  • Er, clearly the person who uploaded this video has no idea what fenland looks like.

  • Beautiful music but what a terrible choice of a picture supposedly representing the Fens. More like Cumbria or West Yorkshire. Please change it.

  • There are some unbelievably beautiful sections in this piece.

  • Who is conducting this?

  • @Bioniking Unfortunately I don't know. This recording just dropped out of my collection of unknown artist mp3s. :(

  • @Epogdous I am not sure, but it might be Neville Marriner.

  • @Bioniking It's the recording with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields - Sir Neville Marriner conducting.

  • The landscape in the photo is heavenly beautiful. I almost wept when I saw it. I've lived in desert most of my life.

  • @kolobite I'm glad that you appreciated it. Just out of curiosity, may I ask you which desert are you referring to?

  • @Epogdous

Born in Arizona, presently living in Utah. Arizona possibly conjures up images. Utah is a cold desert.

  • @Epogdous Ciao, amico italiano!

  • Poignant and evocative.

  • I remember the photo being of a Cambridgeshire landscape but I can't say more. I wish I'll be there someday to take a picture my self!! ^^'

  • It's a shame the photos aren't of the fens. far to hilly ;)

  • @TheCat0500 You are so right. The photo is nothing like the Fens....,However, the Fenland has its own charm no doubt, The music certainly does. I remember the area from "evacuee" days,,,back in the 1940's.

  • Nobody does it like RVW. Every time I hear his music I get goosebumps.

  • I live in East Anglia, just on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens. This piece of music is so evocative of the landscape. VW's ability to put the listener in the landscape never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for putting this music on YT.

  • @TK42138 I live in north Kent and this music is evocative of ANY flat, wet landscape.

  • @gaspode18

I guess you're right. The Somerset Levels would also apply. According to a biography he toured the country collecting folk songs and the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk Fens featured strongly.

  • thanks for posting this video! - IN THE FEN COUNTRY is my favorite Vaughn-Williams' piece - I luv every note :o)
