@blakeliger0831 GaoGaiGar's de-fusion process is done manually with the help of cranes and whatnot back at HQ, if I recall correctly. It's shown once at the end of ep 1, (maybe once more in a later episode) and it's only a few seconds long. Absolutely uninteresting, really :/
@ZXChannelStudios I found it interesting ;_; I mean, yes, it doesn't earn a repeat every episode like Final Fusion, but I enjoyed seeing the menial yet involved process of carefully separating and recovering GaoGaiGar's components. It's the Dirty Jobs portion of the show :D . Sure, they had the "omg Guy is dying or something GET HIM OUT QUICK" business going on but whatever.
@Pra5286 Nobody cares how some buttslave teenage chav says anything, you snivelling pUKe. Enjoy your fake friends from 4chan, 'cuz they'll be the only ones an asstard like you ever has.
@LolRaptor lol, "chav". 4chan and friends in the same sentance made me lol. Ah, I'm sure the general population of 4chan aren't chavs so, thats a silly response.
@KdogPrime Probably based the card art on the older Yuusha series that had come out before Gaogaigar and were hugely popular which is why the card looks like Big Volffog did a gattai with Liner Gao, Stealth Gao and Drill Gao.
come to think of it, why do all the mecha from mecha animes ( putting aside gundam, those gettai mechas) always have a crystal of some sort somewhere?
i remember loving this show that i bought the robot thingy majigs but i onyl knew the 1st robot with the train and drill and jet thingy and the hammer with the screw driver and 4 years later when i turned 7 it becoem popular again
actually in episode 2 or 3 (i don't remember) the zonder entered the tornado but gaigar wore drill gao in his hands to drive the zonder away and continue with the final fusion
Yes, yes it is a bullet train. To be more specific, it's modeled after the Japanese 500-series Shinkansen high speed train, which was put into regular service a month after GaoGaiGar first aired in Japan. That means in 1997, people in Japan got to ride GaoGaiGar's shoulders from place to place.
Uhm, just a bit of silly info, but the tornado-effect is supposed to be an electromagnetic barrier that the geo machines can break through, but nary another thing.
That's right, Noboyuki Hiyama was the voice of Gai Shishio and Link, but they dropped Hiyama in favor of someone with a deeper voice for Twilight Princess.
Good thing Madarame from The Genshiken has the Triforce and G-stone now.
The huge tornado it generates is a cool touch, I often find it weird how the bad guys in super robot anime never attack the main characters when they're busy transforming/combining, but in GGG it's because they can't.
It's cheesy. It's bombastic. It's over-the-top dramatic. It's ridiculous. And dammit, it's AWESOME. I can't think of any gattai sequences that are this good.
Side notes: A) What episode is this from? B) Despite the fact that GaoGaiGar has a much more epic gattai, I still have to give the overall coolness edge to Gurren Lagann.
Not every episode has the sequence, actually (just most of them), and the exact length varies as well (the authorization, for instance, is occasionally omitted). Some, like episode 1, intersperse other scenes as well, and once or twice there's been stuff like the legs failing to join with DrillGao accurately on the first try. So I was wondering which episode this particular clip was taken from.
This was always my favourite part of any episode. Tiger's hot-blooded call to battle, the "KTTSSHHH-SHHH" sound of the various Gao Machines locking into place, the dynamic view of sparks flying as Liner Gao shoots through GaiGar's shoulders, the triumphant overture playing over it all more gloriously than all the orchestras and choirs of heaven itself...
All of it serves as an evocative, almost hypnotic command towards the child-like enthrallment one experienced in days gone by.
The best part about Super Robot shows is the stock footage. They show the most awesome scenes over, and over, and over again, and they never get old. Final Fusion... Approved!
You know stock footage is done right when it doesn't become old- it becomes iconic. Final Fusion is damn well one of the most iconic sequences from this, the most courageous series ever.
@ArkRiley True. This never gets old, GaoGaiGar is one of the most iconic series ever made and lot of later series pay homenage to it in some way or another: Nanoha Strike Witches, Hayate no Gotoku, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Gaiking Leyend of Daiku Maryu, and the list is long....
Gundam is alright, though it's VERY different from Golion/Voltron or GaoGaiGar. In short, Gundam shows tend to be more gritty war shows, with mecha used as soldiers rather than shining warriors of justice, and good and evil are rarely if ever outright defined. GaoGaiGar, on the other hand, is the exact opposite - the good guys are courageous heroes defending humanity from the twisted threat of very evil bad guys.
Pazder knowingly inflicts harms on human beings without the slightest bit of remorse. While he doesn't do it for the sake of doing it, he certainly doesn't have any moral qualms about it. No purely evil, perhaps, but I'd say he veers more towards evil than neutral.
Well, I have never been into Anime. But, I did pick up the Voltron dvd a week ago. I reamber watching that all the time as a kid. Would Gaogaigar be worth checking out if I like Voltron? I also hear that Gundam is good and that Gundamwing is a great show. What do you all think?
Gundam's been mentioned - but it's a big franchise, lot there to pick from.
But if you like Voltron - you'll like Gaogaigar. The King of Braves is very much a spiritual successor of 70s/early 80s super robots - of heroes fighting bravely against dire evil and coming through thanks to sheer courage and perseverence.

Sparkbomber 3 years ago 5
Incidentally, the electromagnetic barrier is the same as the one that is used during Hell and Heaven- hence the 'Ultimate Offense and Defense'.
Still, it's a nice touch ; ). Most giant robots don't take time out to think of a way to keep the enemy from interrupting the combination.
ArkRiley 2 years ago 6
That's because Gaogaigar is one of the few shows with enemies capable of interrupting the hero's combination.
