  • Cliff Edwards was one of the greatest singers of the 20th century - and he played that uke like no one else. Only Louis Armstrong's version of the song measures up to this one.

  • I miss the old disney! now disney's like all BAM BAM BAM POW POW POW!!!!!

  • maybe this one allows embedding. Come on Youtube. It's "When you wish upon a star" for Christ's sake.

  • I mean Gene Simmons* Whoooooooooops.

  • Mickey, His voice is enough. Why? Cos it's simply wonderful. However, that's also nice. The original was simply breath taking and magical. Now you we all hear these horrid remixes (Not talking about Glenn Miller or Rosemary etc) - ( I'm talking about Jesse Mcartney, Selena Gomez and Gene Miller etc..) There's no heart.

  • Not the best version. I prefer the one where Cliff is accompanied by backing singers and they sing some parts on their own. I always find that they sound like a choir of angels.

  • @MickeyLynott happen to have any links to that version? I would really love to hear a version better than this....

  • He had the perfect voice for this song.....

  • AH! He's holding a ukulele in the picture! I was looking up the chords so I could learn it on my uke and then I decided to listen to the song. Happy day for Ana

  • You can see the physical resemblance between Cliff and Jiminy Cricket. The Disney animators were amazing.

  • Cliff Edwards had THE most beautiful voice!!!

  • We all know that when I get my car in three weeks, im playing this as loud as possible with the windows down. :)

  • Jiminy Cricket is so much better than Sebastian the Crab!

  • This song always soothes my bleeding heart and cleanses my soul. I feel like a child again!

  • I'd like to listen to Nino Buenocore...

  • all i hear is jiminy cricket <3

  • this guy's voice is like an angel....

  • is it weird that this song makes me cry? i have no idea why.

  • @torresxoxo no.

  • @torresxoxo

your a human with a soul.

  • @torresxoxo it´s becouse you miss the old days, and Dinsey, like me.

  • @torresxoxo cuz everything has gone to pot n ur heart knows it. N it cant believe like it used to. N that makes ur eyes leak..... lol, idk. There are actually eminem songs that make me cry. Now THATS weird! lol It's not the lyrics or anytrhing, the songs just give me chills then make me cry. Who knows. ....

    Great song!.

  • classical disney times! Miss u :(

  • Cliff Edwards' voice is unusual. His transition into falsetto is almost seamless. Whoever cast him to voice Jiminy Cricket had his or her head on straight.

  • this song is the most wonderful disney song!! and his voice here is really wonderful!!! in germany we say "wunderbar"!!

  • Very nice voice.. just not an angelical one. Because there is no such thing.

  • @gettingolder2 cliff Edwards voice may have a angelic sound to it

angelic is a description in this case

  • an angelical voice...the best song of all times in hollywood...beautiful words..magic song...wow

  • More likely a capo than a cigarette. Long live Jimminy Cricket!

  • when you wish upon a star.......

  • IT IS AMAZING THAT THEY CHOSE CLIFF"UKELELE IKE" EDWARDS FOR

JIMMINY CRICKETS VOICE ! THE PERFECT VOICE FOR THIS CHARACTER.

  • I love the old Disney

I hate all those new stuff, nothing is as good as this

  • @Helena2893 ik r the last mickey mouse and i mean for the whole family was the three musketers

  • @Helena2893 There was just as much sucky stuff back then as there is now. You just don't remember.

  • Disney is one of the best things that ever happened to the world, and i mean the real disney not any of the new stuff, all the original disney is amazing

  • male singers don't sing like this anymore :(

  • What fool would dislike this? Obviously 2 no-good hooligans.

  • the fact that this mans voice has been a staple for children and adults the last 70 years, and almost none knows his name, that he ended a nameless ex alcoholic drug addict welfare receiver and when he died none came to claim his body, none paid for his headstone or funeral, completely turned the meaning of this song from endless possibility and wonder to poetic irony and tbh sadness for me, but thats prolly a bad way to look at it

  • This was my grandpa's favorite song and I remember him crying when he heard it once. So now whenever I hear it I cry. I may be young (I'm twenty) but I appreciate these memories and lovely songs such as this, it's important to cherish the old and the young no matter how different they are. I hate when people don't like something because it's 'old'... but I dislike it equally as much when people say that young people these days don't appreciate things that people use to. Many of us do.

