  • your an idiot, the reason it would'nt tune any lower is because your strings are heavy enough, you need at least 56 gauge strings to play in B, and to string my guitar i pull the string through the tuner once, then start turning it, and it works fine -__- learn how to use a guitar

  • i need a opinion I'm about to get a new guitar and i cnt decide whether i want this 1 or the epiphone les paul nightfall guitar any thoughts

  • What's the song in the background called? It was driving me insane all the way through trying to remember the name of the band.

  • @NathanMoulden My Curse - Killswitch Engage

  • If Jim picks this guitar up at a local shop, he'll take it to his tech before he gets on stage with it, Jim uses a heavier gauge string than what Fender loads it with.

  • The tuning issue is user error, mate.

  • How are the cleans on the guitar? Really interested in this guitar. I am not a fan of his band so I won't be playing it in their low tunings. I play in D standard or Open C tuning; and use a lot of cleans along with the brootz. Thanks.

  • @sean106alcon honestly not great, unless you add some kind of delay. ive played it clean through marshall, orange and vox amps and all have been abit lacking. a delay pedal always seems to clean it up though. for reference, the clean sounds are slightly harsher than in the intro to dont speak by no doubt. not sparkling, just not distorted.

  • how thick is hhat neck...i'm used to jackson necks that are tiny

  • @yourmotherlovesme132 slightly thicker than an ibanez prestige, not as shreddy as you'd expect.

  • i saw a video where jim root explains that he used the paint because he wanted the user to make the guitar personal (by wear and tear) in other words, the guitar wears very quickly

  • They should have made this an American made model. It is a fantastic idea slapped onto a mediocre guitar

  • Regarding the paint job, I have a the exact same guitar and hasnt faded like that. But it has faded where the strap rubs an what not but thats just wear and tear. the finish of the guitar is very dull and almost seems like it comes without a finish lacquer. it faded quicker in my opinion is because the paint job hasnt got a shiny finish coat like other. That's why it fades fast.

  • do you wear blue jeans

  • where can we get that satin back lockin tuners?? i cud not find it anywea

  • @MsDearme i got one of the first models, just order them seperately and fit them yourself.

  • in the vid you said that it your 6th string wouldn't go down to A. Why? and how did you fix it?

  • @lazerzeplien because the string wasnt long enough so it started wrapping round the other way when i got to Bb, i just put new strings on.

  • @lawrenceguitars Hi, im from sweden and i have a really silly question here, i didnt really understood what the difference of the to 2 guitars was, (the ebony and the maple) was the ebony more of a heavy metal guitar or what, Thanx :)

  • @MRxMCMUFFIN the ebony will give you better sustain and a slightly darker, more woody tone. think of the difference between stevie rays tone and hendrix's who used a maple.

  • Guitars have to be set up for different tunings if you want it to play properly, you moron.

  • @JDK0316191 it has nothing to do with how the guitar is set up you idiot, the string isnt long enough to drop into A, use some common sense before you comment.

  • u have to buy thicker string gadges

  • you do know its supposed to wear like that? right?

  • @blacksgslayer yes. that would be why i left an annotation in the video about it and also mentioned it in the description.

  • @lawrenceguitars lol i dont pay attention

  • lol why is the song 'my curse' from killswitch engage on?

  • just got this guitar a week ago and its sounds epic as fuck!! and the pick ups came already balanced, the only thing i did was lower the action of the higher strings slightly but appart from that, it was perfect right out of the box.

  • is it good with metalcore? for example august burns red

  • @darkhero101010 any guitar could be made to sound like ABR. i suggest looking up the rig the guitarists use then buying the same effects pedals.

  • @stuscott555 thats what ive been trying to find since a couple months lol

  • @darkhero101010 ewwwww don't play metalcore on a guitar made for ACTUAL METAL

  • @michaeldrywater i can play whatever i want on whatever guitar i want ;)

  • when jim said you can play this right out of the box he ment that there are not any differences between this guitar and his stage ones he plays live, of course you have to set it up and fit it with correct guage strings, your taking the 'out of the box' thing to literally. but that shading thing is fucking weird though i dont know whats up with that. you might of had just a bad batch of paint on this one.

