Something you'll really want to try with Knuckles is to attack rapidly without holding the control stick (hit the B button rapidly). He'll preform a rapid-punch attack that chips down huge foes quickly. Also, if you aren't holding the control stick while punching, you won't fall off the edge, or move around as wildly as you've seen.

This attack is unique to Knuckles and is actually pretty useful.

Also, did you know as speed formation you can use homing attack to attack someone without hurting yourself? Just jump really high with your friends and homing attack away from the enemy and your friends should be able to home onto the enemy.

When playing as Knuckles, and you just constantly tap the B button (don't hold the control stick) he'll do a little short jab attack.  Really good for taking down the armored robots! He doesn't fly around everywhere while doing this maneuver.

I'm actually still surprised how long it takes you to get the emeralds in the special stages. With me, I immediatly switch to the power character (because then you get more balons and they generally control better) and hold the boost, whereupon it only takes about 10 seconds or less to reach the emerald. Also, I can't help but not notice that you haven't mentioned the special abilities you can pull off for a limited time after you perform the team blast. Oh, and tails can shoot the big robots ;)
