I think its great that Sean Penn narrates this. Especially since Jeff Spicolli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High was a total spoof of the whole Cali surf/skate scene. Spicolli's down with Zephyr!
Heres what I got out of it............Cholos mexican bangers changed the entire culture of America. Zboys-grew up around cholos and took the modern style of tattooing -the ripped up dickies and vans from their mexican american counterparts. The gang they grew around is 120 years old
They should make a videogame telling the whole story with this characters dressing oldschool, listening 70s rock, bowling pools, riding the streets and going to competitions.
I don't pretend to be disrespectful, it's just that new generations need to know the roots of skateboarding and nowdays videogames seem to be the best way to get it.
I lived off of skating as well as they did. I grew up with surfing and skating and met tony alva at the board gallery down at newport beach. :) It was awesome and I love this film and how they inspired me to have the surf/skate feel aspect that came out of the whole POP culture but now it's all fucked up with kids that dont skate like surf rats or rebels/junkie screw ups and i am sick of it man. great vid
I love this movie but "Lords of Dogtown" was so bad and wasn't fair to any of them .........Today it is so different were they all have agents . It made all of them look bad.
man i didnt know you had to dress a certain way to fuckin skate now a days, who the fuck are you the skate police. cuz if you you are your forgetting what this shit is about.
@MrDoMiniCanPrinCe881 as they said later in the documentary "If it wasn't for craig stecyk skateboarding could have easily become baseball it could have become a novelty." Im proud of what the z boys did for skateboarding and I'm proud I got to see the zephyr shop earlier this year if it wasn't for the z-boys skateboarding would have died in the early 80's or it would look pretty shitty.
All you people on here talking shit about the "new age" are fucking stupid back then all they cared about was themselves their own music and style and the new age is the same they skate their own style listen to their own music and do what makes them happy just like skaters back in the 70's did in reality there exactly alike just changed with the time
i know real skater dont wear skinny jeans these guys are god of skating and they went through hard times people, those people played it cool and had good time, awesome movie
Thank you so much for posting this....as far as I'm concerned, it's American heritage. I was a hardcore skater from 1976 'til 1980. Only 4 years, but it seemed (and still does) like a lifetime. I had heard of the "surfing lifestyle" before I started..and I thought it was kinda' BS....but by '77, I was living to skate, skating to live! It was hard driving down the road, and looking both ways, constantly looking for banked pavement/concrete!...lol! All these guys were badass!, Jay Adams was my fave

Back then, these guys were the shiznit! When I got my 1st DT skate in '78, it was like... I'm there!
We all skated like the Z-Boys back then... had an old water reservoir we rode at, sprayed all kinds of skate logos there, and ripped it up!
When pools started happening, it was a whole new ball game.
