  • Which version of the work is this? Is it the 1911 suite or the 1919 suite?

    Thanks. Brilliant performance.

  • Perfect musicians, Virtuoso Condctor ....... Wonderful !!!

  • I play string bass in a symphony and I will tell you that the real work and relating to a conducting style takes place in rehearsal. Each conductor has his or her own style and it really doesn't matter whether they use a long stick, a toothpick or no stick. I find the toothpick distracting in that I've never played under a conductor that did this but the performance is a great one and I'm sure had I worked under Gergiev I would have adjusted and felt comfortable.

  • some conductors dont want to give the impression to be conducting too much, if at all, not for reasons of modesty, but its because the better an orchestra is the less it is/should be reliant on the conductor. take the berlin philharmonics, theyre utterly perfect at listening to one another as well as sharing and developing a common musical intention in a piece, they only need a conductor for impulses and of course it would look unconventional otherwise ;)

  • Why is he using the toothpick to conduct?
