Really enjoying these old show clips to bring back childhood memories. As a 6 or 7 year old boy at the time, I had a crush on Mouseketeer Cheryl. She had the prettiest smile that melted this little boy's heart back then. I was saddened when just recently finding out about her untimely passing over two years ago from cancer. Wish I could have been to one of the Disney conventions when she, and other Mouseketeers, were autographing photos from when they were on the show. Cheryl, you are missed. :(
i remember corky and white shadow too, loved darlene in it,wish that it was on dvd or on you tube, watched mmc in the 70s as a child, and still adore it.
my favorite is the talent round-up with karen and cubby sitting on a horse singing saddle your pony here we go,down to the talent rodeo!do you have that one?
yes I know I was just being funny, if walt disney had a black youngster on the show at that time in history, the show would have cancelled in the southern states, the way the nat king cole variety show was in 1956
@aaronb825 NOT FUNNY - shameful & distracting from the pure nostalga of this video - you should be ashamed of yourself for , stirring up racial bias & biggotry issues , with your hate motivated comment- on this cherished video presentation- simply shameful of you ! NOT FUNNY AT ALL
@aaronb825 In the 1950s, America was still segregated, and if you put this show into historical context, the Mickey Mouse Club began the same year as the Civil Rights movement. To Disney's credit, several African-Americans were made honorary Mouseketeers on Talent Round-up Day, and later, they were included in the both the 1970s and 1990s version of the Mickey Mouse Club.
@storyjan Jay Jay is Honorary Mousketeer Number One -- The Honorable Jay Edgar Hoover. The second Jay is for Clyde Tolleson, the loyal kemosabe of "The Lone Ranger" FBI Director.
@aaronb825 Annette has a nose broad and wide -- good for smellin' trouble and prison food. Plus she is the color of Mooooooohhhhh---laaaaasssses. I cannot tell a lie, even though George Washington and Abe Lincoln did. I plagiarized the above from Jack Nicholson in the movie As Good As It Gets.
@aaronb825 That is e4xactly the reason the 50's were the most abundant , successful & productive of the history of the USA - please explain why the color of a persons skin must be an issue with you ? You must be one of those racist biased , biggot , narrowwminded people who feel it is your duty to label everyhing with "race" , you are the reason the world is all F$#ked up -
I remember sitting in front of our TV with the rabbit ear antennae wearing my mouse ears watching the Mickey Mouse Club. I was too young to remember much detail but I'm glad you're all posting your memories. What happened to Cheryl? I know Annette was very ill and that Bobby was a dancer on the Lawrence Welk show (which I also watched religiously). I thought I saw Cubby on that show once also.
Yes, Walt Disney was still alive in the 1950s, and no, this was not the first tv show to feature real people. TV sitcoms have been around since the late 1940s, although television itself is much older, dating back to the 1920s and 1930s.
These routines from the second and third seasons are so crude in comparison to the elaborate tap dance numbers they did in the first season. Just compare this to the "Roll Call no. 1" segment which is just great. Not sure what happened, but any kid off the street could have done this number or most of the others from the later seasons. In tha first year the Mouseketeers had a chance to show off their talent, and they did with flying colors.
cheryl was always my favorite mouseketeer, too! i always had the biggest crush on her. she went on to guest star in several tv sitcoms such as dick van dyke, leave it to beaver and more.
thx so much! i had to do a short presentation on the mickey mouse club for my class (we were studying the 1950's) and i used this. i got a laugh from my class when they said their names but other than that they loved it. it really demonstrates the mickey mouse club well
I've heard he was there to help "protect" the kids from the public, crew, etc. Make sure people didn't smoke or swear and such around them. Walt specifically wanted him to do that sort of thing with the kids.
Cheryl was also a date of Ricky's on Ozzie & Harriet. I loved these Mouseketeer opening numbers--of course I always kept my eye on the best one--I'll give you one guess: Yep, Annette. :)
Some of the famous "Guest Stars" that appeared on Tuesdays during the first two seasons were Morey Amsterdam, Fess Parker & Buddy Ebsen {from "Davy Crockett"}, George Givot (a famous "Greek" comedian of his day and Disney voice actor), Disneyland "balloonist" Wally Boag, Jerry Colonna {a boisterous comic who was the "March Hare" in Disney's "Alice In Wonderland"}, The Firehouse Five Plus Two {Disney animator Ward Kimball's Dixieland band}, Judy Canova, and Cliff "Jiminy Cricket" Edwards...
This is awesome! I used to watch this in reruns when I was a kid in the early 70s and I LOVED this song! LOL! Somehow it got stuck in my head and I remembered most of it. It was AWESOME to see and hear it again! Thanks!!
I remember watching these reruns as a kid in the early 70s too. I wish I could get it on DVD. Is this out on DVD? I remember Jimmie's Mouseguitar. :) I also remember them showing episodes of a "corky" in their live action mini stories. Anyone remember that?
Actually the "Honorary Mouseketeer" ears were awarded only on Fridays to the "Talent Round Up" winners, who were always kids. "Guest Star Day" guests were almost always adults.
This was the 1956-'57 opening sequence for "Guest Star Day", and the one usually seen in the later syndicated reissues of the series. This is the "short" version, minus the extended dance sequence originally presented in the middle....

What was the purpose of Roy and Jimmy? they seam to be out of place
midnightcaller200 2 years ago
Well, Jimmy wrote most of the MMC's songs, including the title theme.
As for Roy, well, I know he was an animator at Disney, but for the reason he was on the MMC, I don't know.
