  • Same with RARE EARTH , Already Had Pad Down - ANTI ONE WORLD GOV., SURVEILLANCE OF OUR EVERY MOVE , THEY WERE NOT SOCIALIST COMMUNIST , for That what Big BROTHER WAS TO THE RUSSIANS ( USSR ) Soviet Block , OR THE NAZZI PARTY TO THE GERMANS and everybody ELSE THEY CONQUERED , and WE DID NOT WANT IT HERE , Not then NOT NOW , ALL THE BIG WIGS IN WA., D.C. Wanted IT and We all NEW IT , They didn't WANTED THEN , This thing goes all the way back to The Pilgrims , they went out of it , it continued th

  • Ha! I was there, dancing naked as usual...

  • Did Mike live in Michigan after being in the band? I thought my dad worked with him. Just curious?

  • That's my close friend on bass.

And he still plays great See you at NAMM Mike

  • The Best Band in The World

  • Mr. Peter Rivera is my biggest musical hero and was cool enough to give me his drumsticks after a show in Hazard Ky. What a cool dude and a living legend! Peace, love and Happiness, Leo Chamberlain

  • I was at this particular concert, where Rare Earth played 1st@ 10am. This was the "California Jam", Ontario Motor Speedway, April of 1974. The concert lasted all day, into the night.......ELP closed it........

I've Rare Earth many fucking times, & everytime, 'STELLAR'!!! Even met Peter, once. Love it ! ! ! ! "THANX"!!!

  • ladycristine that was in MIAMI, the best was big brother,I born with RARE EARH inCUBA,good memories,I love USA

  • peace, love and happiness...... :D lets shake it!!!!!!!

  • They weren't at Woodstock and I do have a cassette of that concert, Lady. It's a Greatest Hits one; look for it. Great live performance of this.

  • Does anyone know if they played at Woodstock? I seem to remember a version, when they told the people to get out of the water, they had wires and things running thru the water and they didn't want anybody to get shocked...I will never forget that. Those were the days! I lived about 2 hours away and my parents wouldn't let me go...I was so disappointed. Now I have grandchildren. How time flies!

  • Lady, you're thinking of the Rare Earth Live album. The cover looked like a canvas backpack. I had it when I was a kid, I remember that part you're talking about.

  • i WORE that album out!! tried finding it on cd & am befuddled somebody hasn't issued it...the closest is 20th century masters-rare earth...21 min. version of get ready!!!!!

  • I always thought that extended-intro on he live version dragged on a bit... Eventually I learned exactly where to drop the needle to where it kicked-in to the "regular" part.

  • no that was not woodstock i was in the concert in miami marine stadium 1971 they play get ready 21 minutes i was 14 years old

  • I think it was in Miami...believe it or not, after listening to this album and reading the liner notes back when the backpack album was recorded...Nixon had a rally in the same place RE had recorded with Sammy Davis Jr. on the TV...the Press made a big deal about the venue...and I could see the pool of water they were talking about...

  • Ha yes they did actually he lives in spokane WA now and his new band played at our park it was insane. I got there like 4 hours before it started and he came down and introduced himself and i have that live album they recorded at woodstock "rare earth in concert" and he was telling me stories of when he was going to tell people to get off the wires but he didn't want to then had his friend or something do it. So he signed my album and omgosh it was just so awesome!! ....

  • njce sound

  • brings back memories,Great stuff!!!don...

  • Had these guys on eight track! One of my all time fav's!

  • Who's the guitar player? I saw this when it first aired back in 74. I was in high school and I was a huge Jimi fan. I was impressed with this guy's playing style and I especially liked his low, tremolo bar (a/k/a whammy bar) dip at 5:44. (I just realized that I last heard it 34 freakin' years ago and it stayed with me all this time....wow...) At that time my ears perked right up: "He's using his tremolo bar! Just like Jimi! Cool!" (Hey, I was 16 years old.......cut me some slack.....;-)

  • Guitar player was Ray Monette, also played w/ Dennis Coffey, Meatloaf & The Funk Brothers. I saw Rare Earth in '72 w/ Coffey, the Chi-Lites & others. Monette played the ENTIRE set w/ Coffey, then RE burned the housed down. Rivera went down into the crowd with a snare drum. The crowd didn't want them to quit, but Chi-Lites were the headliners. House lights came on & Monette soloed while RE's equiment was being torn down. Rivera finally pulled the plug on Monette's strat & the crowd went nuts.

  • Now that was a true guitar legend in the making!!!

  • I'll never forget this concert! I left Laguna Hills in the middle of the night and got to Ontario just as the sun was coming up. The tickets were $15.00 if I remember correctly. From the back of the crowd I made my way to the front by the stage and found my friend Bob Greco out of 200,000 concert goers. Seeing the Eagles in 1974 was really something. Had to hitch-hike all the way back to Laguna Hills. I couldn't make it to Woodstock, but this was the next best thing!

  • Great ! Isn't the California Jam '74 available on dvd ?????. Any idea about RE live videos from these days (NOT the new onces from the 2000s)

  • this was the best party band ever

  • Oh, now I feel stupid. That organ part I longed for in my former comment is

there, it's just almost completely buried in the mix and drastically

shortened. And the faster tempo feels like it's happening because they're

rushing through the song. Love Rare Earth, love this song, but don't like

this version at all. Glad I wasn't there.

