Cliff Edwards was one of the greatest singers of the 20th century - and he played that uke like no one else. Only Louis Armstrong's version of the song measures up to this one.
Mickey, His voice is enough. Why? Cos it's simply wonderful. However, that's also nice. The original was simply breath taking and magical. Now you we all hear these horrid remixes (Not talking about Glenn Miller or Rosemary etc) - ( I'm talking about Jesse Mcartney, Selena Gomez and Gene Miller etc..) There's no heart.
Not the best version. I prefer the one where Cliff is accompanied by backing singers and they sing some parts on their own. I always find that they sound like a choir of angels.
AH! He's holding a ukulele in the picture! I was looking up the chords so I could learn it on my uke and then I decided to listen to the song. Happy day for Ana
@torresxoxo cuz everything has gone to pot n ur heart knows it. N it cant believe like it used to. N that makes ur eyes leak..... lol, idk. There are actually eminem songs that make me cry. Now THATS weird! lol It's not the lyrics or anytrhing, the songs just give me chills then make me cry. Who knows. ....
Cliff Edwards' voice is unusual. His transition into falsetto is almost seamless. Whoever cast him to voice Jiminy Cricket had his or her head on straight.
Disney is one of the best things that ever happened to the world, and i mean the real disney not any of the new stuff, all the original disney is amazing
the fact that this mans voice has been a staple for children and adults the last 70 years, and almost none knows his name, that he ended a nameless ex alcoholic drug addict welfare receiver and when he died none came to claim his body, none paid for his headstone or funeral, completely turned the meaning of this song from endless possibility and wonder to poetic irony and tbh sadness for me, but thats prolly a bad way to look at it
This was my grandpa's favorite song and I remember him crying when he heard it once. So now whenever I hear it I cry. I may be young (I'm twenty) but I appreciate these memories and lovely songs such as this, it's important to cherish the old and the young no matter how different they are. I hate when people don't like something because it's 'old'... but I dislike it equally as much when people say that young people these days don't appreciate things that people use to. Many of us do.
I don't even remember when was the last time i heard this song and suddenly missed my grandpa he used to play this in cassette every morning when we are young ... thanks for sharing...
This was my very first record and favorite song as a child. I listened to my record over and over and over, and everyday for days, and no one around thought that this was abnormal behavior. I was so glad to find this on youtube.com. Thank you! My record is long gone, but not the wonderful memories. I believe!!!

@EricBBrandon1 that's great! I love how songs like this one make you longing so much for christmas! It's great also that you who are 45 still has the christmas spirit!
Kind of a normal beautiful version some 30 years earlier of Tiny Tim (Tiptoe Through The Tulips).
I can just hear Tiny Tim singing this song.
Certainly Cliff's rendition is the gold standard for any who cover this song.
Childhood memories that were a childhood song for children, but as adults we understand how critically important this childhood song is for all of our adult lives.
It's pretty rare at 57, that I don't sing this song several times a year when the going gets tough.
i remember watching this when i was about 7 and i didnt understand the song then, but i loved it, and now i listen to it and look back, im 20 now, and realize this song makes so much sense to me. i realize how true it is and the truth was right before in front of me all along i just never paid attention.
It's a shame, that a song so true and great could be overlooked by so many even though it still speaks to those of today. This is definitely one of the songs that will always be thee for those who don't believe it's power. RIP Cliff "Ukelele Ike" Edwards.
The great Cliff Edwards...even as a little kid (44 now) upon first hearing him sing, I was struck by his voice--so pure. So sad that he died alone and forgotten.
If you like this, you should watch him sing the song "Singing in the Rain" from The Hollywood Revue of 1929. All my life I had thought it was Gene Kellys song until I heard Ukulele Ike do it.
One of the top five songs ever written. Cliff Edwards," Ukele Ike" went from the top of vaudeville and radio to dying penniless. He was to be buried in a pauper's grave when the Disney Company learned about it and paid for the funeral. Last few years of his life he hung out at Disney studios looking for voice work.
No one can ever equal this performance much like no one but Judy can perform Over the Rainbow.
There are few songs I know all the words to, but this is one.
This is one of my altime fav song. Brings me back to childhood and innocent times. Love his voice touches my heart. Beautful song and always will be. Magic:)
Every time I hear this it conjures up memories of a fleeting childhood and the happy innocent times long since past. It does put a lump in ones throat. Thanks for letting us hear this truly wonderful voice and talent once again, in this seldom heard longer version of a truly magic song.
