@bobrec3GTI xenon are hids, just a single beam(low beam hid only). Bixenons are the ones that you see now adays with a projector and both the high and low beam in one. Back in the day, before the designers started using projectors with an electronic solenoid cutoff shield, they used the kind in the movie above. You can buy the bixenons on retrofitsource(just google it) and put them in any car though.
@H20MarkVIII arent xenon lights gas-based bulbs? Xenon uses gas which happens to be called xenon. HID's use a mix of metallic salts in their gaseous states to produce light..
@bobrec3GTI Many Chinese bulb companies name their bulbs xenons because they have a blue coating on them which mimics the colour of hids. Traditional halogen/knockoff xenons(without a ballast) do indeed use a gas/wire combo which heats up to produce light. You are correct hid do use a salt combination to produce light, Hid bulbs are closer in design to a spark plug then a halogen bulb which is why they require a ballast to increase the voltage. Xenons that are genuine hids are low beam only.
@kubalibre305 the car will lower an inch when you drive at 65mph for 90 seconds and raise once you hit 45mph for 90 seconds. Once you turn off the car and let it sit for 4 hours then it auto lowers to the sitting position. There is a module that you can get so you can lower it or raise it as you want though.
@kubalibre305 Just dont crash it like I did to mine a couple weeks ago... A headlight, a fender and some paint is considered a write off with these cars. I want to get another mark 8 but i think im going to get a 1990 sl500 convertible instead.
@H20MarkVIII yea i saw one for 2000 bucks on craigslist and it needed the right quarter panel, headlight and bumper lol but no i live in a place where there are many roads and most with no houses or anything so i can go fast and have fun without any danger :)
Im going to be pissed if the scrap yard is selling the car for 2 grand. The insurance company gave me 2500 and the scrap yard gave me 1000. Maybe I will buy it back for 1000 and fix it then. Thx for info
Is very reminiscent also of the '94 Chrysler Concord (rear and front lights, long nose/profile)... For a luxury sports sedan, that's one very ugly speed cluster. Just one question: is this the same air suspension found on buses?
This car is missing its engine shroud. I use to have one of these when they were new. Absolutely stunning car when it was new, one of the first with Xenon headlamps.
The freaking car dont lower when you open the door. it lowers after being driven, then, park then shut down , then close door. thats when it lowers. and when restarted it rises back up . depending on the weight the sensors recieved will vary on the height.
you wouldn't see it till you get out and shut the car. my three fat girlfriends decide to take ride on my lincoln mark viii when they got into the car the compressor stood on longer than usual til bags fill, too make up for the weight.
@AandWProductions Depends on year & model I believe. Some LSC had a button you could push with predetermined settings for ride height or quality as well. They can lower to improve fuel and reduce drag. I have a 96' base model and lowered it by using a Dremel to elongate the holes for the sensor brackets to lower it about an inch and a half or so. But I've never heard the compressor kick on after being on the highway nor do I think it lowers itself while @ 60mph+. Think it was a 97 -98 option.
what part of the country is this? It's hard to believe this car has no rust in the rocker panels or bottoms of the doors considering the shape the rest of the car is in...it's nearly impossible to find a solid MN12 now adays unless its somewhere down south or out west..
@rmcdev What lower on shutdown? ALOT of air suspension vehicles lower when you shut them down and yes they are SUPPOSED to do that. I have owned several and when you shut them off after a few seconds they release and lower.
And yes, my brand new half a year old car is supposed to do that, and it's in the manual.
@braydenmartindale Wrong. NO Lincoln is supposed to lower to the ground, EVER. Yes, it vents and lowers slightly when you open the door, but the front end of that car is completely on the ground, which says that either the bags, line, or seals in the drier are leaking, or all 3.
@rmcdev Look at how low to the ground it is even after the air bags re-inflate, thats normal. I had an old Town Car with the same air suspension this vehicle has, and it always deflated when you turned the vehicle off. My Land Rover does the same.
@braydenmartindale Again, you have no idea what you are talking about. The car vents less than HALF an inch when you open the driver door.
The rule of thumb is if the car loses more than an 3/4 of an inch overnight, there is a leak and it needs repair. This is NOT normal. I don't care if your Land Rover lowers when you turn it off, it certainly does NOT lower itself to the bump stops like this car is, and if your Town Car lowered itself more than an inch, it had a leak as well.
@rmcdev I have no idea, what next you want to tell the multiple mechanics that checked the car out that they are wrong too?? Plus I didn't say there was anything wrong with the car I said SOME CARS lower themselves after being shut down.
It's pathetic how you idiots care so much about being ignorant to strangers.
PS: Don't be a fucking rude ass, unless you want me to be a f&cking asshole right back to you, and you won't like that.

