i have an army jacket i got from a rummage sale that says arnold and norwich on it with a patch that says norwich 1819 "twill try" so i looked it up and got this
HUH!!! How can I describe this without street names? Sitting in the drive of the Backus Hospital waiting for the light. Norwichtown Mall + McDonalds is down the slope to the left, Norwich center is to the right. Go across the traffic light and up the hill towards the college... The very first house on the right has red clapboard siding. According to my old history professor at Mohegan(Terry Enos) THAT red house was Bennedict Arnold's home.
I think you're thinking of the Lathrop House further north on Washington St...That's where Arnold lived as a teenager while he was an apprentice apothecary with his mother's cousins, the Lathrops. I'm going to post some shots of that house(a red colonial)soon
I think you're right. I just pulled up Norwichtown Mall on MapQuest to refresh my memory. I hadn't been up there since my brother's funeral in 2001. It sat almost on the corner of Washington and Rt 169 (Harland Rd). It was dark red w/narrow wooden clapboard siding. The History Channel just did a great vindication of Benedict Arnold. It was the first factual video I've seen since Terry Enos's class at Mohegan. It even showed how the governor of PA forced him into treason by not clearing the false
...not clearing the older (false) treason charges that were put against him when he acted as a double agent. It was a great show!!! They showed how George Washington was trying to clear Arnold's name so he could put him in command of half of the US Army. But, the gov of PA really hated Arnold + refused to give up the evidence to clear him. By the time they could clear his name he gave the French all the layout maps of Fort Arnold + the defenses there.(Now West Point)SORRY didn't mean to preach.
Sorry, Surveybuddybob, but you're thinking like a surveyor again. This is the right spot. Check out the clip titled "Benedict Arnold - Plaque At Norwich Birthplace" for official confirmation. I also talked to Mike, the owner, who was born about 200 yards away at Backus Memorial, and he was quite familiar with Arnold's connection to this property. He said people come by to look at the house every few months, sometimes in small groups.
Hi Backus! Life Star flies over my house all the time, annoying as hell.

I used to run into Benedict Arnold all the time at the Mohegan Sun. He was a helluva blackjack player.

That was indeed where the Benedict Arnold house stood. The original home burned down, and a modular home was built in its place.
