She's been maligned.People saying how terrible and screechy her voice is have closed minds Decades ahead of her time. B-52s--copying her. Pioneer using her voice as an instrument, not merely a medium to render "tunes." "Tunefulness" in this context is irrelevant. Like stating that the Paul Jenkins can't go over your sofa because it doesn't resemble your mother. Well, it wasn't supposed to, now, was it?
Once you get over conventional criteria for evaluating a voice her work makes sense. Dig it.
Yoko should have just perused this kinda stuff instead of the pointless screaming! So many people got turned off and they never returned to give her a second chance. There's so many out there who don't have ANY IDEA that she actually recorded songs like this. She was a great lyricist too. The impression so many have is that ALL of her albums are nothing but screaming and feedback.
That's extremely offensive. I have family members with cancer and know many who have lost members of their family to the disease.
That you would compare music from an artist you don't happen to like with a deadly, life-crushing disease that affects millions makes me wonder if you are or would be so unthoughful in real life. I hope not.
Yoko's voice isn't edited. There was no auto tune back then.
And if you're going to insult an artist, why go onto their videos in the first place? If you don't like it, leave a respectful comment explaining why instead of making derogatory comments.
There are too many hateful words in the world already.
@insaneforstuff254 I read an authentic personal letter from John Lennon in a Neil Young Museum in Omeeme, Ontario, Canada. Neil Young has endorsed the archives so they are authentic. Lennon defends Yoko's artistry 100 per cent in writing to a music agent when they released her Fly Album. Both Ringo and Paul seem to support Yoko in her artistry and her song Sean does too. She definitely is no Beatle, however, she has written some very good songs that have won awards which JL would be proud.
You presume because he was a celebrity that you knew him. You didn't. His music spoke of love, fear, anguish, loneliness, despair...but ultimately love. Love he finally felt because of Yoko. How pompous of you to judge that.
Some people need to put down others, call them ugly etc. to feel better about themselves, because in the end all we have is Love and Fear.
Ono was and is just very deluded as to her own merit. She thought that since a "clod" like Lennon had achieved success in music, she should as well. She was never able to understand that music making requires some ability, some appeal, etc. Ono thinks that her music did not achieve success because of racism, sexism, etc. She is simply deluded.
John loved her. For those of you who don't like her, don't listen. To use the vulgar insults is so contrary to what John stood for that shame is all you should feel when you write those ugly words.
Which part of "All You Need is Love" didn't you understand?
I understand the cliche "All you need is love," but I do not believe it. Neither did Lennon.
BTW, Ono cheated on Lennon, wasted obscene quantities of money on her boyfriends, her psychics, her drug habits, her Egyptian artefacts, etc. She treated him despicably.
John believed in all that crap too (psychics, numerology, primal scream etc). All I am saying is that he loved her. I wasn't in their relationship, neither were you.
@Ribzypunk bring up a point with actual merit. This isn't about John or his feelings for Yoko. It's about how just because she married him doesn't make her a celebrity. It's like in modern times how K-Fed thinks he can be a rapper just because he was hitched with Britney Spears. There are just some people who shouldn't be allowed near a microphone, period.
Remember, Lennon had been "eating acid like candy" prior to getting involved with Ono. Indeed, just hours before consummating their relationship, Lennon summoned the Beatles and their PR guys to his side to let them know that he had become Jesus Christ -- and that he wanted to announce so in a press conference.
He was not thinking clearly. Ono, meanwhile, was a master manipulator.
I love the Album Feeling the Space by Yoko. One of her best efforts. The words on the Cover of this Album are so hilarious!! She has a great sense of humour!!!
sounding like crap seems to be a matter of personal, subjective taste.
as to breaking up the beatles - people tend to make their own decisions.
whatever it is that provoked you to make that dyke-comment, i dont think that matters in any way here. i mean, a dyke is a dyke is a dyke, theres no problem with that (except if you use it deprecatingly), and in yoko onos case it is not true. (its like saying "my bike is a hummingbird")
Did John participate on this album? Another excellent post dude. Here's to hoping for some wonderful person to post Yoko's song "It's Alright". I cant find it anywhere. SOS Misterfabdude! : )
@Landrew120880 my bad... John appears as "John O'Cean" on two songs (She Hits Back, Woman Power) but it was still ... a bad time for "the two virgins" ;)

It's a wonderful song, but she still sucks at singing.

This is a lovely song. Too bad she ruined it by insisting on singing it herself.

It is simply embarrassing...
She has been married John Lennon: this is her only quality.

Is it fear or love you feel when you talk negative about others, be it Yoko, your co-workers, your wife, your neighbors....?
Is pity a subset of fear or love? I gotta work that out myself, because that's what I feel for Kylejj64 right now.

She thinks because she is married to John Lennon, she thinks that makes her a celebrity too. It only makes her famous, but not a singer.
