  • Agreed! That Dick dude is such a bad interviewer! He can't form his questions into correct sentences! Which for an interviewer is bad! Oh and he is not funny! xo

  • Agnetha is fiddling with her hands, she is soooo shy- N'aawww I love that woman <3

  • I love Dick Cavett. Wonderful man.

  • Nooo dick cavvet is awesome

  • Dick Cavett is the worst interviewer in the history of the world ever.

  • Am I the only one who think Benny looks like Notch?

  • @AisaawaaahGurrahFFS I was thinking the exact same thing. :P

  • Many people doesn't know that all four of them were already stars alone before they formed the group ABBA. Since they all were friends they started to sing together. Frida sang more adult pop and jazz/folk songs and Agnetha sang schlager (a genre in Scandinavia and Germany, light pop tunes). Bjorn and Benny sanged and wrote pop for themselves and others. Both Frida and Agnetha had performed on stages in musicals and cabarét shows, which were popular in Sweden during the 60's and 70's.

  • What does Bjorn think he looks like? An extra from Battlestar Galactica !!!

  • borning

  • i love agnetha's laugh!!<3

  • this guy is really weird

  • this is such an akwart interview

  • I love Agnetha's Accent!

  • its amazing how good their english is to say they are all swedish:D

  • every music writer should have a small cottage on an little island :-)

  • "My face"

I died! How I love that bearded man!

  • Virgisa, thank you very much for sharing the interview with us.

  • How I wish, Dick Cavett took the all the Oprah slots instead and still doing it today!

  • SWEDEN!

  • these guys are legend

  • Dick is a dick. its a wonder he was popular.

  • yes, hes really a dick

  • I freaking love their accents! :D I love this! I love them!!!

  • This is a great interview, hadn't seen it before. The interviewer has a very 'tongue in cheek' style, but it's nice to see Abba have such a good sense of humour and can laugh at themselves. They really were such an attractive group, with a magic all their own, but Agnetha will always be my favourite, she is an Angel. She always seems so shy in interviews and looks like she's almost blushing. This along with her luminous nordic beauty, adds to her charm.

  • Stop dragging me down to your impossible level. It's not for me to justify Leslie Cheung's suicidal jump from floor 24. The flit could've smashed a family from Kowloon. Such a selfish way to snuff it—the jumping. Not since Katharine Hepburn muffed her first pants-wearing tramp a century ago have things been so bleak for the common run of communal queers and their brand of unsustainable/unrealizable planetary collectivization.

  • Non-musicians are often mystified to learn that many great musicians and songwriters don't "read music" -- ie don't read those little dots and lines on a staff -- not realizing that music is a language in itself and that there are ways to talk about it and even write it down without needing standard notation. My analogy is that you don't to know how to read in order to speak, any more than you need to know how to read music in order to play it.

  • @jon1156 so true.. so so SO TRUE

  • wow Mr. Caveat got all the interviews with the musicians, and he was also cool about it, really likable guy.

  • I just decided Benny ismy fav <3

  • next to him: Frida...

  • Interviewer is awesome--love it!

  • This guy thought he was more important than the guests.

  • Cavett's interviews were ALWAYS about himself. not the guests.....When Fred Astaire once got up to dance at the end of an exclusive interview with Cavett. Cavett leaped up up and danced along with him.. No more need be said.

  • what was it all about? did host know what ask for at all? in my opinion its the dumbest interview ever seen in my life...

  • Nice that he didn't say any of their names right XD

  • dick seems like he's high

  • cavett is always uncharmingly insecure,

but it is surely not his fault that abba suffered from severe claustrophobia already

and made this interview feel like a funeral

  • man this is boring. Cavett should have whipped out his penis and urinated on the couch.

  • It might have something with my face - best comment i ever heard...

  • LOL - Benny "it could have something to do with... my face!"

  • Excellent interview

  • that guy is horrible at doing interviews!

  • Comment removed

  • Notice how the group is sitting. I think Bjorn and agnetha were already divorced by the time the interview was aired.

  • @bgarris1 yes they were.. and if Benny and Frida weren't divorced yet they were well on their way as Benny married Mona Nörklit in November 1981.

  • They all act like they've been sedated. Probably bored to death by Dick Cavett, who acts like he's under deep anesthesia.

  • what a wasted chance for abba fans, the interveiwer could not have a better name, d i c k.

  • Awful awful awful interview, difficult for all involved I'm sure... however, a gloriously sexy set of female leathery type legs to blow one's load also going on is the cunning trade off, here. Sterling.

  • haha, i've met agneta recently, she is still sooo bad at english.

  • Awesome Interview / Interviewer Neville Bardoliwalla

  • this interviewer is a knob. hes so slow.

  • an interviewer with intelligence, respect and wit

  • @nycanti and hell of a sense of humor haha

  • @nycanti

    That's Dick Cavett!

