. Thanks, I love your hair, and your so helpful and sweet.

  • I mean...alot of people usually want to cut their hair off at a year because they get sick of the 2 textures, but yours is beautiful! lol i wouldn't even cut the perm off, some people just keep them!

  • wow your hair is truly amazing

  • you go girl!

  • Your is beautiful and it does look healthy!!! Keep doing what your doing. Take care and God bless!!! =D

  • wow your hair is very beautiful!!!!