  • @glimmerific yes we do!!!i'm 20 too, well almost, but this kind of songs are just food to my soul!!

  • I don't even remember when was the last time i heard this song and suddenly missed my grandpa he used to play this in cassette every morning when we are young ... thanks for sharing...

  • There is no one who can sing this song this good besides him <3

  • This song won a Oscar for best

    song(1941)..lyrics and music..

  • Love this song :)

  • what a great song

  • Touching, gentle and lovely. So many nice memories- isn't that the best of what these old tunes -and a voice like Cliff Edwards- can do?

    Thanks for this.

    -Bill

  • This was my very first record and favorite song as a child. I listened to my record over and over and over, everyday for days, and no one around thought that this was abnormal behavior. I was so glad to find this on youtube.com. Thank you! My record is long gone, but not the wonderful memories. I believe!

  • @communitiesglobally It was something soothing to the soul in a sort of scary time ...the cold war. I wish our kids could appreciate the things we loved. Times are a changing!

  • Somethin' in my eyes. Must be dust.

  • The song for Disney Theme Parks

  • One of my favorite songs every. Thanks for this true gem!

  • best of the best...long live classic

  • The second bridge ( When a star is falling )has different chords than the first .

    Any body know them?

  • Kind of a normal beautiful version some 30 years earlier of Tiny Tim (Tiptoe Through The Tulips).

I can just hear Tiny Tim singing this song.

Certainly Cliff's rendition is the gold standard for any who cover this song.

Childhood memories that were a childhood song for children, but as adults we understand how critically important this childhood song is for all of our adult lives.

It's pretty rare at 57, that I don't sing this song several times a year when the going gets tough.

  • I am now 60 and I still wish.thank you Cliff.

  • Classic!

  • 1 person has no soul.

  • Bye Jiminey, we will never forget you! :,(

  • you are masterful in all of what you do. God bless..

  • My favourite version of this song, ever. <3

  • @isolatemarissa check out jesse mccartney's version .. pure soul.

  • Why is this so touching? Just straight-out romantic. . .

  • the only dislike was actually the devil himself. and only cuz he wanted to be mean (he secretly likes this song)

  • The best rendition of this beautiful song!

  • Both this guy and Frank Sinatra... legends.

  • Thank God for Cliff Edwards! Can you imagine having lived your life without ever having heard him?!

  • It's a shame, that a song so true and great could be overlooked by so many even though it still speaks to those of today. This is definitely one of the songs that will always be thee for those who don't believe it's power. RIP Cliff "Ukelele Ike" Edwards.

  • The great Cliff Edwards...even as a little kid (44 now) upon first hearing him sing, I was struck by his voice--so pure. So sad that he died alone and forgotten.

  • @racourdav He's not forgotten... You remember him right?

  • If you like this, you should watch him sing the song "Singing in the Rain" from The Hollywood Revue of 1929. All my life I had thought it was Gene Kellys song until I heard Ukulele Ike do it.

  • I love this song and im only 16, his voice is just amazing, makes u wanna cry

  • Yes this song is ultimate!

  • Thank-You Mr. Edwards!!

  • I just love this song, it just brings tears to my eyes, I love pinoccio and this song..

  • One of the top five songs ever written. Cliff Edwards," Ukele Ike" went from the top of vaudeville and radio to dying penniless. He was to be buried in a pauper's grave when the Disney Company learned about it and paid for the funeral. Last few years of his life he hung out at Disney studios looking for voice work.

No one can ever equal this performance much like no one but Judy can perform Over the Rainbow.

There are few songs I know all the words to, but this is one.

  • Listening to this song makes me believe my dreams will come true.

  • My dream could come true :)

  • AnlmmovableObject I feel the same way

  • Check him out in the scene from Hollwood Revue of 1929 where he sings the classic "Singin in the Rain". It is awesome!

  • Cliff Edwards died as a pennyless pauper in 1971. So sad.

  • I'm over 60 now, and this song is still in my heart.

  • @6silhouette5 wow..thats an amazing thing.:D

that just proves how Disney was a HUGE part of every child's life ;)

  • I keep wishing!