  • ok now THIS is a dumb question..but..did they have to learn english after they got fame? or did they know english previously?

  • You learn it in school, because english is a national language so they must have known atleast some words before fame.

  • @sweetchic485 ehm because bjorn&benny wrote all abba songs they probably knew english before? here in sweden we start to learn english in first grade, i dont know how it was back in their time though

  • he looks old and tired

  • Weird names? No.

    Normal, regular names.

  • Why isn't Frida talking? She's from the band too.The quality of the image is really good. Thanks a lot dor uploading!

  • Cavett was a terrible interviewer. He always looked awkward and stuck for words. It's sometimes painful to watch his interviews.....but he did get the funkiest and most hip stars of the day on his show that others ignored.

  • I can see how you'd get that feeling. I think that he was in some ways - a cut above the rest. He attained the best of the talent because he had a great reputation for conducting an interview with wit and alternative.

  • ya cavett is always a bit awkward

  • what a polite interview lol

  • dick cavett looks soo old and tired there

  • A horrible interview. Dick Cavett cleary didn't care for ABBA. What a joke Dick Cavett is here.

  • His interview with Katharine Hepburn was the best of his interviews, primarily because she told him at the beginning to stop interrupting. She said it so sharply that he really did shut up & let the conversation go where she wanted it to go. I think the Lipton guy from the actors studio is a good interviewer , because he actually listens to the answers to his questions. Jay Leno is probably the worst interviewer. No matter who he had on his show they were dull because he did not let them talk.

  • Dick Cavett is awesome. No one even does interviews anymore. This was an era when celebrities were famous for being talented and had something to say. The Dick Cavett/Bette Davis interview is the best!

  • @frustrated728 Asolutely!..You took the words out of my mouth..Cavett was very witty, humourous and asked great questions..ABBA are very relaxed here and its a bloody great interview..I wish interviews could be as good now..And the music as good too..Nobody has any imagination any more..all the kids grow up sitting behind their laptops instead of a guitar these days..and if they do write songs..where is the quality?

  • @frustrated728 Cavett was a genious!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with you Lukedean999! Dick Cavett was an awful interviewer!! He was sarcastic and condescending. But ABBA in their perfect humbleness and probable expectation "rolled with the punches" of these jabs. No wonder Europeans think of us as "ugly Americans." It also seemed that the Swedish audience "laughed" out of embarassment.

A great interviewer for this world class group would have been Bill Moyer or Lipton (actor's studio interviewer).

  • Shockingly bad interview - content and content links, poor humour, unengaging, no empathy, pace - everything is wrong.

    Toe-curlingly embarassing.

If you had one of the best ever pop groups together you should do better than this bumbling shambles.

    He should be ashamed.

My dad could be better than this.

    And he's dead.

  • the interviewer is only funny because he is so bad

  • the interviewer is a total retard. benny is funny 'it might have something to do with my face'. is it just me or do things seem a little tense here?

  • fools....

    Dick Cavett is a genius.

  • so I thought ABBa Disbanded in 1981. I guess a little while after this interview....

  • ABBA never officially split up, but in 1982 the decided to take a brake, and they never started again... :(

  • ABBA stopped in January 1983

  • LOL, that's entertanining :D

"It might have something to do with my face"

  • Wow! That guy is FUNNY!!! hehe

  • that interviewer is proper crap...

  • Dick Cavett was awesome! They need more like him on TV talk shows these days instead of creepy bug eyed Carson Daly!

  • B-jorn. Don't you love having games played with your name...

  • its so sad that Bjorn is the one to make the comment about how 'everything worth saving... stays" and he's suffering from memory loss... :(

  • benny is cool

  • It's a very slow paced interview, compared to TV interviews these days...but still enjoyable!

  • Comment removed

  • Who is that guy?What a dick!ABBA ROCK 2009 were is he?!?!?!?!?!Forever ABBA..

    From scotland the "brave".

  • this show is boring

  • who is bjorn married to the blonde?

  • What a dumb interview, Cavett is lost.

  • The way they keep the camera on Agnetha for long periods of time but hardly at all on Frida ia annoying.

But this is a nice interview, thanks for posting.

  • Abba created some very good music and seemed short changed in America. They were a force to be reckoned with.

  • Frida is very talkative... :D

  • cool this i have never seen

  • my pleasure :)

  • im a new fan of abba! :) i have a question. how did they come up with their group name. what does it mean? i was thinking Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, but then Frida's name doesn't start with an 'A'. lol. i always type 'Friday' when i'm trying to say Frida. i just did it again.

  • in the name ABBA are the first letters of their names: Agnetha Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid.

Frida is just her nickname :)

  • ohhhh! :D aw, thanks for your kind reply. see, i'd never have known that without yah.

