I saw him live early '90s when his career was in a nosedive. It was in a sports hall at Milton Keynes college, just a couple of hundred people. Tiny venue, cheap tickets. Having been a huge fan in early '80s i was dreading a poor performance from a burned out former star in decline. Guess what? He was fantastic. Slick, professional, engaging and giving his all. A brilliant performance. I was stunned and very, very impressed.
@1RadNomad You've no idea what I would have given to see the man. To my knowledge he never played the US, not surprising to me, actually. 2011, offer serious money I would.
@stbaptiste78 greetings from Malaysia....i hv been listening to it since its release in 1980 #1 in UK....32 years and still going stronger by the day......
bin a " numanoid" since " are friends" used too get chased all over leeds/bradford for looking weird but we felt proud and still do today... so all you stiffs, squares, dressers, gay bashers out there FUCK YOU
saw lots of GARY NUMAN shows in the eighties..Wembley, Tottenham Ct Rd, Hammersmith and I remember him GYRATING in a glass cage, can you imagine! PURE MAGIC NOTHING LIKE IT!
This seems different than the version on my album. The notes seem slightly lower in part and other sounds seem more distinct. Is this from a remastered cd or something ?
What has always bothered me about this song is that it fades out just as it starts getting going. I would really like to hear it all the way to the end of the recording. I wonder if the tapes exist.
Love the tone of that sawing violin-- very pure. Great mix of acoustic piano and synths too. It was a great song to end the album, bittersweet emptiness.
I agree with the comments, they were such big, bold songs well thought out, executed and arranged, from melancholy to mischevious and the outro to this always sounds like the end of a film,an era, or a life with flashbacks, bittersweet stuff.
@arrowz12 dude ive screamed it for years..... like motzart he was not afraid to use and play with sound regardness of what others thought... the comp of his work is absolutely like the masters of old
Well, if I was an internet meme freak, I'd say... "IT'S OVER 9000!!!". But I'm not an internet meme freak. So I'll say what says on Wikipedia: more than 100 000 copies.
For an album that begins with the lyrics "And what if God's dead..." and concludes with the confession "...all I find is a reason to die", Telekon is the utmost soul stirring, mind-bending, emotion-laden musical experience that a person could ever encounter.
Such an amazing song to cap off one of the best albums of all time.
Gary Numan sings with profound imagery and soul! I love how a new generation are discovering his music. My kids are discovering his music today and also agree That Gary Numan's music is brilliant!
This was the best song on Telekon and yes this is the best song to ever hear him play live, go find the Living Ornaments 81 version and you'll see why.
I lvoe seeing him play this song live, it's one of the best songs he ever has performed. I think on Living Ornaments 81 it had Nash the Slash with him on this track.
pure class,end of.........dmt

Guys a lot of the work was done by Chris Payne and Dennis haynes both are classically trained. Both Played on this album and helped with arrangement.
Gary had the rough idea, but the boys put it all together.
The original band was one of the most versatile and gifted he ever had.
now he relies mostly Ade Orange and that idiot Ade Fenton(he cant play a note)
and one session player after another.which means crap input!

After listening to Telekon, you realize that Gary Numan was really a "classical" composer using modern-day instruments (synthesizers).

How many sales has Telekon sold up to now?
hyperdriveguitar 2 years ago
I have no clue how many, but it is one of his top selling albums, still to this day.
Pleasure Principle, Telekon, Replicas, and Dance. Those are the top 4 selling Numan albums.