  • I love this band, but it's stunning to learn that they didn't understand that the best part of this song was the dramatic slow-build introduction with the long sustained organ notes - the one that was brilliantly immortalized on the multi-million selling "Rare Earth In Concert" album, & in a slightly shorter form on the Top 20 single. This chops that crucial & thrilling part completely out of the song, killing the build-up that made it so great. At least it's back when Pete performs it nowadays.

  • Great bass player!

  • Pete Rivera. Period.

  • yep, CalJam I, also on bill, Black Sabbath; Ozzy's 1st time in states, Purple Heart and of course Deep Purple.... wow

  • They teach us what is life

  • Awesome.......this was filmed at Woodstock

  • Speedway. Great races there. Stewart won one the week earlier. He retired shortly later. You must have been very high to think you were in NY! Peace on,,,,,

  • This was at the Ontario Speedway in Ontario California in the early 70's. This was featured on the show In Concert and was great!

  • sorry.......this is NOT Woodstock

  • jazz rock

  • Man i wish i lived in that era!!

Bands of today don't come close to these guys!!

  • 654654.....You are so right! I am 59 and "Experienced" them ALL!...The bands of today with so called talent could not even have gotten a tryout!!! These guys are 100% Major League!...They KICK AS_...JUST..PLAY...it...LOUD!!!

  • Dam! I recorded this on a cassette recorder off the tv. When my friend erased it a few years later I've been searching for the whole show, I wish ABC would show it again!

  • Way to cool.

  • Cal Jam 1 Was my first concert ever. Great gig and Rare Earth did a great job that day. Brings back good old memories. Thanks!

  • Cal Jam 1 was on a Saturday...We got there Thursday night...Maybe a hundred people in the parking lot...THey let us in late Friday night/early Saturday morning...I remember the mad dash thru the Ontario Motor Speedway tunnels. We ended up UP FRONT...

  • I will hope that somebody bring to us more videos from my favorite group Long live RARE EARTH!I m from Bosnia and i m fan of his music over 25 years!

  • I was up front at Cal Jam 1....Amazing day and night! Hard to believe it was over 33 years ago!

  • Fucking Great!

  • That's my BIG BROTHER Mike Urso on bass!

    YEAH!!!

Man they were a great band!

  • great i assume you were backstage..how was it? & the sound..backstage..was it better or worse than being upfront?

  • Hey Urso,

Pete Rivera is my cousin. Small world. and yes, they were a GREAT BAND. Wasn't your brother in HUB as well? They turned up some great stuff there too.

  • Your Bro' Rocked! He is the reason I picked up the guitar and learned to play...Say thanks to him!

  • TURN THIS ONE WAY UP FULL BLAST!!!!

  • I'm the only one who matters on the Internets. Since when am I not the only one who matters on the Internets? I got no memo or anything.

  • memories

  • Finding myself lately, really drawn into this band. - They're intense. - Glad I can still find them at some music stores on CD!

  • one of the greatest concerts of all time. It was referred to as California's answer to Woodstock for a long time

  • Good show, the party on the 60 fwy on the way was great!

  • hot n nasty!

  • WAOOOOO, my mother was sop happy when I found this video for her I'm only 14 years old but I know the lyrics as she has the CD, thank you for posting!!!

  • glad to see young people diggin the classic sounds!

  • I remember vividly when Rare Earth opened the day of concerts. Incredible day and night

  • yeah. I was at this concert at the old ontario motor speedway. Absolutely amazing day and night

  • YES ... music was better

  • CALJAM I and II badass time with badass bands

  • What ever happened to bands like this? This is one of the greatest bands EVER!!

  • I'm here from the most awesome band on Earth. Nuclear Warrior. I'm also the only one who taped this behemoth Gig properly, and I'm the only one who matters in Arts.

  • WOW! Thank whoever for this! What a flashback~! I think I saw myself....

  • I'm Scott Lifshine. I did the AUDIO for this gig. It's a good thing I did. This is a pretty good quality VIDEO though. Best I've ever seen. I'm the only one who matters on the Internet.

  • Lifshine, you can shine my ass. You think you're king of the world because you SUPPOSEDLY have audio of Cal Jam. So fking what? You've been bragging about it for years, yet you don't make the audio available and you're too stupid to know how to market it. You have nothing. Many of us have the entire concert on VIDEO with great audio, so what you have isn't shit.

  • Interesting you say you're the only one that matters on the Internet.

Because, Al Gore with my help invented the Internet!

  • Glad this video is back. I WAS there, and it is still one of the most significant days/nights of my life. California Jam 1 was truly amazing!!!

  • In 1973, a friend brought an 8-track tape of 'Rare Earth In Concert' to a Boy Scout camp out. I think we listened to Hey Big Brother about ten times that weekend. That album really got me turned on to Rare Earth.

  • Thanks for this .

  • Thanks, I was afraid I was the only one who remembered..

  • very very very cool. fun music. great band. rare footage of peter....thanks
