@metalmusiking if your talking about clipping the wings, it doesn't hurt the bird and the feathers grow back. theres nothing brutal about that. why would you think they've been "brutally" handicaped?
@xRamenChickenx was more of a joke question, how the hell you know it doesnt hurt the bird? i have a parrot and everytime he's got a feathersticking out and i touch it he really gets upset and shakes me off furthermore he got clipped one time and the whole time till his feather grew back he refused to leave the cage, now that he can fly he lets me take him out every time.
@metalmusiking well a feather sticking out is way different then clipping the tips of feathers. I own many birds myself, I know bird breeders and personally know a bird handler. if the feathers are not properly clipped it will cause the bird discomfort. Getting it done by a vet or professional bird handler is the best way. However every bird is different, and like your parrot, react differently to clipping. most birds react negatively to their first clipping, if that was his first?
@xRamenChickenx yeah it was i decided not to do it again cause i like him better flying anyway :) he's sometimes get crazy and starts hanging head down from various places and trying to eat absolutley everything he can reach so flying is the answer :D
@metalmusiking it's all about preference, I have parakeets and they don't do well outside their cages, but I rather have them flying in the cage then flying outside and managing to hurt themselves. I can let them out sometimes, but sadly they don't do well. so I will be giving mine away to a home that can fit their requirements environment wise,
@xRamenChickenx well i dont think you should clip an owl tho, its a smart bird you can train it to fly and come back (i think) clipped owl is like a legless dog...
@metalmusiking true, but the bigger question is. do owls make good pets? they are nocturnal hunters, with extremely sharp beaks and talons that require alot of space. they are meant to be wild animals.
can it fly or its been brutally handicaped? :)