  • @EMG801 Jim intened to give all the guitars their own unique paint fades to make the telecaster the USERS and not just Jim root. the paint will be unique to the player to even though the guiatr is the same its different :D

  • @TheEarthwormMatt idk man. unles your playing alot live and ur sweat is grinding into the side of that thing it shouldnt be fading like that. it sounds like a factory flaw or something, i have some friends who own these and there not fading at all.

  • @EMG801 type in Jim Root telecaster and there is a video of him doing a review on his own guitar and on a bit at the bottom of the guitar the same paint "miss" is apparent. i think he ment it. maybe maybe not :P i still think it gives a guitar more character

  • @TheEarthwormMatt yeah of course! i love ware marks! but he fucking abuses his guitars on tour playing show after show. but i think even with those ware marks on your it still looks pretty sick

  • i kinda like the color discoloration

  • Hey, in the video you say that thicker strings don´t fit through the locking tuner....but you also say that you did something against it, what was that? (I didn´t understand it in the video sry) ...and would you recommend this guitar if I wwant to play it with 12-60 string-set?

  • @PGuitar265 i took a circular file and filed the hole to around an extra 1mm. yes thats the gauge i play with now, i switched from a 64 to a 60.

  • @lawrenceguitars was that complicated to do?

  • @lawrenceguitars the bridge of the guitar looks pretty simple, is it good enough though, so that you can properly intonate it with that thick strings?

  • i think when Jim says he can just pick one up from the shop and play it live that night, that he was on about the specs being exactally the same. same shaped neck/neck radius, same contures in the body, same sized Frets ECT obviously if you use one tuning more than others then you wont want to wind the string round the tuners as much and it wouldnt take long to shot a set of thicker strings on but after saying that, i guess the "fileing the clamp down" would be a bit of a set back

  • im not sure which one is called bridge or neck pickups

  • i recently bought the same pair of guitar- and ive got some questions-

    1. is your first pickup ( first from the fretboard -a bit wobbly ? and has it got a gap between the pickup and the body?

    2. is your second pickup balanced- i dont know how to put up this question- i'll give it another try- is it bit slanty?

  • @metalminia i know to balance your pickup, you just tighten/losen the centre screws either side of the pickup. im getting one made for me and it should be here within the week, so ill check see if it comes already balanced.

  • does it stay in tune?

is it have a thin or thick neck?

is it it light or heavy(body wieght)?

  • @IronMaiden4ever94

yes, but graphite in the nut always helps.

    thick neck

heavy, not far from a les paul

  • @lawrenceguitars thanks man

  • hey hey! i love this guitar

i did some searching myself to see if i could find the answer to your paint problem

    and i did :D

theres a video right here on youtube of jim root himself talking about this exact guitar... his paint, also has started to turn different colours -- its an aging process

  • @ipop222 i know, i mention that in the description and with an annotation in the video

  • @lawrenceguitars Jim says the paint is meant to come off to show your character, as he says in an interview.

  • @Zachriah1 yes, as i mention in the description and in the video.

  • @HeheShutUp121 Its 1400-1500 $ :)

  • Hi, it's possible that the fading in the paint was due to an undercoat problem. This point would need white base coat, then white paint. Maybe they just do undercoat, and say "lets not do more" cos it's satin anyway. Cost cutting.

  • what u recommend: fender jim root stratocaster or telecaster??? Luis Miguel :D

  • @XxMIGUELxXFrad never played the strat so couldn't say, have a play of both yourself and choose

  • how long did it take for the paint to start faiding ect, i think it looks badass

  • @RideTheLightning1995 about 2 months of solid playing the back started to turn, now theres some yellow and orange on the front, i've grown to love it

  • @lawrenceguitars i bought this today, its unreal! it has a little red stain next to the imput from the case, i cant wait for it too start faiding properly, look real old school

  • I hear Killswitch in the background :D

  • What gauge were the strings when you took it outta the box?

  • How mush does this guitar cost in $

  • do you need to have the guitar setup in shop if you play in standard tuning?

  • @george14141414 no, you can learn to do it yourself from youtube vids and such

  • @george14141414 why would you need to im pretty sure the guitars come in standard tuning with standard gauged strings and then you just go from there. i mean yes it needs to be set up either way. but i could be wrong about the string gauge and tuning but im pretty sure thats how it was lol

  • @george14141414 probably be a good idea tho if u dont want it to get fucked up

  • @george14141414 u just need to tune it to normal, and let it sit for 10 mins.

    than adjust truss-rod and bridge.

bridge is now ok. let it sit 10 more minutes, and adjust the truss-rod.

    now, spectate.

