Hey I was wondering what v8's fit in there? Do Chevy and ford engines fit or only Pontiac, because now that they are out of business it is hard to find.
Thats one of the nicer fieros I've seen on youtube so far! I just bought an 86 se, I can't tell you how happy I am with it! I'm trying to find other fiero owners around nc to start a little fiero club but, no luck... lol I've got a short video up here.
sorry it's not in Vancouver. Those comments were from a trip last year when I visited some other Fiero owners in Surrey BC. Heading up there again next weekend. Talk to Capt Fiero WCF
where in Vancouver did you say this sweet ride was parked again? ive been driving all around looking for it to no avail!! lol kidding, 86 SE w/4speed. love the body work just a lil concerned at how much that kit would cost
does anyone kno were i can get a good body kit iv looked an looked but cant find a decent one...im rebuilding my fiero...3.4L(turbo) or 3.8SC, ill throw a before and after vid up sooner or later....
@thomasmcmullen06 If you get the right kit from Archie it will cost you but still be pretty easy. I have seen many installed and the owners are usually happy.
Im just waiting for the money to come my way and a decent 86to88 GT and ill have myself the only 6.2 Deisel Fiero out there. gobs of power and the uniqueness!
hello to all fiero member what do i need to replace my engine to v8 i like to run my car like you im in bremerton washington thier is any place here to go and bring my fiero over and how much do i need to spend thank you or email me my email ederhan@yahoo.com thank you all
That has to be the best looking and sounding Fiero, I have seen. If you ever need a performance clutch & aluminum flywheel holler at us at SPEC Clutches & Flywheels
The off-throttle growl of this little Fiero boggles the mind. I would give my left testical for a little baby like this! :D Sounds and looks fan-bleeding-tastic.
Four Point Nine...I am "Ditkaphile" on PFF. Always loved this car, your bodywork is awesome, and that Caddy engine sounds TOUGH!!! And who woulda thunk that Z28 spoiler would look so good on our cars...it fits perfectly!!! BRAVO!!!!!
Yes, the guy who runs the Fiero club in Vancouver, Canada has a 4.9 Caddy as well, they're amazingly close to the 2.8L in terms of fit. Great sound, less weight and more power are welcome details too. =P
since youre on the fiero forums then im sure you know of derrick....he lives here in TN, has a ws6 t/a, red 3800sc swapped fiero and a white GT fiero. hes a good friend of mine and ive heard him talk a lot about the fiero club hes in...his red car is nasty tho.
Looks and sounds great, but why the 4.9? Its got the same power as an N/A 3.8L V6 which isn't too amazing, is it easier to install than a Northstar or L67?
The 4.9 fit my requirements. I like to autocross so a very torquey light motor was the goal. It's also cheap and easy to install. If I wanted to drag I do the 3800SC due to it's performance potential (but it does weigh more) . The Northstar is cool but cost more and would be more of a challenge to install.
The engine is stock. I just want it to be reliable. It did 200 at the wheels on the dyno. The paint was spendy. I don't really know what the total spent was. I started with a $280 car that did not run but only had 80K on it. So I'm sure I spent more on my used Suburban. :)
Well, reliability is there, this engine definitely has reliability going for it, and 200 is what it made from the factory, so its still going strong then, and DAAAM!!! only 280 for it, well hell, nice build!
hey where did u find dat body kit and how did u make da mounts cuz i got an 86' fiero wit a 4cyl dat i want to convert. it would be a great help if u can help me out
The fieroaddiction website has good pictures of the mounts. He was selling them. I made the body kit myself. Everything you need to know about the swap is on Pennocks Fiero Forum, use the search.
Your car is still my favorite body kit Fiero, and it looks even better in person! I enjoyed meeting you and your wife at the N.W.F.F. last August, and hope you can make it next year again. I hope to have my car ready to enter then. Have you started on your wife's Fiero yet? I'm anxious to see how it turns out! Thanks for all the pics and threads...I really have enjoyed looking at them.
Thanks Hypo, I had to replace the auto trans in my GT and do a clutch on the blue 4cyl coupe. I have a Quad4HO and the 3.4DOHC but haven't had the funds nor the free time to start a swap. I would also like to do a custom dash with aftermarket gauges. We do plan on doing the picnic and fest next year.
Not sure how much $, the paint job and custom body kit was the big cost. The engine swap does not need a kit. I made the motor mounts, bought the flywheel and wiring harness new. Search Pennock's Fiero Forum for 4.9. Tons of build threads on there with everything you need to know.
im not sure exactly i know its one of the most difficult to do on a fiero... im going for a 3800SC because they are easy, cheap, and make tons of power.... im sure you could find a good write up on pennock's fiero forum, there are alot of nice helpful guys on there, some of which make or have parts made for swaps like this and sell them through the forum... west coast fiero sells alot of conversion stuff, you could probably find most of what you need there, check under the engine conversion tab
I've heard the 4.9 is an easy swap, you're thinking of the Northstar I think. I just bought a 4.9 off ebay yesterday, but the West Coast Fiero guys never finished the 4.9 page. I'm on PFF too, same name as here.
sorry i was thinking of the 4.6 northstar conversion.... i would assume that the 4.9 wouldn't be any easier... i have not actually researched this swap...
Centerforce makes a clutch for the swap, it may not be in the catalog or it may be the same as the V8archie clutch. call them. Ed Parks uses Centerforce in all his 4.9 manual swaps.
Actually I think that's unfair to the dirtbikes. A four-stroke 250 sounds worlds better than an outdated 50hp, 200k mil four cylinder Honda Civic from the 80s with a massive exhaust held on with zip ties.
thats a nice lookin Fiero what body kit is that you have on it? I've looked for nice clean kits but all I've found were some shity overpriced ricer lookin ones.
Amen on that one they claim that low demand and poor sales was the reason the fiero was written off. heres the real reason the fiero outsold the corvette thats the real reason gm killed it
the corvette has always been GMs baby they took horsepower out of the firebirds of some years because they thought they might be faster than the vettes.
Well they arent called corvette killers for nothing. Is it me or what but it seems everytime a threatcomes to the corvette it is a pontiac. They couldve done away with the camaro instead
everyone sees these beautiful builds and then posts " i want one' if onlly pontiac saw that everyone loved them and kept them on the market a few more years, and though the stock motors are under powered....that doesnt mean those of us who fancy ourselves as hotrodders cant make them overpowered :D (85 fiero GT on the build block hope to show you guys soon)
supercharger ummm... external oil pump boar out the pistons and put a high performance cam and a super duke head. and upgrade ALL the bolts on the block... it is allot of work. did not count on the water pump failing and the engine overheating and then cracking :(
Nice, I'm just wondering why you didn't go with the SC 3.8L V6 with WAY more power, or the 3.4L DOHC with about the same power, was it just to say that you had a "V8"? LOL
I have a 85 fiero gt and i am planing a v8 swap, but....What do you do with the tranmition? is the stock auto strong enough or should a guy be lookin for a manual trans to put in the car?
It was very nice meet you and your Dad. It'll be a ton of fun working on your Fiero with your Dad. Green with a silver stripe sounds cool, can't wait to see it !
Help, My fiero(87,se,4cyl,stock) get's up to about 190 degrees operating temp. When I shut off the car it wont start until it cools down to about 180-185. I have power but the motor wont turn, This occurs ever time I turn off the vehical. Any fiero enthusaist/tech want to give me there 2 cents I would apperaciate it. Thanks
Nice Fiero notchback, the best looking I've seen. Love the new style bumpers, rockers (side skirts), and Camaro wing... look awasome. You need a video of your interior. I'd love to do one just like that with an Ecotec engine swap. I'm thinking light weight.
sweet car man..i got a 87 fiero gt that im modifying...it only has 80k on the tach...currently looking for some kind of kit and the right rims...yours is way cooler
3800SCII is a iron block and weighs more. I like the 3800SCII also and would like to have one in my daily driver ('87 GT auto trans) The 4.9 is fast off the line and light, just right for auto crossing.
looks and sounds awesome.

