HEY MAN IM REDOING MY MUSTANG,AND IM GETTING TO POINT WHERE I HAVE TO WELD..DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON DOING FLOOR PANS,AND QUATER PANEL..I NEVER WELDED BEFORE.LOL
Well I use a 240 amp mig welder. I do work on panels. No problem for me to weld a 1mm gap between panels without burning thru. It's all the matter of setting your welder, and you can use a backup plate from copper when doing butt welds
Don't mess with the Harbor Freight type wire welder crap. Ok, MiG welding stands for Metal Inert Gas. Unless the welder you have or buy has a gas bottle connected with C02 or Argon/C02 mix, you are simply working with a "wire fed welder."
Wire welders use flux core wire, somewhat like is done with soldering wire. Think about trying to solder with flux wire. It's messy and it really doesn't work all that great. Same thing with wire welding.
your an idiot. Wire welder means a welder that pass wire through is to to join steel. Now a mig welding with gas and a flux core welder are both wire welder
@pyro8818ak47 What a poor excuse of a human being, ridicluing someone that is trying to help others, where are all your hints and Vids? none, no wonder.
Dude, don't tell me that. I just bought the Easy Mig 100 to do patch panels. It's a 90 amp machine. I am jut starting to practice with various thicknesses of steel. Did you ever get an answer to your question?
I have found a couple of tricks that help with the Easy Mig 100. First, buy wire from Lincoln or some other name brand manufacturer. Also, you may want to buy wire in a smaller diameter for sheet steel or body panels. Second, You have to work real slow. It does weld the hell out of heavier steel 1/8" and up. This should work for the patch panels I will be putting on my car. How's the Lincoln welder working and how much did you pay for it?
WeIl it depends from couple of factors.. Your amp setting, wire speed, type of weld you're doing, gun travel speed.
If working on car sheet metal DON"T do straight beads, just tack weld. If the metal is getting red it's flowing and acting like water drops, that's wwhy you're burning thru. cool down your welds with a blastoing gun conected to your air compressor.. Practice, practice practice.. G luck
What wheel are you using on the cutter? Do you have to go slow so the heat doesn't warp the metal? Great video! Thanks for taking your time to do it. Subscribed!
it is a 1/16 in thick cut off wheel. You dont have to worry about heat as it cuts slower than you could ever heat the metal to warp. thanks for your comments.
overlap weld ,you will be doing that over again ,when water and etc get into that overlapping joint...that is a big NO NO

Oh yeah, 90 amp is way too high to be welding auto body panels. You should be down in the 25 to 40 amp range.

I have a 90 amp 110 mig welder from Harbour Freight and it burns through the metal on the lowest setting. Why does this happen?

No I didn't get an answer.but I did realize it was a shitty welder.I bought a Lincoln Handy Mig instead

so u basically butt weld the two pieces together and leave a gap? you dont overlap the two pieces and drilled holes to plug weld them? thanks

I am new to this. When welding in patch panels will a simple 110v mig welder do the trick? And is there a preference between gas or wire?
JB403yea 3 years ago
Definately use gas w/110V welder.