  • I really like these guitars but I'm a cheap arse so will build a replica instead and save some cash for partying.

  • @jake7doyle I want one!

  • "out of the box" means that you don't have to got to a shop and get it all set up.. the neck straightened out or the action is shit, or setting the saddles for intonation etc. Buy some new strings, get 11-13 gauge strings. It will help the strings stay a bit tighter : )

  • im selling one of these if anyone is interested

  • the discolorment of it means you play it thats why he made it white i have one and its one of the best guitars i ever had...stay sic

  • @unscathed138 i know, i said that in the description bro. i put this out before he did that vid and no one elses paint was going like that, thats why i put the paused annotation in now

  • I hope Fender saw this review

Not the first time they've messed up the paint on a strat. Remember the anniversary silver strats?

  • @engineroomapocalypse this is a tele

  • @engineroomapocalypse turns out they did it on purpose, jim talks about it in a recent video

  • @lawrenceguitars That would explain it. Personally I would rather the guitar didnt relic itself so readily though

  • @engineroomapocalypse its on purpose moron

  • I think you should burn your evil guitar"what? messed up paint? Dude this is one of the greatest guitars to come around in a long time. I would take up any of your (problems?) with Fender. This guitar rocks ........period!

  • @kathy0698 err..what? where you getting the burn your evil guitar thing from?

  • I would by a seven string instead but's that's my personal opinion

  • dude, a main problem with it only going to B could be the .009 gauge fender strings.

  • I got mine today, mine was great to play out of the case, set up well, mine goes down to A, with the current strings, granted its not nice to play with the factory strings that low. I love it.

  • @Roofusadhum glad they've sorted it out and it plays well :)

  • @Roofusadhum i built one just like this but with mick's sig pickups. Wish id get this too :/

  • The paint having no effect on the sound of the guitar? Really? This guy sounds somewhat like an idiot! I guess in the end he does realize it is a great guitar!

  • @kathy0698 silly silly person, i said it hasn't had a negative effect on the sound, i do realise it makes a small difference when the paint has changed, but not a difference significant enough to make a negative impact.

  • @lawrenceguitars

It does change your tone, I mean serious, Think of this, Why would anyone buy a 1960 or 1970 vintage guitar I don't know...Stratocaster or Les Paul, whatever it is, Why?

Because with the age, their tone turns sweeter, just like wine.

  • The odd part about this review is that with the locking tuners the string only goes through as tight as you want it to be. I have one and the strings are really loose when you put them through and lock. So the tuning is way lower than drop A. Mine right out the box could go to Drop A with no problem. So the whole point of wrapping the strings around the tuner makes no sense to me at all.

  • do u hav 2 use any batterys for the pickups?

  • @SLipKnoTFrEaK0505 ye u gotz 2 uz batorez for da pikups

  • @lawrenceguitars ok weres the battery box at?

  • @SLipKnoTFrEaK0505 its in the back. there is a plastic cover plate over it.

  • his startocaster is better than his telecaster

  • Hey it's killswitch my curse in the background :P

    such a cool guitar

  • i have black one like a year now and i dont usually clean it but the color stil looks fine anf I can't put .60 on my 6th tuner ?? any ideas??

  • @CriZiS22F You remove the winding of the string to reveal the core. If you look at the string closely, you can see that it's just a steel core with smaller strand of nickel (or whatever material) wrapping around it. Use a needle nose plier and carefully pull out the strand so that you leave the core exposed. You only want to remove enough so that there's enough length of the core to pass through the peg hole. If you still don't know how to do it, may be I'll make a video.

  • satin finish guitars wear down and in a interview with fender he says that he chose that particular finish type so every guitar depending on who is playing them will have its own unique look depending on where they touch on the guitar frequently.

  • @dantel666 i know i said about that interview in the description

  • hey does this guitar come with a case cus im thinkin about buying it from guitarcenter if it doesnt come with a case then im gonna buy the strat thanks

  • @TheGuitarman1995 yea it comes with a really nice tweed flight case

  • @vision112 yea a guy posted a link to it below, i thought it was a flaw because people who'd bought it before me didn't see any change in the paint

  • does this guitar in black finish have the same paint issue?