Too bad the filming was so bad we didn't get to actually see it accelerate away from the camera. Nice job on the car BTW. That' rocks.

How exactly is the transmission end handled in one of these swaps?
I don't think the stock trans could handle a V8 and the bell housing wouldn't match.
Membrane556 3 years ago
Caddy V8s bolt right up.
fourpoint9 3 years ago
it bolts right on to the stock tranny??
jsaulgodoy 3 years ago
Yes it bolts up to the stock Fiero trans

Help, My fiero(87,se,4cyl,stock) get's up to about 190 degrees operating temp. When I shut off the car it wont start until it cools down to about 180-185. I have power but the motor wont turn, This occurs ever time I turn off the vehical. Any fiero enthusaist/tech want to give me there 2 cents I would apperaciate it. Thanks

You need a new starter and a heat shield wrap for the starter.
fourpoint9 3 years ago
What's the exhaust setup like... sounds nice. I want to redo the one on my V8 Fiero. Yours has a nice smooth Borla-like tone which I like.

I've read your build on Pennocks. Your car is quite amazing and looks fabulous. Congrats on a great build.

Nice Fiero notchback, the best looking I've seen. Love the new style bumpers, rockers (side skirts), and Camaro wing... look awasome. You need a video of your interior. I'd love to do one just like that with an Ecotec engine swap. I'm thinking light weight.

Nice Fiero. I have one that I plan on doing a 4.9 swap on. What do you have for an exhaust?

It's nice.....but I always think a GT is a much better looking car for a V8 swap.....

GTs are nice too. But there are a lot of nice ones and a nice notchie can stand out in a crowd.
fourpoint9 4 years ago
i like the sound of th 4.9's but the 3800sc has more hp thats y i got one
TheHudson22 4 years ago
3800SCII is a iron block and weighs more. I like the 3800SCII also and would like to have one in my daily driver ('87 GT auto trans) The 4.9 is fast off the line and light, just right for auto crossing.
