I can't believe this video in on YouTube. This was during pilot quals aboard the John F Kennedy (CV-67) before our 97 Med cruise. The F-18 is a Charlie series from our sister squadron VFA-15. The pilot made one too many adjustment and landed sideways causing the port strut to collapse Luckily the hook caught the 4 wire. Those are two of our (VFA-87) F-18s in line for the bow cats that he was heading straight for. I was in vulture row and saw this live. I miss Carrier life!!!!!
Thanks for your comments unfortunely some of your terminology words like the vulture row i dont understand .Australia does not have a carrier any more but i love to watch documentaries about aircraft carriers.The life on board the small city must have been something else.Cheers from an ausi alias .we will soon order the new super hornets to replace our f111 bombers .
Vulture row is a look out area up on the center island of the carrier. It allows non-flight deck personnel to watch the aircraft lunch and recover from a safe spot. On the John F. Kennedy it would of been two decks above where the second camera on this video was.
Me thinks several of the deck crew were also looking for fresh underwear after that landing as well. Bet the seat cushion on the F 18 had some pucker marks.
wow that right wing almost chopped some heads!!!

"Looks off to me..."
WTF...why didn't they waive him off?

@gbonkers666 they'll just blame the pilot ;)

It's a damn good thing he stayed on that arresting cable. It would have been much worse otherwise.

Considering everything...that was a lucky landing.

didn't the guy at the beginning say "it looks off to me" ? looks like the pilot swerved the plane to his right at the last second.

So you think the pilots pants where clean after that?
nezy37 3 years ago 3
possibly his pants had to be discarted right after the landing.