  • @51abracadabra dont know havent heard of it happening to the blacks

  • @51abracadabra

i have it in black, the paintjob is the same in both black and white (nitro),in my opinion the paintjob is awfull, the quality of this guitar is bad the bridge saddles are bad,i had also a neckpocket problem because the neck was not perfectly atached to the body.

  • @tichchris yea they're fine

  • how much does it cost?

  • @girgirbaker depends on the dealer just search online

  • Jim tells about it: /watch?v=xHAtRNfPdiw

  • Dude ive not gone through all the comments cba but you do realise its a nitro type of finish so your jeans and hands will and ARE meant to wearand discolour the paint.

not haivng a go just asking :) still love this guitar !

  • @AlexJCThompson1992 no didnt know that man. How come this hasnt happened to everyone elses tho, only one person has said they've had this happen to them and it wasnt even on this guitar.

  • @lawrenceguitars im not sure why you've not heard of or seen this before but i do know that a vast majority polish over the same sort of finishes with products like Brasso which takes the dryness out of the wood meaning it doesn't suck dye out of clothing or retain colour from things it comes in contact with.

Anyway best of luck n all

    AlexJCThompson1992

  • are you trying to copy jim cause you got the jim root tele and then your getting an orange amp try and get your own sound

  • @DemonLlama25 we get orange amps at the music university i go to, the brighton institute of modern music, and they always sound great and are reliable, so thats why. I haven't got a rockerverb 100 so im not trying to copy him. This is only one of the guitars i have. i got this one because of its simple design and versatility, and for use in a slipknot tribute band where i obviously need a similar sound.

  • So you are saying the guitar is not playable out of the box because of the way the strings are mounted? Change the strings man! Sheesh!

  • @lighteningboy im not saying its not playable :S i said jim couldnt pick one of these up from a shop and play a show with it like he said because it wont go low enough. Never said it wasn't playable.

  • it could just be dirty it looks like it would have almost like a matte finish and after a while it attracts dirt like that

  • @ztixfigure its not, its starting to turn yellow

  • killswitch engage in the background!!!! Rock on! nice guitar!!!!

  • actually jim doesnt say you can play just out of the box he says he can go into a guitar shop and it sounds as good as his others he metions nothing about a box.

  • @4James4root out of the box=new. why would a guitar shop modify it from how it came

  • @lawrenceguitars a guitar shop would tune it up and may put good quality strings on it they cant jus get it out and say put up forshow cause wht if som1 wants 2 play it but it sounds crappy and is not tuned they have to inspect it

  • @4James4root the one i got was box fresh, and from one of the most respectable retailers in britain. micks signature comes the way he plays it, so its down to the individual company to supply the ready product.

  • i have a question:

How does it feel compared to a strat. or a american model by fender ( this is made in mexico, right?). i don't know if i should buy it, my father owns one (fender tele deluxe) and i love to play it, because is feels just right, but it is not a mean guitar. and this one seems to be my holy grail.! :)

so, how does this one feel?

    thanks a lot mate.

    Dave

  • @BlueShirt7 ive played the deluxe tele, and its way better to play than this. But i have the roadworn strat with a sanded down neck, and its the easiest guitar to play, so i sanded down the neck on this tele and it feels great. Also, the neck i chnky like a less paul, its not really built for shredding.

    Hope that helped mate

  • i think its cool that the finish wears away easy. its probably got a nitro finish (don't quote me) and that Finnish is meant to fade and wear off quicker. but i suppose some people would argue about spending so much on a guitar. but i would love one. i dont play metal but i think it looks pretty cool. not a big fan of emgs mind :)

  • So it came in E tuning?

  • mate the same thing happened to the paint on my white jim root tele, massive blue stain on the back after a particularly sweaty rehearsal - i thought it was more the dye from my jeans being absorbed onto the paint job than the paint fading.

  • @chamozolano mines starting to turn yellow man :S

  • when you tuned to drop A, had you put new strings on or did it still have factory strings? because the problem might've been the fender standard tension .009's

  • I'm really interested in this guitar!

how is the neck if you would compare to other guitars?

Is it as thin as the "usual" tele, or is it thick as a les paul?

