If your looking for a car that you could use we have an 88 Imperial that we cant use in any derby around were i live, would you be interested in buying it, its already gutted and got some safety measures in it, we've got the fenders curled for wheel clearance, doors have spots for 9 wire and the crush bar welded in place

@balancingviking Is it? I use to live in nelsonville and went when they had one but moved a little far away from the area to go. I remeber one year there was a fight in the middle of the arena with cars still going.

built motors are fun....that being said, I can set up a 302 that I can run for a solid 30 minutes without losing power, and without going terminal without a single drop of water in it. Reliability wins derbies. I don't care what brand of motor a guy runs, as long as it'll bang all night.

Hankybillfred sorry but ill take my built 350 up against your 302 any day ill beat your car into the wall an keep you there because your lil 302 can't get away from me because you don't have any power ill beat on you the hole derby

not bad at all. the choke ISNT needed. on derby cars. usually only needed in cold weather. or an engine not in too good a shape mechanically

Go 350 motors in those ford cars with a turbo 350/or 400 trans with a bolt on yoke than run all ford 9 inch rearends. That way you can build a slider shaft!(DRIVE SHAFT)

@hankeybillfred I'm NOT a GM guy! BUT I know what works after doing the demo SPORT for 15 + years you know how you got to go to stay competitive! A built 350 LOOSE and you can run it with out any water for a whole heat with out a problem! Plus 350 rebuilt kit's and parts are plentyfull so that means low cost ! I'm 100 % sure if you were to try to build a ford motor you will spend twice the money for the same power!!

@wreckingcars72 Whoever said you build the motor? Shit, in demo derby, you are supposed to go find a running motor, the 302 ford being so narrow, it leaves more room for side hits without killing your motor.

Building a motor is meant for power, which is racing.

Derby is meant for endurance, which is where you want something with a thick casting, like a Ford FE, or a 302.