  • my pleasure :)

  • why do the guys speak better english than the girls? is it coz they were used to writing their songs in english?

  • hehe the interviewer is stoned like shit! lol

  • He should bow before he talks to the Gods of Music

  • french and saunders dont have 2 sketch this one as this hella interview by this megadick head is a complete funny stuff!!!

  • this is one of my favorite interviews with all of them! they seem comfortable and relaxed with the questions.

  • I love Agnetha and Frida accents!!!! they sound so cute!

  • benny is a cutie :|

  • oh, yeah he is. :) he's the kind of guy i'd wanna be with.

  • pahahah! "It might have something to do with my face...."

well, it is a cute face!

  • damn, bjorn just speaks lyrics. i can actually hear the things he says being in a song. brilliant.

  • hahahah :D

  • Dick Cavett is a wonderful old-school interviewer and ABBA are a wonderful and witty group. Love it

  • I liked the host. He made them feel relaxed and they seemed to have a lot of fun ! And so did everyone else.

  • back when they had to memorize not read a prompt you morons ..

haha she pronounced violins like violence hahaha..sorry this interview is choppy at best but not horrible..I've seen worse

  • hahahahaha..what IDIOTIC interview...hahahahahaha poor abba..they must be hell bored...hahahaha..idiot is Dick cavett!!!!

  • Did this guy ever do research before an interview?? He's acting like he doesn't know who Abba even are! lol

  • Yeah I agree, he is also SOOO SLOOOOOOOW...

  • ABBA is an excelent group.. but the interview is very boring!!

  • this host killed an opportunity to have a good interview,,,,

  • what a crap host !

  • Call me the oddball, but I thought that was pretty darn hilarious :D

  • ABBA are one of the only groups I've ever come across where every single one of their songs are great.

  • ABBA ARE THE BEST!! X

  • Cavett almost puts the audience to sleep as he stumbles through this interview.

  • I must say it's kinda refreshing to hear an interview conducted in this slow and dry tone, what with today's interviews all happening lightning fast and as soon as it has began, it's over. Although it wouldn't surprise me that Dick Cavett had been smoking something backstage. He looks like he's about to fall asleep.

  • As a Swedish dude i must say its hilarious to hear Americans trying to pronounce Swedish names.

  • I have never heard abba talk, only sing, it is awsome. I LOVE their accents.

  • "It might have something to do with... my face? *blink blink* 8>"

    Hahahaha XDDD

  • so many great questions to ask and he is sooo stupid.

  • That guy is so dry

  • Cavett is so boring in the way he talks, with his dry jokes, his silly questions. If they could only edit Cavett out and leave ABBA in. Yech!

  • i find it funny when he says agnetha he changes into romeo. speaking to juliet. with that italian accent. hes in a dream with her

  • hold on a second. if you are all big abba fans you know the answers to everythign already. so why watch this interview.

he probably realised abba are very careful and rehearsed with their answers. so he may have adjusted his style to provoke them. look at benny saying "because of my face"

i thought it was a good interview

  • Yes! My God, he's a professional interviewer and he's acting like he's never done it before. Prepare some questions!

  • In fact, Dick Cavett's lack of preparedness seems almost disrespectful.

  • It took me almost half an hour to watch this because it was such a painful experience. Really. I had to keep stopping it. I need to wash my hands now. Just to be clear, I appreciate virgisa posting this, but Dick Cavette is a dolt. Washing my hands now.

  • Kripes.......and I thought the aussie interview was woefull......but that was due to poor recording.....this one is due to a lack of intelligence on behalf of the interviewer.

A waste of ABBA's time and ours.

    stubbie

  • PAINFUL

  • This Cavett guy is just a hula hoop-eyed, chicken neck looking jive turkey. What a waste!

  • As an American, I am embarrassed by this footage. Cavett interviews the BEST pop group of the past 50 years, and he squanders it. He even makes them sing "Don't Fence Me In," which is totally irrelevant to their genre. The show is saved when ABBA perform (live) "Me and I."—Type "ABBA Me and I show Dick Cavett" to see this 5th segment, which sounds even better than the album version.

  • Cavett hates Bush, you ignorant piece of shit.

  • That's all?

  • I went to the dick cavette show when he was on abc and he had charles aznavour and the hollywood 10 and another time when he was on pbs and he had james galway and jauque cousteau.

  • Who doesn't hate Bush?

  • they have such spirit and most beautiful music....

  • Dick is an ass! "As he would be in Midwestern America" Games played with your name...where the heck do you think most Scandinavian-Americans live! He's dry, without wit. Ugh.

  • WEIRD INTERVIEW THEY SEEM VERY ODD

  • you'd probably seem pretty stupid if you were speaking in your second language too...

  • And you're so stupid giving opinions ... even more stupid than the interviewer ... try to speak more than 4 languages and you will understand Agnetha.