  • @Knarkbazze its pretty much exactly like my les paul neck, i sanded it down tho as it makes it allot easier to play without varnish or paint

  • @lawrenceguitars which les paul model do you have?

  • @Knarkbazze epiphone standard

  • @lawrenceguitars allright, thanks man!

    I'm gonna check it out!

  • @Knarkbazze you're welcome man hope you like it :)

  • it's becuz fender puts 9's on their guitars. You can't tune 9's lower than a whole step. they just won't hold. You could've done some research before and would've discovered that.

  • @Butthouse Yes they can they can hold on this guitar on C and its a fender. Learn your shit.

  • You had my curse by killswitch engage in th background. I love killswitch :D

  • BTW, JR guitar is best I've played in a long time. Not a Slipknot fan. Didn't know who Jim Root was when I tried the guitar. But I wanted a more comfortable Tele with a good neck. Not a paper thin neck like Ibanez. I prefer some meat in the neck. It's very versatile and not just for metal...at least I don't use it for metal. Wish it had a better/harder nut b/c my strings are diggin into it. Overall, the JR guitar is IT for me.

  • I use a .56 gauge on my black JR guitar with no problem. Here's the solution. Remove the winding the from the string to the core but only just enough to be able to thread the string through the post. It won't effect the sound or the sustain of the string at all. This is the same technique that bass players use. This is actually a common problem with most guitars. The tuners are designed for standard E tuning b/c they're common. So just use my solution and you can use whatever gauge you want!

  • @MrMillhouse07 cheers dude tried it worked great:D

  • @lawrenceguitars hey man, that's great that it worked. Dunlop made custom strings for JR so it was probably made so that the core of the string is at the perfect place for his tech to weave it into the string post. But it still doesn't excuse Fender for not think of this and use a machine head with larger holes. Now you can use whatever gauge you want. Just don't go nuts and put bass strings on the guitar now ;-)

  • @lawrenceguitars This or an ESP M-II? ESP Eclipse?

  • @themotocrossman83 couldn't tell you i haven't played them.

  • @themotocrossman83 this guitar is nice and have the looks...but you can't go wrong with ESP...no fucking way

  • @MrMillhouse07 i dont get it

  • @MrMillhouse07 how to remove winding??

  • @CriZiS22F what do you mean by winding?

  • @lawrenceguitars thw winding that wrap arond string core

  • @CriZiS22F pliers

  • That guitar sucks, I have it and I couldnt even change .52 sting to it because the tuner hole was way too small! Also, the mounting screws on bridge broke immediately as I touched on them. Nice song, btw, KsE 4ever, at least they play with decent guitars.

  • @m4ssee no way, was it second hand?

  • is the paint wearing because its a thinner finish then? like the highway one guitars, after a year, they begin to look more aged, because i think its nitrocellouse paint

  • @theboywhocantollie I dont think its meant to, because its now turning florescent yellow, and this started happening after 2 months. No one else seems to have a problem with it, it might just be this model, but allot of people said they've had this with white guitars.

  • is the paint wearing because its a thinner finish then? like the highway one guitars, after a year, they begin to look more aged, because i think its nitrocellouse paint

  • Dude, I use ernie ball 10s and I can go down to Drop B and Drop A with barely any problem. And I use a modified encore strat!

  • Fair enough dude, i just prefer thicker strings even in standard, im so used to them i tend to overbend if i use anything lighter than 11's.

  • I got this with the maple neck, its awesome, i had the same string "problem", it was tuned to E, and all i wanted to do was change it to Eb and the strings popped out, annoying, first time i every boought a new guitar and had to re- string it straight away. but over all an Fanny-tastic guitar

  • You said that you used 12 gauges. But the guitar was designed only to accomodate what Jim uses ( 11-56) which for Drop B and A is pretty loose feeling but Jim likes his strings to be fairly slinky for soloing...just thought to share that with you. Cool accent too man! I'm stuck with my dumb American redneck drawl lol. CHEERS!

  • Its only the E and A strings thatwouldnt fit through, and the set i used only went upto 56 :P

  • I can't believe the machine heads weren't able to take heavy gauge strings without modification, Fender you idiots! I was going to get the new Jim Root strat, but I dunno now.

It should ship with the same tuning/strings for Slipknot, doh! The Mick Thomson model does.. :)