id rather own one of these over a eldorado any day, 4 wheel air ride that constantly monitors and adjusts for speed and the performance it gives for its size is impeccable for the year it was made
Nice looking car but there are definitely signs inside that ford was low on cash at the time like that awful gauge cluster... looks like it came off an escort bleegghhh and that hideous shifter package. Overall nice car when it came out and there weren't many cars that were THAT streamlined looking in the mid 90s
@Wheelman286 Here's an exterior sign of money troubles... it looks like they stole the doors directly from a mid 90s Taurus also. They may have made them longer but look close and you'll see what I mean.
With the demise of the Town Car next year, there will be no more Rear wheel drive lincolns besides the some of the Navigators. That's just a damn shame. Lincoln, bring back RWD and make it competitive with BMW and Mercedes and I promise you will make sales. Look how well the CTS is doing.
Poorly assembled out of cheap plastics and other man made materials, impractically large in design for a coupe and still manages to only seat 4 people with not much space in the rear. Huge unrefined, under engineered V8 which achieves less than 10mpg and produces less horse power than a european 2.0L straight six that can get 30mpg. or in other words, its american
The entire cabin is filled with soft touch high quality plastics. This car was pure luxury and comfort. It was large because that was Lincoln´s way years ago when they had not a single medium size sedan. It can seat 4 people comfortably considering this is a coupe and not a family car ( people who bought this rarely got passengers in the back). This engine was very well developed for the 90s. It had more power than a comparable BMW 4.4 or M-B 4.3 V8 of that era.
Also you have to consider the engine output you mention (2.0 I-6) is uncommon even these times. Current large V-6s are pushing comparable performance to this Lincoln´s V-8 but remember in those times Direct injection VVT and all that electronic stuff was unavailable. That´s why you can´t compare old and new motors. You can get much better milleage in this car if drive properly. Also you can get less MPG of your 2.0 if you drive like crazy. In other words you´re ignorant
Hey Kyle, I got a quick question. in the beginning of the video next to the Lincoln I see a Camaro that looks like the same Camaro you had to jump off to get started in one of your previous start up vids. Is that the same one?
Pretty decent coupe for an american from '98 but AWESOME idea Kyle for making 0-60 times around 4:18 , these type of information that that really imrpove the quality of your videos making it more professional ! You know what , if you need somebody to help you gather more performance informations (0-60 , Braking distance , Vmax etc ) i can do that ;)
Anyway nice video as always , You are definitely the youngest & best reviwer !
@TripleXXX8700 Lincoln's were always Fords where you been at. The Town Car was always the same thing as the Grand Marquis and Crown Vic. This car right here is related to the Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar.
for 1998, this car is wicked high-tech. an automatic tilting AND telescoping steering wheel?? and home link? how could someone let a $40,000 car get this bad??
Really cool car, with a little work, esp. interior and polishing those headlamps it'll look pretty good. Thanks for including the original price as well as the original 0-60, nice info to include. Good video, and a really interesting find!
Oh God how can someone treat a great car like this that way :( If it was mine, I'd treat it like a diamond :p Very nice (and pretty rare?) car, americans do know how to make a good looking car!
Great vid as usual Kyle. I'm surprised though that you didn't mention one of the coolest features of this car -the entire trunk tail light is a one piece neon tube light! It looks incredible at night. =)
im amazed at sum people how they treat there vehicles....its still a nice car I always loved the Mark VIII you think the owner or owners of it would keep it up. shame.
@Dalit5 That's my exact opinion. This was a UFO back in the day, and it would still be a great smooth and unusual car, but unfortunately, some people just don't know how to take care of stuff like this.
I remember thinking these things were gorgeous when they came out lol. Still a nice car and I'm sure it'll run fine with some maintenance, but I know those late 90's Ford products had serious wiring issues.
Can you make older Lincoln Mark V 1977 or 1979 video?

It had more power than a comparable BMW 4.4 or M-B 4.3 V8 of that era.
luisinhoens90 1 year ago
@cupramac

You know what , if you need somebody to help you gather more performance informations (0-60 , Braking distance , Vmax etc ) i can do that ;)
Anyway nice video as always , You are definitely the youngest & best reviwer !
Ps: It's too cold outside for a green polo bud !

Probably the last true Lincoln other than the Town Car. All the Lincoln's now are just Fords with some rouge put on.
TripleXXX8700 1 year ago
@TripleXXX8700 Lincoln's were always Fords where you been at. The Town Car was always the same thing as the Grand Marquis and Crown Vic. This car right here is related to the Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar.

for 1998, this car is wicked high-tech. an automatic tilting AND telescoping steering wheel?? and home link? how could someone let a $40,000 car get this bad??
Corkoth55 1 year ago
Really cool car, with a little work, esp. interior and polishing those headlamps it'll look pretty good. Thanks for including the original price as well as the original 0-60, nice info to include. Good video, and a really interesting find!

I'm ashamed of the lack of care the irresponsible unappreciative owner that owned this.
gajda1984 1 year ago
Great vid as usual Kyle. I'm surprised though that you didn't mention one of the coolest features of this car -the entire trunk tail light is a one piece neon tube light! It looks incredible at night. =)

im amazed at sum people how they treat there vehicles....its still a nice car I always loved the Mark VIII you think the owner or owners of it would keep it up. shame.
rig48 1 year ago
@Dalit5 That's my exact opinion. This was a UFO back in the day, and it would still be a great smooth and unusual car, but unfortunately, some people just don't know how to take care of stuff like this.
cipmars 1 year ago
I remember thinking these things were gorgeous when they came out lol. Still a nice car and I'm sure it'll run fine with some maintenance, but I know those late 90's Ford products had serious wiring issues.
